you guys updates your PRL on your phones? it will help tremendously with speeds. at least it did for my roomate. went from 300 kbps to 800 kbps

Yes.

In fact the only way I've made my phone (nexus s) usable currently is by forcing a Verizon PRL and keeping the phone in roam mode.

There are supposed to be network updates, or new towers, or the tower is down, or a ticket is open, or whatever other none sense they want to spew out of their mouths at the time. I wish I could get 300k. 300k would be usable. I get around 2k using Sprint's "service".

Im hitting about 5Mbit down and 4up. Fine with that.

I am not quite sure where your area is, but in NY, data speeds are horrible. Just ran a speed test in Midtown NYC, and down is 112kbps, up is 160kbps. I will be in a Republic Airport for a seminar (Farmingdale, Long Island) tonight, but I am sure I won't see anywhere close to those speeds. That's more of a WiMAX territory.

I wish I had speeds like you are describing. Because what I get right now is more or less unusable.

Yeah, I believe EV-DO Rev A has a max theoretical BURST data transfer of 3.1 Mbps down. Sustained will be less than that. I don't believe Sprint (or Verizon) use Rev B, though the iPhone 5 is capable of using it.

Since it was the only way to get service, and I've also read that I could be (mercifully) terminated, I've been doing it since Thursday of last week.

No letters yet but I do remain hopeful.

Very soon Long Island will see speeds like this on Sprint. Enjoy ;)

I'm a glass half full kinda guy. The first sites will be coming up in December ;)

I hear you.
But I rather not sit there and wait with hopes and dreams for the future while in the meantime Im paying this company every month for subpar service.
There are options out there where you dont have to wait and hope for your service to improve in the future;)

No need to wait around for speeds like that. I have a Verizon LTE iPad and the speed is amazing. In fact when I moved, before I had FiOS installed, I tethered my desktop to my iPad and didn't skip a beat. If I had to try to do that on to a Sprint service it would have been an absolute nightmare. The Verizon service for this area (I travel between Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Nassau and like to travel out east to Montauk for photography and to use my telescope) the Verizon service has been remarkably consistent. Actually it saved my butt a few times while out and about when I needed directions and to communicate with people (using Google voice).

All that for $20/month. I wouldn't know what their customer service is like because I never had to call them.

I'm glad the OP likes Sprint, but my level of disgust for them is so far above and beyond normal I can't endorse anyone signing up for their service. LTE or not, other providers already have it and have shown they increase their network capacity to maintain speed and usability. Sprint has millions of people using the same old infrastructure in most markets, while still charging their regular rates. Sure, they are upgrading, but they are late and in the meantime people are just pissing away money on their service.

Understood. I've been paying $10 extra/month for "Premium Data". Heh. That being said, I get unlimited data, texts and mobile to mobile on any network, plus 450 to landlines for $79/month with a corporate discount. For me it's worth the wait. My area is pretty much on the same schedule as Long Island. I will be camping out under the tower around the corner until it gets upgraded :p

hahah i know right. you mean you will terminate my contract ETF free? omg

You're hitting 5mb down and 4up with Sprints 3G?
Yeah ok, and Im Obama:rolleyes:

I now have you tagged as an AT&T fanboy / unequivocal Sprint hater. Enjoy.

I switched to Sprint after 6 years with AT&T also. Happy so far. There's some areas where I notice slower speeds, but AT&T was usually super slow, when it worked at all. And god forbid I try using data on AT&T if I was in a crowd of more than 20 people. Absolutely useless.

Sprint in Maryland ain't bad either...people hate so much but i don't care!

Like I said in my post above it has no damage to my normal routine with AT&T. Not a big big data user as my office has wifi everywhere and the places i go to normally have it also. But even 3G with Sprint is **** good compared to AT&T in my area. Im hitting about 5Mbit down and 4up. Fine with that.

5mb down is really fast compared to what I've seen from other Sprint users, who usually get terrible speeds. You're lucky.
