Huawei is still st the stage where they get points for trying.
Yeah?
Whos's giving out these "points" and what are they worth?
At the end of the day these "points" are meaningless if you don't succeed.
See Blackbery/RIM, Palm and Nokia for further clarification on "points for trying".

Is there any real purpose on choosing that unusual aspect ratio other than "viewing 2 Instagram photos side by side"? Serious question.

I couldn't agree more. I don't believe in participation trophies. But many do.

What I find interesting, is that the LG G6 says it's supporting QuickCharge 3.0, which probably means it's plain old micro-USB. The Huawei phones on the other hand do have USB-C.
[doublepost=1488162030][/doublepost]The LG G5 and the LG V20 both have QuickCharge 3.0 and USB-C connectors. The LG G6 is no different and also supports QC 3.0 and USB-C.

Looks good. A bit big for me - but still nice
The interesting thing about this phone is that although it looks big, the new aspect ratio means that LG have been able to fit a 5.7-inch display into a phone with the same footprint as the 5.3-inch LG G5. In other words, it is far more compact than the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus despite having a wider (longitudinally) display.

You traded a smoother experience for "a new experience"? I don't want my phone (or any computer) to be an experience that I notice, I want it to get out of the way and give me the content.

I sure did. The only thing that wasn't smooth was the change. After that I can use both devices. It's no different then picking up a new linux distro, getting a different car, or dating someone who isn't a carbon clone of your ex. It takes a little while to get used to what's different, but the honeymoon is far more enjoyable when the experience is new.

Now I can also use Qi charging when I am constantly getting up from my desk. Without thinking about it. I can use a polished VR system at no extra cost, and I can install apps that require a seperate password or fingerprint to access. Same experience but added security. The 6+ was a terrible device for me due to its size, and I saw no value in getting the same thing I already had.

I just don't see how the iphone 7 gets out of the way any better than the 6.

The 'getting stuck on old versions' complaint isn't an Android complaint, it is a manufacturer complaint. Provide support for your products, manufacturers! It is the main reason I wish all the Android 'skins' went away and everyone used stock Android.

The major reason I bought an iPhone is the continual OS updates and it is the reason I can keep my phone longer than I would an Android phone. I'm not stuck with an old OS with security holes that remain open.

That's why I'm wondering if buying a phone made by Google is the smartest option if a person wants to go android. Hardware made by the people who make the software...sounds familiar!

I'd buy an iPhone in that Huawei green colour immediately! I'm hoping Apple gets some more colours back like they had in the iPod days. None of the stuff released comes close to making me feel like I'm missing out using my iPhone 7 though.

Same. iPhone is cheaper in the long run if you want a phone that is always fully patched.

Except Apple has been doing hardware for more than a decade while google is still a novice in this area. We don't even know how much input they had on the Pixel phone.

I would sooner get a Samsung phone than a google phone, just saying.

Also at MWC on Sunday, the Chinese mobile maker unveiled the Huawei Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic. The Watch 2 has a plastic chassis, while the Classic is metal. Both are sportier, bulkier successors of the company's original 2015 Watch, despite both of them having smaller 1.2-inch circular displays than the prior model’s 1.4-inch screen.

Lmao!!
Well, nobody can accuse Huawei of copying Apple's style; while Apple is trying to make smaller/slimmer devices with larger screens- Huawei is trying to make larger/heavier devices w/ smaller screens.
Omg, stop.... this is TOO funny.

Yeah....
Didn't they just only work out a deal w/ HTC to co-design & manufacture it; but then leave off their branding, so it appears to be a straight "Google" phone??

Note: Hardware for over 4 decades (starting w/ Apple 1 in 1976), to solidify your point! Mobile hardware for 28 years (1st laptop in 1989); & extremely small/increasingly complex electronic gadgets for 16 years (starting w/ iPod in 2001).
To put it in perspective- at that time, Google had just sold their first online ad (almost the entirety of their revenue), the year previous, and didn't design their first piece of hardware until just 7 years ago (Nexus One... also co-designed w/ & manufactured by HTC; in 2010).

Not trying to say google/android is better than apple/iOS, just curious if a Google phone might be a better option. I've got no experience with android save from a tablet that I bought and returned about 5 years ago. I'm often tempted by all these posts claiming android is now the superior operating system. My wallet would be better off if I would just resist...I cringe at the thought of buying new apps for android and trying to figure out which ones would work best for me on a new operating system.

How much are we looking at here, were you to purchase everything again?

I must easily have spent hundreds on apps so far.

There is by far no competition for the iPhone, at the moment.
Maybe not in North America and parts of Europe, if people want to pay the piper for top end Iphone hardware, but Huawei in China especially, where Apple is so desperate to try and gain market share, this is an uphill battle and a phone like this will appeal to that market.

Things like 6Gb of ram is more for hubris than functionality, but that's what that market puts a bigger emphasis on, as an example. Colors, too.

So apparently some journalists like the new Huawei Watch 2 features and extended battery life... but DAMN is that design a step backwards. Like, two years backwards. The original Huawei was the best looking of the first gen smartwatches, and now it's the worst. What happened over there?!

Love that most of these top phone makers are finally getting rid of those bezels. Not an LG fan but the G6 looks gorgeous. And the leaked S8 looks amazing as well. Really does make the iPhone 7 look absolutely dated as hell :(

From a consumers point of view it doesn't matter who's fault it is. And I am sure if Google did stick it's guns, manufactures and carriers would change their practice.
