I have a better Idea then trying to fixit. On my American Express card and on my Citi card, they both offer 90 day accident and theft protection. I bought my iBook and accessories on my American Express card. I would check with your (or your parents) credit card company to see if they offer any sort of protection.

Last summer I had an Ebay deal go wrong and Ebay and the seller would not help me (sent wrong video card, did not work). I had used my American Express card via PayPal to pay for it and they refunded the money for me in 2 months.

We are going to try what CanadaRAM said and talk to our credit card people (she's on the phone now).. and if that doesn't work.. were going to buy a new screen (whole top part) and hook it up so my brother can have a computer.

Yes. Reading the threads to help. ;)

Well after being on hold for about 30 minutes :( Apple finally got us the fax to give to our credit card insurance company to file a claim.

We'll know in 7-10 days if we can fix it, as we are not paying $881.79 for a new screen.

No offense (sureeeeee......), but a good reason to get the 12" is because the screens are cheaper.

For some reason it sounds like it's fake. Photos and all. Sorry but parents should hit their kids not macs.
(i'm kidding so calm down)

I'm actually taking this VERY well, as my precious $1321.75 iBook got smashed because of an angry parent. I could keep this a grudge on her for the rest of her life(i'm not like that) but, i realized, that she really didn't mean to do it (obviously)

Are you kidding me? You said she hit it "like 5 times" but now she "really didn't mean to?" Mac-bashers suck! (I mean actual "bashers," not just the Mac-phobic luddites!) You are a very patient soul. Is it because you're natually calm, or because you've got years to go before you escape that household? (I can remember what that was like!) Just be sure to protect that new little guy when he gets there... cuz you know all the other computers in your house are going to be telling him how his days are numbered and he's the next to get it in the kisser. GOOD LUCK!

I have an idea buy apple care because it covers 1 screen Replacement :D

1. Don't post in this size ever again.

2. AppleCare doesn't cover accidental damage.

So, i was talking to my step-mom and we started to argue, I'm NOT going into the argument, but she got really pissed off, (i pushed her to far) and without her thinking, she hit it like 5 times   :(

She was sooo sorry, and ordered one right after, I'm not as mad... We are going to fix the old iBook and get it working, and have my brother work for it :p -- I accidentley dropped his green iMac G3 333Mhz (screen broke  ) so he doesn't have a computer --

damn... if I were you at the same point of time I would have just stabbed her

but thats just me :D

Cinder blocks work better. But that's just my style of population control. :D

i'm very sorry to hear that all over the world women just treat technology worse than a morning's newspaper that will be trashed in the evening anyway. they go nuts when there are coffee stains on a front page, but cannot see a problem with banging a laptop.

oh well... i hope you had an insurance against female stupidity ;)

Please tell me you're joking-- you do realize, not all women treat tech like trash? And you do realize, there are women members on MR?

yes and no. yes, some women treat tech nicely, but i just happen to have experienced the very same kind of situation myself. my ex-wife broke my ex-powerbook with her fist, for no apparent reason.

and no, that was not the reason why she's an ex now. only that i definetely will never miss such behaviour ;)

Yeah, that would suck. LOL. Even though I'm going through it.

Well the new iBook is "Shipped".
So..
I might get it this week as I paid for 1-3 buisness days.

I'll need it. Next time she comes close to it w/ wine (or w/o wine, lol) i'll say BACK OFF LADY!

keep your new iBook away from the step mom... >_>

That's a no brainer.

Aug 10, 2005 11:30 PM

Package data transmitted to FedEx

:(

Been in the same place for 2 days now.

I want it to ship already.

I know how the waiting game goes. I waited for a week for my 15" powerbook w/ 128MB VRAM but when it came there was a dead pixel smack dab in the middle of the screen  I sent it back this morning and the replacement has been released for overnight shipping (stock superdrive model this time due to a time constraint). I really hope it comes tomorrow!

I think it's funny how some people's parents can buy them everything. I never got my parents to buy me a new mac... I had to save up for mine. But anyway, sucks about the iBook. I work at a place with a portable classroom and lets just say the entire portable classroom went down a rather large flight of steps. Only 2 of the 20 iBooks inside, however, bit the dust. It was a pretty sweet/sad/awesome/disgusting site.

My mom once smashed her own cellphone against a table in a spur-of-the-moment anger spaz attack.

You'd think five hits to an iBook would do more damage than just crack the inside of the LCD... Is there any damage to the casing around the screen (where the Apple logo is)?

Nope. Just a broken LCD no scratches (caused from her) or dents or anything ... except that the screen casing on the right side doesn't close all the way when you shut it.

The Mac itself is fine.

jfreak is a bit general in his observation but he does make a point. not all but several women do not show computers the respect they deserve. I had a female friend in college that used to always tap my screen with her long nails. now that is a totally clueless thing to do.

there are others I know but i'm not going to get into every case. i'm just speaking from experience.

also.. just to add what I would do if someone did that to my computer..

well.. hmmm. first I would yell and ask what the f**k is wrong with them. then depending on who they are they may or may not be on my crap list for life.

one of the biggest unspoken computer rules is that you DO NOT mess with anothers computer. thats right up there above turning your head when someone types a password.
