In reflection what I hoped Moto would do this year for the new partnership with Apple is to bring out 2-3 phones will elegant moto lines, so that means at least 1 RAZR model, which were all Moto except they had a wheel and a half or full gig shuffle built in with USB 2.0 making them the best of both worlds in one design. Now that would have been cool.

Maybe 2006...or 2007 when my next plan is up...

I also am disappointed.

Very ugly phone...
and the Razr family - well at least the SLVR looks interesting - but will most likely have the current terrible UI!

sigh
SE did announce a couple of very cool looking phones today as well... one candy bar and the other clam shell - with some amazing specs it seems...
might have to investigate these more!

Just a thought, any reason why iTunes couldn't be developed for the Sybian OS? That way it wouldn't have to phone-dependant but rather would work with any Symbian phone. Now, that would be cool.

No reason. But I doubt Apple would go with the #1 Smartphone OS, just like Apple didn't partner with the #1 cell phone manufacturer, Nokia.

All this phone business

Why oh why don't Apple produce their own phone !! ??

I have tried unsuccessfully to link my Nokia 6310i to my G4 Powerbook via Bluetooth and the results are at best pretty poor.
All this talk about the Motorola having iTunes capability is kinda fun but doesn't solve any of my requirements.
I can see that 'music to go' is a great selling point but I am a professional computer user and none of my needs will be satisfied with this unit.
My wish list would include:
Bluetooth
iSync
iCal
Address book
and email
all bundled onto my phone (a bit like having a Palm Pilot + phone but running Mac software).
I had some disappointing results whenever I tried to sync my details with the Palm OS -( duplicated and lost files ).
I want the phone to be 'bomb proof' in software handling and reasonably rugged in construction.
I don't want to have to buy a new one each year simply cos it's fashionable.

It can't be that difficult and coupled with Apples legendary flair for design, it would be another winner for the company - much as the iPod has been.
The more people we can get loyal to the Apple brand the better it is for all of us MacHeads.

. . . . and of course it would be nice if they could squeeze in iTunes and a camera (stills) that would shoot 2Mb file size too, but frankly that's more for its overall customer appeal than an attraction for me.

Take a look at the Sony Ericcson P900 - does all you ask and syncs perfectly with a Mac. Not 3G, so a bit slow for email but quite useable.

What about the Treo? Doesn't it do all of this?

No, it doesn't run iCal iSync or Adress Book and if, as I suspect, it is running Palm OS, it's syncing with the Mac is erratic.
I am after a truly transparent sync between phone and computer - no glitches / no new manuals to read / nuffink to make my life more complicated than it already is

Oh really? That's disappointing.. I'm looking into getting one to replace my PPC because now that I have a laptop its pretty much useless BUT it'd be good if I could have a ppc/palm in phone-form...

The German Macsite "macnews.de" quotes an unnamed Motorla spokesman for hinting that the Motorola E1060 may not after all be the first iTunes compatible/capable cell phone, but that such a phone will first be introduced at the Cebit and that the software will be programmed by Apple themselves.

This is getting confusing...why can't Moto spell out for us what's going on? Surely they can't fear opposition because they have a deal with Apple...

MobileTracker confirms that E1060 does not have iTunes.
http://www.mobiletracker.net/archives/2005/02/16/Motorola-E1060-itunes

A Motorola spokesperson noted to MobileTracker in an email early Wednesday morning that while iTunes was shown off with the E1060, this was a special case meant just for the demonstration. "E1060 was used to demonstate iTunes client; however, it is not our iTunes product."
In an Apple-like fashion, Motorola is keeping the first iTunes enabled phone under very close wraps. While Motorola wanted to show off the software, it appears the company wanted to keep the device secret.
CTIA Wireless 2005 has been pointed to several times as a likely announcement date for the first iTunes phone. The conference takes place this year March 14-16th in New Orleans, LA.

This is silly. I'm holding off getting a new phone because I'm assuming that a iTunes Motorola phone will also have full Mac compatibility in other ways - ie syncs with iCal etc, which the Motorola A1000 doesn't. But I don't want to wait until the end of the year...

Anybody think of using an ipod wheel to dial like the old school phones had the finger in the ring dialer? That would be bad ass!

I've been thinking of that before. It'd be all software, plus some faint blue or grey numbers and a "fingerstop" silkscreened onto the iPod wheel.

I still use two rotary dial phones and wouldn't mind having three or four. I'll use a rotary set before my cell phone in most cases, the microphones are better and it's a lot more comfortable.

Basically you'd just have to touch the number and scroll clockwise to the fingerstop, so no butt calls. Since the rotary dialing would all be in software you could add a pound and star and have full 12-tone TouchTone.

Sounds a daft idea to me. Apple has never done retro, most buyers will never have used a rotary-dial phone, and what would be the advantage over a keypad arrangement?
