Just to be clear, you don't need 80 Mb/s to download an email. If you have good coverage, even 0.5 Mb/s will get the email relatively quickly.

If you're more of the multimedia person who streams videos and what not... then yeah, stay far from Sprint 3G.

It depends on the OPs usage but if he's getting better service, who cares?
It's become a piss contest now, to see who has the fastest LTE speeds :) I personally think that everything over 10 Mb/s is good.

My Verizon 3G speeds are just about the same. But in real world usage, it's just as good as my 6 Mb/s AT&T HSPA+
Verizon / AT&T doesn't automatically mean better (though in most cases, I guess it does hahaha)

My post has become a pissing contest as you said regarding speeds. All I was saying is that Sprints data speeds are FOR ME really no different then AT&T's. The real numbers favor AT&T of course but i honestly could wait an aditional second it takes Sprint to do the same thing lol. But regardless it really is FOR ME better then AT&T. I am happy with them thus far and Im glad everyone is also happy with AT&T, Verizon & Sprint with their iPhones. As another post said earlier in the thread it comes down to which carrier is best FOR YOU in the places you normally are. Sprint is that carrier for me. Thanks all for the feed back! I did run a test lastnight and i hit 2mbit down and 0.89 up. Web pages still loaded mighty fast though. I guess my ealier post speeds were way off?

No you dont need 80 Mbps to download email but when using Sprint I was getting about .5 down / .1 up and doing something as simple as getting email would require watching that twirly thing for at least 5 minutes before it went from updating, updating (5 mins pass) disconnected and email never downloaded. Even iMessages fail to deliver thats just text.

Whereas on a faster service it immediately goes from updating to updated (time stamp).
Sprint slow speeds are unusable.

Exactly.
People throw out numbers like that thinking we're all clueless about Springs CDMA 3G limitations and actual speeds.
Glad that you're happy with them but tone down the bs meter a little:D

Think he meant .5 down and .4 up
I'm a sprint user myself I know how we could ONLY dream of having such speeds on our slow ass network

im on sprint, speeds are slow, but i have very few dropped calls, much less than i had when i was on at&t, and hey , its a PHONE after all.
also, 6-12 monthes from now, when they flip the switch on LTE, data will rock, and at&t and verizon networks data will be clogged with all the sprint haters using them :)

Hello,
I have been with Sprint since 1999. Their "Network Vision" program is bringing better 3G speeds now and LTE is being rolled out.

At least living in coastal Florida, my 3G speeds have been pretty good. No problems streaming Netflix, no issues when going on Internet, etc.

I would guess with Florida being such a tourist destination that Sprint would be more apt to have the best possible service. Regardless, it has been just fine and LTE will be here within months.
Cheers,
JJ

That's pretty poor LTE speeds for a network with barely any traffic on it.

Almost all of the 9/21 speed tests were done outside of the Boylston Street Apple Store here in Boston on iPhone 5 launch day, so it was high traffic. 68 mbps down test near there also.

Ok LTE is coming soon or it will be there in a few months. Can a Sprint customer pay for data when the speed arrives?
With speeds like this whats the point for paying for unlimited data. It would take a day to consume the same amount a functional LTE sped device could do in half an hour.

I'm glad your happy! :)

Though I hope those comparisons are between AT&T 3G and Sprint 3G vers comparing ATT 3G to Sprint LTE. Even then I'd personally prefer AT&T 3G over most other carries due to the use of GSM over CDMA. I would like to see users comparison though of the different carries on LTE in the areas where is is available.

Sprint WILL NOT hit the peak speeds that VZW and ATT will hit, simply because their channel widths are 10mhz as opposed to 20mhz for VZW and ATT(in some markets). But this does not matter, as Sprint only has roughly half the subscriber base.
You can post pictures of those super high speeds, but those speedtests are costing you. If I have a consistent 7-10 Mbps then that is all I (or anyone else) should really need out of a mobile device.
One might complain that Sprint is still charging full price during their network upgrade, but the same was the case with ATT when they were having iPhone growing pains, and ATT had much more cash on hand than Sprint currently does. They have no choice but to keep trucking along (and charging us full price) while they fund their network build out, its business 101

The bottom line is that no matter which carrier you choose, it must be the one that offers you the best service in your particular area. I stay with AT&T because I've used them forever and my location has never had any problems and now has LTE.

I would never encourage someone to stay in a bad situation; circumstances change and users must make the best decisions for their service. I'm glad to hear that you've worked out something good for yourself. :)

I couldn't agree more. I had AT&T for almost ten years. It worked well for me when I lived in Sacramento. Then I moved to San Francisco and it was terrible. With the purchase of my new iPhone 5 I switched to Verizon and the coverage has been so much better!

I just wish Verizon had the ability to use voice and data at the same time. i use it a lot. If they did, I'd dump AT&T in a heartbeat. With AT&T, I have REALLY marginal coverage of ANY kind in a lot of the places I travel.

That was something I had to consider when I made the change. I very seldom would have the need to use data while on a voice call, so I decided it was important to have good phone coverage over the flexibility of voice and data at the same time.
