Sigh... it's not a DVI adaptor. A DVI adaptor wouldn't cost more than $30. It's a HDMI to mini display port convertor.

"Want to use your 27" iMac as an HDTV? Kanex was showing off their HDMI to mini Display Port adapter that lets you connect your Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Blu-ray players to your 27" iMac. Both video and audio are transmitted across at a resolution up to 1920x1200. The retail price for the device will be $149 and its expected for release in the next couple of months."

does anyone know if this will work with the 2006 white intel imacs? i have a 24" one with mini dvi input and would love to use this for a ps3.

No. It will not for 2 reasons.

This requires Mini DisplayPort.
iMacs with Mini DVI never supported input.

Tales of Monkey Island on a Mac? No more booting into Windows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Parallels wouldn't even play it, for some crazy reason, no matter what the versions on either Leopard or SL.

BTW, arn, the previous Escape from Monkey Island debuted on the Mac and was published by LucasArts. I think it came out 11 years ago, big budget, had immediate coverage on Mac sites like this one b/c they offered a trial version where you could play the entire first level of Melee Island.

Escape from Monkey Island, the Scumm Bar song, back when recorded instruments were still in game soundtracks.

And who can forget that Mac original game, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge.

This is the music the mac was capable of playing in 1990, folks:

"The Town of Woodtick"

Both Tales of Monkey and Sam And Max played correctly on my Parallels 5.0, from the beginning to the end...

Now that it's been a year and a half since Apple put MiniDisplay Ports on every one of their computers, how come there still aren't ANY devices that use MiniDisplay Port? They just can't put HDMI in there, nooo, that would be lame, it's industry standard and everyone already uses it, plus it also has audio, we don't need that! Instead, people should buy adapters for hundreds of dollars to convert their MiniDisplay Port into HDMI.

The iPad could do with one of these WISAIR chips, for when your browsing stuff in your living room and want to throw it on the big screen just using the pad to navigate. I think we are going to see a lot more development in this area.

Nice shiny Apple Aluminum products... The Apple smelters work night n day....

Hey Aren't aluminum smelters one of the worst / highest energy consumption factories in the world??? That's not so environmentally smart?

But sure feels nice holding a MacBook or iPad made of the stuff!

Anyone know a UK Supplier/retailer for the wireless usb display dock?

This doesn't help people like me who want to play thier Wii on their 27" iMac, does it? If I understand correctly??

And your point is? How much do you think it costs them to make this HDMI to mini display port in factories in China? $5? $7?

It's wrong to have a 2,000%+ profit margin simply because you know you have no competition!

Still highway robbery as far as I'm concerned!

It's good to see some Mac hardware for once even if it's not from Apple. :D

Wireless video and the HDMI to Mini-Display Port are very welcome additions to the ecosystem.

I loved the adaptor for PS3/iMac27 to play 1080p but at 150u$$ is half the PS3 price.

suspect the answer is no but...

with the Wisair wireless USB, could you

a) connect one part of the pair to an HDTV (USB to HDMI)
b) connect the other part to the USB port on an Airport Extreme Base Station (USB to USB)

and thereby enable any mac on your home network to send audio/video/whatever to the large screen?

Like I said, I suspect the AEBS is hobbled somehow not to let this work, but would appreciate if someone more technical than me could confirm.

thanks!

I'm sure that wouldn't work. It requires Mac-specific drivers to run the USB dongle to transmit the video, so putting it onto an Airport Extreme Base station wouldn't work.

It's not like this is live-saving medicine. It's not "wrong". If the profit margins really are that high (which they are certainly not), then another company will come in and sell one for less. But there's probably a reason there is no other competition (technical or legal hurdles which drive up the cost).

Monkey Island

Hey, neat...another Monkey Island game. How did I miss this news from last year? I must be so busy that I must have never heard about it.

Monkey vs. Bioshock

You know a game is really good when it costs $35 and uses the fact that it's 3D and also on the Wii to seem less lame. Sure puts those pathetic games like the Bioshock series to shame. End sarcasm.

Personally, I'd rather play a Monkey Island game. I played a bit of Bioshock 2 last night, but I've been much more for adventure games than for action games. Adventure games are more my cup of tea...as long as the tea isn't served in a porcelain cup.

"Everybody is going the Pseudo Genre, Action-Adventure." - Some Random Gamer Magazine Typically, when the pigeon in a whole clan dub a game a genre ignore the first word/s.

The last game the quenched my adventuresque story thirst was Folklore.

This can't be a simple adapter like you are assuming. In order to display any PS3/Blu-ray output you have to have HDCP support which the Apple monitors do not have and this device must be providing.

Well why don't you launch your own company, sign a contract with a manufacturer in China.. send them your design, etc - and come up with the same thing that you can sell for $30? You have an immediate and a massive customer base right here, on these forums.

Something tells me that after you go through all the trouble of doing the above, you won't sell it for less than $100/cable - guaranteed.

It's supply and demand. No one else makes it, they do. Want that ability? Then buy it. If you're so enraged over the price, then vote with your wallet.

I for one am now really wanting a 27" iMac to go with my PS3. That'd be so nice in my office.
