Every few days, at random times (taking pictures, playing a game, etc.) my iPhone 7+ will do this soft crash thing. The screen turns black, there is a spinning wheel, then it's on my lock screen. It only takes a few seconds, so it's not a full reboot.

Trying to figure out if others are having this. If so, I'll try to ride it out and see if 10.1 fixes it. If I'm the only one, I'm going to try a factory reset (I restored this from a backup of my 6+), and if that doesn't help, take it to the Apple Store.

It only happens every few days, and I can't make it do it on command, so it's going to be hard to prove to Apple that is is happening.

That is my plan, but I don't want to do that if this is a known issue and a restore won't fix it. I'd rather not lose all my iMessages on my phone. I have conversations going back 2 years.

It's not a known issue.
That's usually the problem with old backup files from years ago created on old iOS versions and on older devices.
Many software bugs will carry over to the new phone.
Up to you if you want to keep dealing with it.

Yeah I'd try a restore. I have the 7+ and have only had 1 crash from an older version of an app that I tried to use. Other than that it's been pretty solid minus the iOS 10 bugs, like the disappearing number pad during a call. WatchOS 3.0 on the other hand is per garbage. Apple should be ashamed of that release in it's current state.

There's another thread on here about this same problem other people are having, including myself. When I first got this phone I set it up as new, didn't transfer anything over except my contacts and photos. So I don't think going through setting it up as new will fix it. Probably just a software bug that will get fixed with an update(hopefully). But no you are not the only one with this problem
[doublepost=1476217051][/doublepost]Mine seems to only happen when I use the camera app. But it's happened maybe 3 or 4 times since I got the phone

Thanks, this is why I wanted to ask before I took the time to do a restore and lose all my iMessages. I searched earlier and couldn't find any threads, but I will look again for the one you are referring to.

Look up "iPhone randomly goes to a black screen."

Mine does the same thing. It was setup as new.

My 7 plus 128 did this "re-spring" as people are calling it when I tried to open this thread. I have tried setting up as new, restoring from a backup, etc and I still have the issue. I tried the 10.1 beta and the problem only happened once a day. I just went back to 10.0.3 and it's happening A LOT. I've missed out on being able to take a few time sensitive pictures because of it.

Try an iTunes restore and setup as new.

mine does it multiple times a day since I got it the sunday after the release day. Just haven't gotten time to run to local store to get it exchanged or fixed
I set it up as new to begin with so not sure what else to do..

I have been running the 10.1 beta for a little over a week and I haven't had the issue once.

If restoring as new does not cure the problem, you know it is hardware and need to get it replaced changed. You can always restore from an encrypted backup later after you get your new device. It that makes your new device start doing the same rebooting, you know that it was a software/app problem.

I am having this issue too. It happens multiple times a day and it's very annoying. I tried a complete restore and it did not help.
[doublepost=1477328494][/doublepost]10.1 is out as of now. I will try it with that and if still no improvement, I will request a replacement from Apple.

My phone has done it a few times. I think it happened twice when I tried to open the camera from the lock screen.

From what I have gathered, it is not device specific. A co-workers iPhone 6s does it as well.

Can confirm. I have the exact same issue on my 6S and 7 when swiping down to see my notifications. Happens 1 in every 10 attempts.

A little over a year later, we're into iOS 11 and I have this exact issue... except my 7+ is doing it every 5-60 seconds... i've done a full restore of freshly downloaded OS and restore form backup and it's still doing it. I really don't want to start fresh but I know I have to try that if I am going to get Apple to replace my device.

Thankfully mine is still under warranty. Looks like i'm off to the Apple store next weekend.

I don't know how random this is because my 7+ purchased a year ago almost exactly now has this problem and it started yesterday.
[doublepost=1512224965][/doublepost]Here is the solution you have to turn off all notifications then update to 11.2 here is the link to apple article.
