Nice phone. But it still runs Android... [Dont get me wrong, Android itself is ok, but getting stuck on old versions is really annoying and a security risk that I'm not prepared to take - for my daily driver.]
[doublepost=1488162030][/doublepost]The LG G5 and the LG V20 both have QuickCharge 3.0 and USB-C connectors. The LG G6 is no different and also supports QC 3.0 and USB-C.

The interesting thing about this phone is that although it looks big, the new aspect ratio means that LG have been able to fit a 5.7-inch display into a phone with the same footprint as the 5.3-inch LG G5. In other words, it is far more compact than the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus despite having a wider (longitudinally) display.

More about the screen size for me. I had a 5.2 Xperia Z3 a few years back - great phone but reaching the top of the screen was a pain. I've been at 5 inches for about 3 months now, seems to be the perfect size for me. I just use my 4/4.7 screen iPhones for testing at this point. Yeah the Iphone Plus is just a joke on how big it is.

It's not even a competition because that would require a degree of similarity in offers. I've had several Android phones - they were all horrible. Android really is horrible. Despite having what was a top of the range phone, by the time the next version of Android came out it was no longer a top of the range phone, so no update for me. Security flaws are identified followed by no updates. Email accounts got hacked. Almost everything in the Google Market was adware, often unusably so. I don't get any of this with the iPhone. So the hardware is not quite so "out there" but it works beautifully. Apple do hardware for a customer experience - Google collect data, the rest do sales and don't really care about customer experience because they trade on the "don't want an iPhone" feeling that some folks have. So I wouldn't care if the top of the range Android phone was half the price and ten times as good as the iPhone, all else being the same, I'd still stick with the iPhone.

Is there any real purpose on choosing that unusual aspect ratio other than "viewing 2 Instagram photos side by side"? Serious question.

2:1 is the ideal ratio for VR, so maybe they have some plans for that.

How much are we looking at here, were you to purchase everything again?

I must easily have spent hundreds on apps so far.

Hard to say! The biggest problem is the search to find "the app" which suits my particular need. I can't tell you how many to-do apps I've been through trying to find the right one. Still not sure I've found it. Things get complicated as my workplace blocks iCloud (but not native iOS apps) and dropbox, so that really limits me. And then there's the question of integration with my laptop; the build-in iOS apps tend to sync flawlessly, and I appreciate that aspect. Yep, Apple has me hooked. Fortunately I haven't felt the need to update my laptop now for 4 years, and my iPhone is holding up after 3 years. I'm still Android curious, just wish there was a way to try them out without a large monetary commitment.

Thanks for the discussion, Abazigal, nice to have a conversation here without insults being hurled!

I know that feeling of bouncing between multiple apps trying to find the right one, because each one has some cool gimmick which the rest don't and you can't make up your mind. Currently settled on Todoist. Wish Asana had a proper ios app.

Same with mail and note-taking apps.

Apple has very little to worry about 2017 competition,

let's wait until Apple actually releases the iPhone 8. So far, pretty much everything we know about it is speculation. And to be honest: Apple hasn't had a great track record of wowing the crowd lately.

Android as a mobile OS is far more than 'ok.' At this point, it is superior to iOS. The iOS benefit relies heavily on Apple's cross platform connections between tvOS, watchOS, iOS and macOS.

The 'getting stuck on old versions' complaint isn't an Android complaint, it is a manufacturer complaint. Provide support for your products, manufacturers! It is the main reason I wish all the Android 'skins' went away and everyone used stock Android.
The latest version of Android is more than ok, I agree. But neither of my two devices can even get close to the latest greatness.
I buy an Android device and the reality (except Pixel etc) is that I get stuck on an old version. Blame the manufacturers who whoever; whatever, I'm stuck using lollipop or something similar.

No Snapdragon 835 = dead before arrival.

At this point, competing SoCs can't even catch up with the A9 in terms of single-core performance nor does the competition approach the storage speeds of the 6s and 7.

This is why I'm glad S8 is coming with 835

Meanwhile the Huawei P10 keeps the big top and bottom bezels. Just waiting to see how many tech sites nail them for it. The Verge hands on didn't. We all know if the next iPhone still has the same home button and bezels every tech site on the planet will nail Apple for it.

Maybe tech sites have higher innovation expectations on Apple ?

It's like saying that because your car's top speed is 325km/h vs mine's 285km/h, mine is useless.

The Kirin 955 was already plenty fast (and good enough, the P9's UI was very smooth, loaded everything bar big games extremely quickly), I'm sure the 960 is excellent.

The 821 is also fast enough, I played with a friend's Pixel phone and it was perfectly smooth.

I like the design of the lg g6.
Small bezels and chins. I am hoping for an iphone x with a slightly bigger screen 5.8 inch and a 19:9 screen ratio, and even smaller chins and bezels, with the same design /style as a steel space black apple watch.
I really wonder what they are going to do with the touchid, function area, taptic engine, etc. Can' t wait.

What will be interesting is will people be willing to pay out 1,000 for the new OLED iphone while the fantastic S8 be maybe 200 cheaper. Will that tempt people to drop the iphone for the S8 OR S8 plus. Certainly if the rumours of a 5.1 usable screen is true.

They will also have the headphone jack to some that seems to matter

The s7 is more than $200 cheaper than the iphone 7, and apple still kills this one in units sold , the iphone 7 has no headphone jack, the s7 does, so a iphone x/8 that on par with the s8 on specs. ... you don' t have to worry.

phone manufacturers think people buy the phone of tech specs, any one can match that. The main reason pick their phones is because the software, their either want iOS or Android.

Maybe there should be a 3rd phone OS company, kind of like Microsoft with Windows for PCs.

Maybe so but a 5.8 inch iPhone 8 with just 5.1 usable screen would be a turn off to me. Will see

The Windows phone was a terrible competitor in m own opinion
The biggest problem imo is that carriers did not want people to buy them. They constantly steered prospective buyers towards android. You cannot sustain a platform when the place you buy the product from doesn't want to sell them.

I've owned windows phones and they were not bad phones.

so the huawei p10+ has the same amount flash and actually 1.5x more ram than my MBA.
[insert but why meme]

Not completely the same, especially if the G6 is priced the same as the S8.
