There is by far no competition for the iPhone, at the moment.

However there is without doubt SmartPhone malaise. People are really over $800 slabs..holding on for ever longer to previous one. The mobile arena is ripe for disruption. People like new. Iphone is most at risk to be disrupted. Only 12% choose Iphone almost single digit.

I'm with radius and I'm not in a delusional world.
They try, they make a big effort but they are not where they would like to be.
Of course it depends on personal tastes. I chose the SE because I don't need a tv on my pocket neither I don't want to use my two hands to operate my smartphone. Making them bigger is not a feature, making them 2:1 aspect ratio also not a feature, making them edge to egde screen not a feature, this is turnning very saturated.
As already mentioned the ability to have my smartphone (iPhone) in this Apple ecosystem is a must have, who didn't try it don't know what it is and what beneficts it has.
Also, and IMO, Google/Android is the actual M$, well, kind of, same business model, making an operating system for every manufacturer in the mobile world and I never chose this path and never will.
Oh, and they make them with 8GB of RAM and even with all that ammount of RAM, almost like a computer, they can't beat a 2GB RAM iPhone. So, yes, there's by far no competition for the iPhone. :)

This. A thousand times this. When T-Mobile called and asked if I wanted a free 7 or S7 if I sent my 6+ back I took the S7. Why?* Because the 7 is exactly the same as my 6+ with a few new features. At least with the S7 I got a whole new experience. VR, wireless charging, a different UI. It took me over a month to get used to all of it, but I did. I found apps that did what I wanted and while I agree that nothing is as smooth as the iPhone experience was, it does feel complete.

Which is to say is also the biggest issue with Android. The iPhone 8 and S8 need to give me something special to make me want to upgrade. These incremental updates have driven me to boredom. Apple did it in five years, and Samsung did it in 5 months.

*Keeping my 6+ never crossed my mind because I hated the device size. I knew either device would be better because it wouldn't cramp my hand trying to read macrumors on the bus.

Meanwhile the Huawei P10 keeps the big top and bottom bezels. Just waiting to see how many tech sites nail them for it. The Verge hands on didn't. We all know if the next iPhone still has the same home button and bezels every tech site on the planet will nail Apple for it.

Android as a mobile OS is far more than 'ok.' At this point, it is superior to iOS.

The 'getting stuck on old versions' complaint isn't an Android complaint, it is a manufacturer complaint. It is the main reason I wish all the Android 'skins' went away and everyone used stock Android.

I assume since you visit this site, you must use some Apple products. Just curious if you use an Android phone. And what do you think of Google’s Pixel phone? Is it superior to the iPhone? How? (Not being sarcastic. Genuinely interested).

No Snapdragon 835 = dead before arrival.

At this point, competing SoCs can't even catch up with the A9 in terms of single-core performance nor does the competition approach the storage speeds of the 6s and 7.

I have the Pixel XL that I switched to from the iPhone 6 Plus and yes it is way better. For a start there isn't a hint of lag anywhere, apps open really fluidly and switching between them is crazy fast (I don't play games on my phone so this my be different for others). That was my one major hangup on Android for the last 5 years of using an iPhone and it looks like its solved. Not needing iTunes is a huge plus for me since I have multiple computers (You can only have the phone synced with one and adding files/music on the fly is a pain if you don't have that PC with you); dragging and dropping music onto the phone is a breeze. Access to the file system is a big plus too. It charges to full in less than 1.5 hours. The camera is better. It has a headphone jack built in.

The only thing the current iPhone 7 Plus has better is water proofing and dual speakers. For me dual speakers is useless since my phone is always on vibrate and I always have headphones on me. I probably won't go back unless iOS is opened up a little more.

Apple has a few things going for them. iTunes, the App Store, and the continuity of using an iPhone, iPad and Mac. Those are strong pluses that keep me in the Apple ecosystem.
Unfortunately, continuity is one of the only things keeping me. Surface is looking really tempting after the last MBP update, but that means switching to W10 Mobile to achieve the same kind of synergy.

Huawei seems like they make decent stuff but I wish they'd try something original and not be such blatant iPhone ripoffs.

There's only so many ways you can build a slab of screen. I have a Huawei Honor 8 (the cheap version of the P9), and frankly, it's more gorgeous and refined than an iPhone. The refractive glass is stunning, and it's incredibly solid.

Sadly, it is extremely let down by its subpar software... Huawei tries to "improve" Android and just creates an ugly, jarring, buggy mess. This is the unfortunate story of far too many Android phones.

Huawei is still st the stage where they get points for trying. The most valuable company in the world doesn't and shouldn't.

Apple has very little to worry about 2017 competition,
How so? The LG looks to be a nice phone and Samsung will release the GS8 in March. Heck even some of the cheap Chinese phones look compelling (ZTE Axon 7) and have me looking that direction, especially with the rumors of a $1k iPhone!

You traded a smoother experience for "a new experience"? I don't want my phone (or any computer) to be an experience that I notice, I want it to get out of the way and give me the content.
