I have a feeling the whole industry is going to freak out when Apple finally shows their wearable on Tuesday. Everyone has been trying to beat Apple to market during Apple's "cone of silence". The other shoe will drop and send everyone scrambling for cover. Remember, Apple's motto is "simplicity" so while it may not have all the features other's have it will feature stuff that works with the big picture in place with lots of partners.
The partners thing is always Apple's trump card that secure their success. Any other Android devices have this? Didn't think so.

Part of me hopes Apple will just not announce anything so we can continue to watch the hilarious mad scramble from the "competition". I then come back to earth and realize if Apple does not release some sort of wearable, we will be subjected to the hideous mock-ups until they do.

I know this is an Apple site, but the bias is even bigger than I imagined, lol...

I quit wearing a watch years ago. My car has clock, my computer has a clock, my phone has a clock, my stove has a clock, my TV has a clock, and every work environment has a big clock on the wall. I am never without my phone and it has notifications, so why wear a watch?

You're thinking in limited terms that only apply to your life today. It's Apple's job to change your life not just today but in the future. Or at least it's their job to sell you on that change. Before iPhone, most people thought a computer was for the desktop or laptop and there would be no reason to do anything with a phone but talk and maybe text.

This is not a watch and that is going to be the main message on Tuesday. This is a computing device with tons of sensors and connectivity to your iPhone and iCloud. It just happens to be worn on the wrist because that's where the sensors get the most useful data. This wearable will change the way we track health, notifications and probably pay for things. That is a huge change for the future and could not be done with any smartphone alone.

I agree with you 100%!! I also think people want unrealistic battery life. These aren't conventional watches,so you won't get conventional battery life. I'd be surprised if I could get 24 hours out of a smart watch. Considering all the things that this iWatch may do. I'd be very very surprised to see 24 hours. Let's hope they have some very innovative way to recharge the watch while wearing it.

I think 24 hours would be fine, but longer would be much better. However, this device is calling sub 12 hour battery life (according to all of the reviewers) all day battery life. There is no point to a watch that can stay on your wrist during the time you are likely to be awake.

So I guess guess this smart watch thing is a reality at this point eh? :p

Part of me thinks this is cool but is it that functional and is it really that much more effort then pulling my smart phone out of my pocket to do the same things with more function and a larger screen?

At $250 (for the moto) I would think about it. At $400 to $500 for an iWatch unless it cooks my meals for me I think I would pass. I'd think I would buy a tablet before that.

I'm pretty happy with my macbook and smartphone setup. Though cool, a tablet has always seemed like functionally limited laptop (except surface pro which can act as a laptop pretty much but then it's bulkier and heavier than a true tablet)

Very nice... best looking smartwatch I've see.

I'm really hoping apple sticks to the "traditional" watch look like this, and not the 'smartphone on a wrist" that Samsung and others are doing. Looking forward to Tuesday.

Looks very, very nice.
By far the best design to date. And at an attractive price.

If this was an Apple product, compatible with iOS/OS X, I guess we would praise it to the sky and rush out to get one.

God job, Motorola.

What do you people expect from Apple? I doubt they're even going to release a "smart watch". I believe it'll be more of a sports / health accessory that'll also display the time. It'll look great but getting better battery life from a real smart watch is simply impossible at the moment - Apple has to work with the same tech as everyone else. They can package it nicer, sure - but at the end of the day, it'll have the same innards. So if whatever Apple shows us next week is a smart watch, battery life won't be longer. As I doubt they'll release anything that has a battery life of only a day, it won't be a smart watch, it'll be a health accessory.

Either it's a health accessory or it's priced around $400 but not both. No one will pay more than $250 for a strictly health watch. The rule with Apple is "When in doubt, bet on higher price". That means it will be around $400 which means the health aspect will be just one feature of the wearable. What about iHome? What about iCloud? What about iPhone? What about Siri and iMessage? Why would Apple ignore their entire ecosystem to offer a simple watch with sensors?

Battery you say. OK but we all already have to charge our phones once a day. This would be one more device that we have to charge once every other day. Maybe Apple's implementation of wireless charging will make it worth it. All I know is that the hype is off the scale and Apple is to blame for some of it. If they don't deliver something closer to my expectations, everyone will be disappointed. Even you, my friend.

Two things to do. Raise the cash to buy one
Then a rigorous gym upper body/arm workout lasting six months in order to make it look proportional instead of the mini-clock-on-strap that it is now.

I hate to say it. But smart watches (whisper it) will be the white elephant of 'future tech' in less than a year. They're one miniaturisation over practicality too far. Great idea in theory. But not so in practise.

Watch (geddit?) and learn...

Hello Moto?

Cheerio Moto!:(

Still not feeling it. I'm honestly thinking that there's just too much stuff in there and technology isn't micro enough to stick it all in without it looking bulky and awkward on anyone but the burliest manly man forearms.

So annoying...

This is going to be so annoying at airports with all these Dick Tracy wannabes holding their wrist to their face and screaming at their arm to send a text that they ate a sandwich for lunch. Then promptly hogging the charging stations "all of us iPhone users use to constantly charge our phones" so they can just tell the freaking time.

I'm going to state a Kickstarter to make yellow suits that contain wireless recharging tech. Who's with me?

As an Apple fan, on design alone, I have to give moto props, this actually looks really nice. Best of the bunch so far.

Its official that anything apple reveals on the 9th will be worshiped no matter how inferior it will be.

The term "Circular Gorilla Glass Display" sounds slightly funky to me since the "display" which is not "gorilla glass" also is not "circular".

So many watch releases before Apple's 9/9 event. What if there/it isn't a watch? I'd laugh. :p

Can it make phone calls? Although boring, it'd make huge difference with or without the function. Why it's not mentioned?

well LOOK at that plastic band. it looks like a watch you can find for 2€ at Primark next to the checkout counter (minus the feature on the watch itself obvs) and the watch looks too huge for that slim band

Uhhh, that's a leather band. Metal ones are coming in a few weeks.

Please try to read the facts before spewing your fanboy nonsense.

I do have one question I would like to ask here.

So may are seeing these new watches from Samsung, LG, Motorola etc, and to a large degree rubbishing them.

Personally I feel this is a bit unfair as it's like going back 20 years and saying how junk a mobile phone looked from the perspective of today.

Likewise, in 20 years time tech will have moved on so much that I'm sure wearables will be amazing, but they are working with what they have to use today and today's ideas.

My Question:

As so many ARE expecting Apple to blow these devices away with their smartwatch.

What is the reaction going to be here, when all Apple show of is a enhanced, and nice looking Sport/Heath Nike Fuel Band type device?

Do you think this may be in reality all it will be?

Personally I hope it's amazing and a lot more, but I do wonder if there simply IS NO "SmartWatch" coming from Apple.

I hope I'm wrong.
