My order status just updated from 2 Weeks to 9/21...
I had a reservation number at 12:31AM PDT, completed my order at 6:00AM.

Sweeet! Just checked mine which said "2 weeks" and it now shows 9/21 as well.
What time did you guys order?
I tried to preorder on the appstore app at 12:30am but got a "reservation" confirmation instead. Finally was able to checkout on apple.com at 1:30am.
So the lady is saying other people are having issues with the checkout now button kicking people back out to the cart.....
She took my number, and gave me her direct line number as well. She says I will receive an email once they are able to resolve it
I friggin HATE dealing with this crap every year ... why can't they EVER get this right.
The thing is they don't WANT to get this right. News sites are reporting today that the iPhone 5 sold out in less than an hour. There will be unbelievable lines next Friday. You can not buy that kind of publicity.
You guys need to take a chill pill. Those Chinese kids can only work so fast. I'm sure they're doing everything they can to make you happy.
Just ended my chat with Apple. The person I talked to was very polite and spent a lot of time trying to look in to the problem.
They acknowledged others are having the same issue and said they are "trying to research the systems to be sure that we provide you with the best solution."
They eventually told me to not complete the order at this time, and to provide my name and phone number so they can contact me back to complete the order by phone. I gave them the information after being reassured, and confirming, that they will contact me today.
In regards to what others with the same issue should do they stated, "we trust that this issue is being resolved since you have brought it to our attention. The best option is to recommend that others contact us so that it can be resolved in the same way."

I didn't receive a phone call from them yet.
But, it looks like it's working now.
Getting "9/21 Ship Date" all the way through. Looks like I'll be finalizing my order . . .

Just got the exact same email. I had no problem waiting 2 weeks but this makes me excited.
I also am getting 9/21 delivery, but when i press the button to make the order, it loops me back to my cart.....
I thought I was having a similar issue but realized I was pressing "Continue Shopping" instead of "Check Out". haha.
Anyway, check me off too. Got my email confirming 9/21. Can't wait!
hehe I am sure i am doing it right. I upgraded 2 phones perfectly, but this add a line reservation - I get to the processing wheel and it spits me back to the cart.
