Like you said, your not going to be racing it so why get the V8 and worse gas mileage?

I think the mustang looks Much better and I know the 5.0 v8 will blow the socks of camaros v6

and read any car and driver magazine the mustang routinely outperforms the camaro. I know you say you want it for looks but i personally think the new camaro look sucks. I love the new mustangs look...

You should test drive them both since you may not like the feeling of the Camaro as many reviewers have stated. Although it looks nice, you may not enjoy driving it as much as a Mustang. It's personal preference so just test them both out.

Reviewers like the feel of the Camaro. They state how planted and stable it feels. But, the Mustang with the Track Pack is able to out handle the Camaro. Without the Track Pack, the Camaro has the advantage.

I've had pleasure of driving the Mustang,,, LOTS of power, awesome car. But, I would NOT enjoy it as an everyday vehicle - too "bulky" feeling, and some of the controls are insanely place / operated, IMHO. I've not drove the Camaro, but I do like its predecessors, and GM overall more than Ford. Overall though, I'd recommend a Celica or Supra… ;)

I drove a friends Challenger RT Hemi and it was dangerous scary fast. I would not want to own one and would not consider it a driver's car. I didn't have a feel of where the car was on the road.

The Camaro looks great, but it's big and the visibility is awful. It's not a good everyday driver, in my opinion of course.

The Mustang is the best of the 3 and I would drive the V6 as it's got plenty of power and decent mileage. It's also not enormous with a 188" length. I would prefer an Infiniti G37 over all of these, but the price is much higher.

You sure that Challenger RT Hemi was stock? The performance times between the Challenger RT and G37 isn't much, 0-60 of 5.1 seconds for the RT with a 1/4 mile in 13.6 seconds at 106 MPH and the G37 0-60 of 5.4 seconds and quarter mile in 14.0 seconds at 102 MPH.

They probably meant "dangerous scary fast" in terms of it being like piloting a big ol' school bus at those speeds. I believe the Dodge has about 600 pounds on top of a G37. :D

Personally I'd choose the Mustang over the Camaro. I love my 09 V6. Its quite fast and looks great. Don't see much point in the V8 it's not like you can make use of it on US streets. The V6 has plenty of power. The new models V6 is even faster with better mileage.

Mustang
- better looks
- better gas mileage
- not from a government owned company

I'd agree with others that the Challenger is the best looking of all. If you're going to skip the Mustang look at the Challenger instead. I think Chrysler is owned by FIAT now.

Not this BS again.....

The US government only has a 20-30% stake in GM now. Without them there would be no GM, no Chrysler, and very possibly no Ford.....

I remember a Road & Track test of the first series of AC Cobra 427's.

Many moneyed individuals wanted to own one, but R&T's opinion was that only a handful of drivers in the States had the skill to avoid killing themselves. :p

The power-to-weight ratio was beyond insane.

Have any of you sat in a camaro? I feel like I'm trapped in a box and can't see anything. I agree that they look good, but the engine doesn't produce the power it should. Also, the challenger is so freakin heavy. My dads charger with an intake and exhaust walks all over a hemi challenger.

If you want pure enjoyment, get the mustang. Btw check out how the new 5.0 does compared to an M3 in straight line runs. The thing is very powerful.

If you want practical (4 door) then seriously consider the charger. They have some nuts.

Umm what? The engine doesn't produce the power that it should? What does that mean? The V6 and SS( with the LS3) both have more power than the Mustang( excluding the Boss Mustang with its ~450 HP 5.0).

Anyway, yes I have sat in a Camaro and hell pushed the SS a bit when driving it at GM's main street in motion event where they let you floor it and throw it into the corners hard. It's very stable and planted and the L99 6.2 V8 is very powerful and moves the 3800 lb. Camaro nicely( though made the mistake to drive it after a Corvette Grand Sport which spoiled me a bit haha).

I say Camaro (I'm biased as I have a 2011 Synergy Green Camaro). If not the Camaro, go for a Challenger, and I'm not even that big of a fan of them. Everyone and their grandma has a Mustang...

6.2L V8 is supposed to put down more power than a 5.0. The mustang 5.0 has 412hp the camaro has 426hp. That's why I say that the 6.2 doesn't put down the power it should. BTW, that boss has a 5.0 as well.

The 5.0 is a DOHC engine and the LS3 is an OHV engine. DOHC's are able to produce more power with a smaller displacement and OHV's have fewer moving parts and are physically smaller( better packaging). Any Small Block V8 can fit in any of GM's platforms that can fit a V8. The LS3, LS7, etc. They are all the same size physically despite the different displacements. You can't say that for DOHC engines. Mercedes 6.2 V8 is bigger than the LS3 physically.

Both engine architectures have their advantages and disadvantages. I personally prefer GM's Small Block V8 over Ford's V8's. Also, GM's current Gen IV Small Block dates back to 2004. The Gen V Small Blocks will be coming next year.

And I know the Boss uses the 5.0 hence why I said 5.0 next to the Boss's ~450 HP figure.

Love my Camaro SS! With the ground effects IMO its one of the nicest looking cars out there.

That being said, I'm looking to try/buy something different this Spring. Won't be a Mustang for sure, to me they're really plain and empty looking inside.

Neither the Camaro or Mustang are great handling vehicles ... they're straight line muscle cars, not designed for curves, bends at higher speeds. That's why I'm looking for a change this year.

Not sure what I'll buy, prefer to buy North American, but if I stray from that I'll consider Porsche.

Here both are pretty pointless when the average street you would be driving on looks like this:D

This one the New Street first laid out in 1394. :D
