Pretty pathetic, but no surprise. Second rate OS and phones, have at it.
lol@second rate OS? it's more for people who want to tailor exactly how they like it rather than someone else deciding what's best for masses.
there are facts, and then there are uninformed opinions. i'm afraid yours fall in the latter category.

Honestly, I can't tell whether this is irony or agreement.

The point remains... In 1976 dollars, Apple's market cap is around $250B. That's still impressive growth, but the rest of the trillion dollars is inflation.
What is the point exactly? What is your benchmark? Would you be impressed by $10T?

Everything is relative. No one else has been able to reach a $1T valuation today despite your pointless inflation argument. If it's no big deal, why aren't there more companies with that valuation?

BTW, Apple is the first company to actually have the earnings that validate a $1T valuation. With Microsoft's multiple, it'd be a $2T+ valuation (which Apple is probably worth today given the earnings and growth we're seeing).

What was Apple's multiple in 1976? The earnings growth is what I care about.

Both are rip offs the original, that was the intent of my post. Those are facts as well. ROM's, widgets, launchers, and skins don't make a platform better. Things like performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps, and support do. iOS is the best overall platform when it comes to those things. Tinkering and customizing loses its luster eventually, you grow out of it.

It’s the same design. You can twist my words but we all know it’s true.

You, yourself pointed out differences, I don't need to twist your words.
If one has a home button and one doesn't, they are not the same. Saying they are is illogical.

Of course it is possible. It is also possible TC could take Apple to 2T.

Anything can happen. As long as I’ve been a member of MR, “Apple is doomed” has been a popular meme.

I think we need to separate the company from their products when talking doom and gloom. Apple as a company is making boatloads of money that apparently sails to Ireland. They are not in financial trouble. That's one perspective.

Another perspective is, as a customer I am not satisfied. In my opinion, in recent years they have released a lot of buggy software, hardware that seems to have more issues than their hardware from years past, never ending incremental updates and refreshes of existing products, and a failure to update other products.

I am only speaking for me. As a customer I prefer:

1. A modest desktop so I use the Mini (Which has not been updated in four years). I like the idea of different monitor options as I use dual monitors and like the ability to change, so an iMac is not an option for me.

2. I don't need a MacBook Pro so I use a MacBook Air (which has been flawless, no issues). Again the Air has not been updated in some time. The Pro is expensive and has had issues (Enough issues to make me nervous about dropping 3K plus).

So for me (And only me) what Apple is offering does not seem to fit my current needs and there is no remedy in sight. I have been waiting for a new mini for four years. My optimism is turning to doom and gloom.

I am essentially getting pushed out of the Apple market because I do not need a $3,000 laptop or a $4,000 desktop.

I think Samsung have been gradually reducing the bezels on their phones over the years and now we have the infinity design. I think the infinity display is different enough to what came before it.

The iPhone stayed more or less the same on the front until the iPhone X. The iPhone X’s design change is more dramatic but that’s only because it was the same on the front for 10 years!!

I don’t think Samsung deserve any less credit because their change doesn’t seem as dramatic. It isn’t as dramatic because they have been shrinking the bezels down every year.

As for why the infinity display is rumoured to be going away with the S10, it’s because Samsung are pushing forward again and striving to get to bezeless.

No factual basis? So this isn't a blatant copy? Got it. Pretty laughable to say the iPhone was evolutionary also. The industry hasn't been the same since and there is no other phone that competes with the iPhone. Pretty solid for what many like you consider a product that was just bound to happen. Apple got lucky I guess. I have no problem with competition, but they should at least try to establish their own design language. Samsung and I am sure some others have done just that.

There is nothing factual about your statement regarding the hardware and software being second rate. You made no mention in your original post about a “blatant ripoff”. My comments regarding that quote were related to the article as a whole.

Have you owned anything other than an iOS device? If so, was it a proper Android device or was it some third tier, no name brand sold to Boost Mobile customers? Android is solid if implemented correctly, period. Motorola and Google do this well. In Google’s case, the hardware is designed specifically for the software, not unlike Apple. Motorola’s hardware and software integration, like Google’s is typically top notch.

Anything else is simply fanboy nonsense and has no basis in reality.

This Motorola rips off the iPhone X and Android was originally a rip off of iOS. Android was completely different prior to iOS being unveiled. No I would never own an Android phone, I value different things that it doesn’t offer. I have used plenty of Androids though, just to give it a look. Android has come a long way, but it’s still essentially a knock off OS, with a lot of the same issues it has had since the beginning (performance, security, privacy, developer support, fragmentation, no tablet apps) It’s not surprising that Google is considering scrapping it and creating a new OS that is more like iOS.

This is the known issues with the pixel 2. So much for googles quality.
Quotes from Wikipedia

The Pixel 2 XL also suffers from a "black smear" problem, which occurs when a group of black pixels transition to colored ones, and tend to linger for a while, before changing to their expected state

The Pixel 2 XL has an issue where the screen may flash randomly. It occurs when the phone is locked or unlocked.[44] The issue was fixed in the June system software update, but returned back with the July update

Hundreds of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners have been complaining of high-pitched and clicking sounds coming from the phone.

Some of the USB-C to 3.5mm adapters for the headphones do not work. In some cases, rebooting the phone can fix the issue temporarily

Multiple users reported that the microphone can randomly stop working. A possible solution is to blow into the microphone

The Pixel 2 XL comes with a charger capable of fast charging at 18W, but the phone is not able to charge at more than 10.5W, taking two and a half hours for a full charge.[57] Below 20 °C (68 °F) the charging speed is just a mere 3-4W, but the phone will still display "Charging rapidly", which is misleading

The phone has lag issues and can get extremely laggy without a known cause. The only known fix is to replace the device. Google is aware of the issue and looking for a fix.

The camera has an issue where it sometimes shows "fatal camera error". Google is aware of the issue and working on a fix

These are just some issues.

You can keep the customization. I’ll keep my iPhone that will work guaranteed.

Agreed, but the double standard you get on macrumours is ridonkulous.
The effort to denigrate is amazing.

But on topic, the Motorola is a weak copy.

You’ve never owned a flagship Android device - your have no valid opinion based on anything real other than hearsay.

Of course they have and everybody notices this. Samsung has been getting positive reviews for their designs for years.
You have to be ill-intentioned to deny it(and some users here do seem to be like that).
The Galaxy S6 was Samsung's big design change and with each iteration they improved and evolved the design.
The S7 edge was an improvement in design vs the S6 edge(smaller bezels, bigger screen, curved back) while the S8 was an evolution from that design and the S9 again is a slight improvement over the S8.

Apple is probably the only company that kept the same identical design of the front of their phones for 4 years. And I do mean the exact same design(same screen size, same bezels size same button size, shape and placement).

No, the original poster is talking about when having won WWII America and Russia (an ally) went about offering deals to German and Nazi scientists in return for their work both past and future. These people and their families where relocated in which ever other county they went to thus escaping the Nuremberg Trials. Just Google "Operation Paperclip" for whatever you have misunderstood.

I knew exactly what he meant. I just chose to misinterpret.

But on topic, the Motorola is a weak copy.

It think Moto is just trying to troll apple fans and mainstream American media.
They did get a lot of attention for this phone, way more attention than they got for any of the phones they launched this year. Also I think they are seeing the success in sales phones like the OP6 and Mi8 have vs the models they replaced and are probably trying to prepare themselves to get a piece of that success.

Anyway rumors say that OP6T will be available at T-Mobile for 550$(o something like that).
It will be interesting to see how will a phone like that perform in the US. In Europe I know that OP6 is an option for everybody that wants to buy a fast phone that it's worth it's price.

My point is that it keeps coming up as a point of celebration, as if Apple has achieved a milestone. In actuality, we should be mourning the fact that what's really happened is that our currency has been devalued by a factor of four in Apple's lifetime. That's hardly something that can just be hand-waved as irrelevant.

But what has that got to do with this? That’s bigger than a breadbasket.

You should try to understand the relation of currency valuation and market returns so you don’t have this misconception that currency devaluation matters.

US citizens are living better today than at any point in history and the US dollar will continue to dominate for the foreseeable future. If your point mattered, we’d have many companies passing a $1T valuation instead of only Apple.

My guess is you’ve seen a high school level article on currency valuation once and remembered the quote about the dollar losing most of its value, but failed to understand what it really means and its relevance.

that's a highly subjective opinion you're trying to pass off as objective there.

Well, some stuff yes. The Motorola in question is obviously a rip off the X and Android as a whole was just a copy of iOS once it was revealed. Those are pretty clear cut. In regards to ROM's, widgets, launchers, and skins - I don't personally see any value, but I can see how some people could value such things. With performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps, and support - I think many could easily make an argument that Apple is better in all of these areas, but for sake of argument, we'll call them opinion. Just like everything else in the forum.
