Eventually- and I have no idea how long that is - it will be possible to fold/unfold a screen. It is already technically possible to roll and unroll a large tv screen, and at least one company says theirs will soon be available.- LG ROLL Up SCREEN. So it's not impossible just technically difficult right now.

The cost is going to be high for a foldable phone, and it probably produces a very big phone or an average to small Pad computer, depending on if it is folded (phone) or unfolded (iPad). Even if the screen is durable, I don't know that they will sell a lot. They are very expensive, and likely to remain so, and every 2 or 3 years processor or graphic power improvements make the fold-a-phone less powerful compared to even middle of the road newer non folding products. There may be a market for a $2000.00 plus phone, but that market is smaller than the current $1100 to $1400 phones that the top phone makers sell now. And they haven't done that well. Now imagine trying to sell an upgraded version every year. Phones in general have gotten too expensive for a lot of people, and this will shrink the premium phone market even more.

Unless some breakthrough brings costs way down.
I can’t think of anything made up until now that can be folded and unfolded without some sort of blemish or minor defect after a while. Paper, cloth, plastic, rubber all show a crease line or start to show fatigue eventually. It’s usually not an issue but I think it’s unrealistic for a Retina display not show some dimes of use after a few folds.

But you would expect premium quality for a $2000 phone. This story can’t possibly be correct. Can it?!?
That's why the phone is $1,980. Your expectations are much too high :)

It's a beta product. What do you expect?
I expect a beta product to last more than two days. Failure after a few months would be unfortunate but forgivable. Failure after two days means something is seriously wrong with their product development.

Laptop screens work reasonably well. My old MacBook is eight years now in.mostly daily use, and the screen works fine. And I know it's not the same thing. Books are not opened as often, and they fail eventually.

To that poster: "Too expensive": Yes, valid criticism. "Ugly": Yes, valid criticism. "Not perfect": No, not valid criticism. However "Broken after two days", that's _damning_.

Android strokers comment on this article with a false righteous attitude towards freedom and an advancement of technology. Technology is only an advancement if it is ready. This product is not even fit for the R&D department at Apple. Apple R&D probably even have a more functional device to play with!

The leading mobile device manufactures of your Android operating system are being investigated for backdoor links with the Chinese government -and- your devices are more prone to hackers and malware.

But hey, at least you got the leading technology....soon.....maybe. We'll take your money whilst we work on it!
