I really wish we could label these posts with a fact check warning. You make some really bold and derogatory allegations about MR and the mod staff with statements like that but the trick is its all your opinion stated as fact.

I'm still waiting for you to back up your allegation that MR is "overrun", all I asked you for was a reference to a sinlge racist post in any article on the front page. As indicated you can't link it but I think you can list the article and page number, thats not too specific.

My guess is you cannot find one... well go to the second page then.... I'll wait.... oh, still can't find one, try the third page, I'll wait.................

Stop saying MR is "overrun" with racist talk, it very clearly isn't.
Again, you are asking people to discuss individual moderation decisions, which is against the rules. Why are you are trying to goad people into breaking the rules? Seems a bit of an odd argument method to me.

I "enjoyed" this one immensely. The most telling is that it's locked by now:D

I did nothing of the sort, I did NOT ask you to discuss individual moderation decisions! I very specifically asked you to give me the name of a thread and a comment page that contains a racist post. That is not specific to any member or staff moderation choice.

The odd argument here is your constant claims of MR being "overrun" with racist talk when it very clearly isn't. You are perpetuating a hoax and spreading misinformation as fact.

I will not engage in this game with you, because of your past statements:

Prior to blocking PRSI I saw this a bunch of times, a small group of very vocal SJW types take exception to something someone posts and when they can't get the post moderated or the other member canceled/suspended they start calling the other members or mods nazis, fascists, racists, etc. and then find themselves banned. Nothing makes me smile more than the PC police themselves getting banned.

I am not concerned about what a person who uses the derogatory terms SJW and PC police thinks when it comes to what is or isn’t considered racist or discriminatory.

I don’t believe such perjoratives contribute to a discussion among reasonable people.

I AM concerned about what the mods think about what is or isn’t racist, because that affects the entire community. But, I think that could/should be its own thread.

So, yeah, the question you posed is off-topic. Feel free to weigh in on the issue in the thread title instead.

Edit: I searched my own posts for the word “overrun” and couldn’t find it. Try quoting people accurately; thanks.

I guess when you don't have any ideas to engage with walking away is the best option.

You are 100% correct, that response was directed at @ericgtr12 my apologies, but I'm pretty sure that if I choose to spend the time I can also search your posts for a very similar comment... we'll see.

Correction, when I don’t want to jump down @icanhazmac’s off-topic rabbit hole of supplying them with links to racist comments so they can explain why such posts aren’t actually racist according to @icanhazmac's personal views... and also risk myself violating forum rules on discussing specific moderation decisions.

I’m not walking away from my own thread. I’m simply refusing to follow you, head-first, down an off-topic mine shaft, especially when I already know what I’m going to find at the bottom.

While I did incorrectly attribute the "overrun" comment to you, you chose to interject yourself in my discourse with @ericgtr12 , I asked him to supply references to racist comments, not you.

Also, I was not looking to make any judgements on what posts are racist or not, I was just asking @ericgtr12 if he could point to any in the first page or three of articles that might back up his claim that MR is "overrun". I felt this was a valid question given the gravity of his claims.

You know, I’m actually not that upset at the mods for putting them in that area. I’m upset that this community cannot reasonably discuss a Mac user conference because the story has a tangential relation to the COVID crisis.. or a Nobel Prize Winner shot by the Taliban. Do we really have Taliban supporters on these forums? Of course not... we have trolls.

The mods don’t want to play whack-a-mole with the trolls, I get it... but it does sometimes feel like the trolls are running the asylum.

A question for the future: what happens when PRSI is shut down? The staff has indicated that will be happening at some point, with no new sign-ups allowed. At such a point, I assume it will become necessary to actually crack down on the trolls since there will be no “cesspool” to dump the threads into.

My suggestion: why not just start cracking down on trolls now?

You are 100% correct and I reflected that in my post. As a member who thinks MR is generally run and moderated well I was merely expressing an opinion response to the OP who posts here regularly to complain about moderation and suggesting that the issue here is with him and not with the site/mods.

Question: how many times do you complain about the same thing and get no results before you just move on? Apparently some peoples appetite for this is far greater than mine. If I truly felt that any site/forum was a haven for ideas and thoughts that ran counter to my core beliefs I would just leave. The intarwebz are a big place, I'm sure places exist that would not offend the OP so much.
I find it strange that as a relatively new member with relatively few posts, approximately 15% of your posts are in the feedback section, playing the role you are playing right now.

How many times are you going to complain about the people giving feedback with no results? Why won't you "just move on" and focus on enjoying the site?

So here is an interesting observation, prior to the article about Malala's Partnership with Apple TV+ I had never heard of her and honestly if it were not for the obvious post I think you are refering to, I would probably have just moved on as I don't have Apple TV+ and I didn't recognize the personality.

While I probably agree with you about the post in question and its intentions I learned a bit about this person only becuase of the thrashing that post is receiving. Call it a silver lining? I still do not know enough about her to know if there is any way the post in question could somehow be justified as a valid personal opinion of who she is and what she does but if you are going to post a comment like that you should probably back it up with some context.

That already happened.

Yes, that’s what I was referring to. It was my impression that this was step 1, with the eventual end-state being PRSI goes away entirely.

Not all that strange. The feedback section simply resulted in more back and forth conversation than the other sections.

It's worth noting that no action has been taken on the post (even after many hours now), not to mention that the post itself was created by a MacRumors donor.

I'll also point out that the attacks on me in this thread alone have gone untouched, all good because I won't report any of that. However, I'm pointing it out because many of us here have either been banned or gotten infractions for far less.

If those same posts targeted those standing up for staff I can guarantee they would've been reported and acted on by now.

Attacks?!?! I have not attacked you in any way, shape or form. I have responded to your posts and attempted to engage you in conversation, nothing more. If you consider my comments and questions attacks then you certainly have an odd interpretation of the word.

Please stop being so overly dramatic! Race in general is obviously a social issue in the US and arguably in the whole world. MR placing any thread that discusses racial issues in the PRSI area should be expected.
Generalised discussions about race can easily be called social and political subjects, and such discussions could easily require more moderation; but when they become such subjects simply because some people of a certain skin color get upset and start yelling about race whenever they see an article with a person with a different skin color… then it's not a race issue, then it's a racist issue. And the way MR chooses to handle that is a question of whether their values guide them to suppress or support the racists.

That's an excellent example of what's going on here; rather than dealing with racists going off they actively mask the problem with racism as the much easier to ignore category of it just being heated talks about "politics", or straight up don't let the subject be discussed at all.

If you look at what is allowed the rules/admins practically allow people to mid pandemic spread straight up lies about safety precautions, and general racism is often allowed (or the thread just sent into a different category); but just once call out the person behind such things, and it's the one calling them out that gets a timeout (or kicked out). And that's when it becomes actively supporting racism; when the rules are actively used to protect the racist and conspiracy nuts, and actively used to punish those that use their voice against hate and ignorance.

And even then, a lot of the topics don't have their comments disabled. Naturally, the comments section always ends up turning into a disaster somehow. Oh, MacRumors... :p
It seems like this is a recurring discussion point on this site for the last half year in particular and I don't expect it to change any time soon.

It's a shame that things that should be positive are highjacked because so many can only view the world through their politically charged lens. It's a world problem now. Not to say MR doesn't have a role to play in managing this on their own site, but it's not just this site.
