Ummmm, because there is a thing as too small?

They've sold millions of minis. The existence and success of the mini is beyond doubt.

I think that's because AT THE TIME iPad Mini has sexier design, lighter compared to iPad 4 which is heavy, burdensome and looks like crap from stone age with thick bezel.

Now the Air is lighter, much lighter to the point it's very close to Mini weight. All combined with bigger screen and battery makes it a very tough choice. The absolute win for the Mini is pixel density. Portability is good with both now.

----------

And this would matter because...?

Because some people would prefer the bigger screen and battery?

I work in a reseller and I have actually been surprised how little we have sold! I thought because or the new form factor it would have flown off our shelves but we still have so much stock. Maybe people are neglecting the resellers cause everyone knows that stock is readily available everywhere.

Then you must not have held them side by side (at least an Air and an old Mini). To call them "very close" is inaccurate. There is quite a difference, one that will matter to a lot of people.

I'm sure it's true that they are selling a lot, but also remember, they are trained on exactly what to say. It's like they're fed a script.

This person didn't sound like she was reading a script to me.

Haven't been to that Apple store. Normally I go to MOA or Roseville! Might get my Air from Target though, since I'm trading my mini :D:D

Exactly. That is the main reason why my wife wants me to get the mini 2 retina over the Air. Sighhhh!

If the Air had 2 GB of RAM, I would be getting both. But as of now, I'm going to skip the Air this year and pray that they will give it 2 GB by this time next year. But I sincerely doubt it. Apple is just beyond reasonable when it comes to providing adequate RAMs in their product always, which is too bad really.

I just got the Air last week and my wife still wants a Retina Mini. Quite honestly, she wants it because it will fit in her purse easier than an Air.

I was at the Edina Minnesota Apple store this morning. It wasn't packed to the rafters but still pretty busy. I asked one of the sales associates if the iPad Air was selling well. Her eyes lit up and she said they were "flying off the shelves". She also said a lot of people coming in thinking they would want the Mini ended up getting an Air instead. :)

Yes, Air is exactly size I need and no need of anything else besides iphone.

The Air is a beautiful size and so compact compared to earlier iPads and for me the bigger screen makes it a no brainer compared to the mini.
I have been in several UK apple stores over the last week and believe me, the Air is flying of the shelves. People can't get enough of them

Just at MOA yesterday, and pretty busy. Air looks nice, but also waiting to see the new mini. [ off topic: Wonder if MOA will EVER have stock on iPhones. Also, did you see the Marshall speakers? Wow, talk about a blast from the past! Think i'm in love.]

I wonder if her eyes will cloud over when she recounts the copious returns?

Also a fellow MN resident! Yay! I went to the Ridgedale Apple store yesterday and as I walked in this guy was buying his whole family (2 daughters, his wife and himself) Airs. Then two seconds later another guy bought two. I was like, alright, people must not want to wait for the new mini! lol

I ended up grabbing the 32 GB Air :D

It's just good business to make claims of high demand no matter what the truth is.

Those in my area, at work, friends, and my local Apple store where I spend lots of money on all things Apple...are waiting for the retina mini.

It's a much better product, I can't wait to dump my low res mini, for a retina mini.

So because you think the mini is a better product you assume Apple was BS'ing me? Even though they also said people came in thinking they wanted a mini but walked out with an Air? Why do so many assume everyone really wants a mini? There are some of us who want the bigger screen.

If the usage numbers from analytics companies are reliable, this is an absolutely spectacular launch.

Time will tell on quarterly earnings whether Airs are flying off the shelves. No line ups and TONS of stock at the downtown Apple Store in the large city I live.

I think the Air is nice with the improvements, but it's still just a giant iPod Touch. Mine's been collecting dust for a while. Now the MS Surface 2? That's some innovation. I think Apple really missed an opportunity to propel the iPad forward by not making it better at productivity. The MS Surface 2 Type Cover with backlighting is unreal. Apple comes up with nothing.

And don't tell me about third party accessories. They're all ugly and crappy. The MS Surface 2 Type Cover is completely designed and integrated into the product. It's razor thin to the point of being nary any thicker than a smart cover. The other thing the Surface 2 has going for it is the built in stand.

The iPad is still... a stillborn when it comes to productivity. It's hard to justify wanting to run out and spend your money on something so limited.

How is the mini a "much better product"? It's the same product but 1.8" smaller and .25 lbs lighter. Almost the same thing, and no more than a personal preference as to which is better.
