Motorola can't even get it's jabs right. The iPad is more like a giant iPod Touch than an iPhone.

iPod Touch does not look at good and people mistake the ipod touch for an iPhone more often than not.

Honestly I though the ad was very good and very funny. It nailed the Android tab just as good.

Both have good apps designed just for their tablet but at the end of the day the OS is still the same one running on the respective phones and not optimized as well for a tablet set up.

I liked it

Thought the ad was pretty darn clever. Should be an interesting year as far as tablets go. Android has a lot of tablet potential, but we'll see if the carriers / handset manufacturers continue to muck it up as they have on their phones.

Ad = Great Concept, Sub par execution.

Seriously anyone else notice that the render on that add looked like early 90s 3D? Maybe they made it with blender.. Anyway.. nitpickings aside.

Apple is going to wipe anything from CES off the Map and here is why.

CES = Jan 6 - 9

Macworld = Jan 26 - 29

Anything at announced CES has a two week news window before iPad 2 takes over 24/7, until iPhone 4S hits in the summer. 100% Mindshare.

....and computer graphics circa 1999

That was so cheesy. And whats with the slow bee?

Awesome

Really great ad.... Not sure what the Bee was for? I hope the tablet isn't called "the bee" or something stupid like that...

And they were way off base with the ipad... it is NOT a big iPhone. It is a big ipod touch.

This coming from an ipad owner who cant wait to scrap it and buy a real laptop again.

This ad is stupid because it doesn't say why their tablet is better and they don't even show it! Lame.

Its a teaser for CES2011. We'll hear more at CES and can scrutinise it then! :p

Moto didn't even have a narrative for a tablet until the ipad came out.
No need for Apple to worry because Moto doesn't even control the OS. And when other honeycomb tabs hits the market expect Moto to get marginalized. They'll soon fold up their tablet business because you know you'll find cheap a** honeycomb tablets in CVS/ Wallgreens, wherever for almost nothing!

It has been explain before but the bee is there because Android 3.0 name is Honeycomb. Hence the Bee.

That got me thinking, new smartphones are actually mini tablets with phone features.

As well...as what? iOS has been optimized for the iPad. Android 2.x has not been optimized for tablets.

Why do you want to scrap your iPad, the current model works pretty good. I do plan to get the newest version when it comes out. I plan to give my current one to the wife.

Hey I'm with you boyo -- handheld + lappy with no needs in between. But the MASSIVE customer satisfaction rate for the iPad seems to indicate that we're in the minority.

Which makes me wonder who the Moto audience is -- the many people who are unsatisfied with their Android slate PLUS the few people who are unsatisfied with their iOS slate? That's barely a million sold.

not really. It still have the same limited interface. My understanding is they did some changes for Honeycomb to change the interface to work better with tablets.
End of the day iPad is pretty much a gaint iPod touch.

Screw you with the Blender smack. Have you used Blender Trunk? Add the Bullet Library and OpenCL with all that is in 2.6 and you'll rethink that myopic comment.

So what will stop this from essentially being a big Android phone? I mean, since the iPad is running a version of iOS optimized for a tablet wouldn't that make this new Motorola tablet the same thing? I'd also like to point out that it has since been stated by Steve Jobs that the idea of the iPad came before the iPhone. January called and wants its terrible jokes back.

Just another supposed iPad killer that no one will care about. Move along.

tablets really are oversized phones, and I'm sure Motorola's tablet will be no different.

To be picky...
Word is the iPad is what Jobs had in mind in the first place, but realized the only way to get there was taking consumers thru the iPod -> iPod Touch -> iPhone -> iPad pathway. People could deal with a radical paradigm shift if it came in a small cheap cute package; starting with a big pricy* way-different tablet would have gone nowhere. Ergo, the phones are proto-tablets, not so much the tablets being oversized phones.

(* - dropping right into large-format would not have had the advantage of developing the efficient manufacturing first, and thus been way too expensive at the outset.)

If you've ever had the misfortune to have had a Motorola phone, you'll understand why they're trying to distance their iPad-metoo from their phones.

Let's wait and see what it's like, by Motorola's track record it'll be another ONIS (really big expectations, but when you finally try to use it, "Oh No, It's ******"). They'll completely miss the point of why users buy such a device - almost the same as GoogleTV missed the point.

Count me as another one who doesn't understand this ad.

The iPad is a big iPhone? Well, apparently that's exactly what so many iPad owners like about it.

So what are they saying here? "Hey, here's a thing you like. Guess what...we'll have a thing soon too!"

I know it's just a teaser, but shouldn't they somehow be getting me excited about their product or, converserly, making me think the iPad has a problem they can solve?

This 'toon does neither.

Since I understand tablet development preceded phone development at Apple (not talking the Newton), it is perhaps more correct to say Apple is selling an OS optimized for a tablet on their phone. Which is why it has taken so long for any real iPad competitors to emerge. Not only will they be competing with iPad 2, but also with iOS 5 (which no one knows anything about).

ummm...is this a joke? This looks as if it's a entry level 3D Animators portfolio piece! This does NOT look like a flagship teaser for a major corporation. Sorry, but I think this is a hoax...if it's not....I'd be embarassed to be a part of Motorola who allowed this clip out of the box.
