Some guys told me that is a lens flare, depends in the colour, shape, directly towards the sun or strong light sources.

BUT!!! You guys in your iphones, YOU DONT GET IT when you make the picture and you look at it. Am i wrong ?

My cell company change my phone for a new one, but in the new I still have the same problem. So im sure all the S2 have the same problem.
P.D. I am talking about the tiny point that becomes pink. And it is not dust or anything i always clean the glass of the lens.

Our local AT&T stores sold out of the SGS2 in a flat minute today, but I got to play around with a demo unit for an extended amount of time. Actually, I was quite impressed with the phone. I like the larger screen and the pure black of the SuperAMOLED tech. But the resolution is not quite as good as the iPhone 4; although it is subtle, some aliasing is visible on smaller text.

The UI seemed a lot more fluid than any Android device I've used before. The wealth of options everywhere was staggering coming from my three years' experience with iOS devices, but as an old-school PC tweaker I enjoyed the idea that I had all of them at my disposal. I'm just not sure I really need that kind of control (and therefore that kind of hassle) on my phone, which by and large I just want to work properly and then get out of my way when I'm done with it.

It wasn't all roses, though. I particularly disliked Android's version of inertial scrolling. Seemed to start slow, then suddenly start flying and took forever to wind down, such that I'd have to stop it again with my finger. Coming from iOS it was annoying, but I'd probably get used to it.

But I could not for the life of me get past the keyboard. I tried keying input into several different apps, including the memo pad where I attempted to write several full paragraphs. The keyboard just could not keep up with me, dropping every fourth or fifth character. Major showstopper for me, as I like to write quite a bit on my phone -- blog posts, notes, lists, emails, and so forth. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this, and if there is an easy solution? It was really the only significant problem I had with the phone, but it was a major one.

After playing with the SGS2 I went over and picked up the iPhone 4 demo unit. This is a 16-month old device, but IMO it still looks and feels like a world-class machine and the display resolution is still out of this world. As a current 3GS owner who never got an iP4, I'm going to have a hard time resisting whatever Apple announces this week.

Anyway, my feeling is that anyone who's seriously considering the SGS2 as an alternative to the iPhone 4S/whatever would be remiss if they didn't at least wait until more news of the Nexus Prime emerged, for comparison purposes.

As far as keyboards are concerned... it's Android. Not only you have three different keyboards provided with SGSII right away (and you can get more from Android Market) each of those keyboards have a set of options for you to tweak. For example, the Android keyboard has the following settings:

• Vibrate on keypress: check this field to have the phone vibrate
each time you touch a key on the keyboard.
• Sound on keypress: check this field to play a sound each time you
touch a key on the keyboard.
• Popup on keypress: check this field to show a small popup of each
character that you type.
• Touch to correct words: check this field to touch and highlight
words that you want to correct.
• Auto-capitalization: check this field to have the keyboard
automatically capitalize the first letter of the first word after a period,
the first word in a text field, and all words in name fields.
• Show settings key: allows you to select how the settings key will
be displayed.
• Voice input: check this field to be able to enter text in a message
by talking.
• Input languages: tap on a language that you want to input.
• Quick fixes: check this field to automatically correct some common
misspellings as you type.
• Show suggestions: check this field to show suggested words in a
field above the keyboard as you type.
• Auto-complete: check this field to automatically enter a suggested
word, shown in orange in the field above the keyboard, when you
enter a space or punctuation.

Some of these settings may and will affect the typing speed.

Obviously it's not a camera's problem. You just can't shoot right at the (high) sun and expect to get a clean picture. You'll get the same problem even with $10000 camera and lens.

Thank you OP for sharing your experience with the GS2! I'm still hoping to be blown away this Tuesday, but if apple doesn't deliver I'll seriously consider Samsung's offering.

Maybe after tuesday and NO new iphone is announced people will open their eyes and start thinking for them selves instead of going with the trend all the time. Apple is slowly falling and everyone knows it!! If they weren't they wouldn't be suing everyone that is their competition! All i can say is they better have a new phone tuesday or a lot of people will go else where especially since 4G is getting stronger on a daily basis.

Read the front page. "Apple Sends Out iPhone Event Invitations." The only words were "Let's Talk iPhone". I think we will see a new iPhone.

Going with the trend? There are only a few OSs available for a mobile phone. How can you not be following thousands of people by choosing any OS.

Apple is not falling. They just haven't released the next iPhone yet. You have no idea of what will or will not be part of the next generation.

Apple is suing for their intellectual property, which was being copied by several different companies. If they are falling, why are so many people trying to copy them?

4G (HSPA+/LTE) may be getting stronger, the chips used are still battery hogs and in the US, 4G isn't even readily available. T-Mobile has it, but as far as we know, Apple won't even be selling the iPhone on T-Mobile directly. AT&T and Verizon don't have a strong enough network yet to make 4G really make a difference.

To the OP, thanks for taking the time to post about your experience with the samsung phone. I didn't really know anything about it until know. Thanks.

I picked up the GS II today and love it. First phone I've tried that rivalved the iPhone since the Nexus One which was slept on as well.

Its not an iPhone and really my only complaint is the apps. I've been spoiled by apps like instagram, tweebot, osfoora etc and there is nothing that compares on Android.

None of the apps seem very polished especially Pocket Informant looks awful

considering this phone strongly but ive been an iphone user since september of 2007 and am not sure i want to learn a new operating system

Thanks for the information in this thread. I'm strongly considering the Sammy GS2.

War Eagle to you war eagle!! I hope Tim Cook doesn't fail us here, but I think the die is cast. Beat Arkansas!!

I completely agree with you. The gs2 is a very very strong phone. I have used it on the at&t network and sprint's also and I love the phone! Bravo. This is the phone I've settled on should Apple drop the ball Tuesday.

Guess I also could've split the pros and cons up between the device and Android.

The SGS2 is great! Very fast and a beautiful screen- although lower resolution that the iP4 which is VERY noticeable. And it DOES take a while to charge- 3 hours from 20% to 100%. Battery life drains rather quickly as well.

I guess most of the cons had something to do with Android itself. Not being able to control which tools app call on- like turning off web or gps functionality, is a BIG problem for me. I like knowing I'm in control of my mobile device- not the other way around.

Also- Android apps really don't compare to iPhone apps IMO. They don't even have Tiger Woods Golf! I know this may sound stupid, but it's by EA Sports! Not some small, one-man programming company.

Anyway, I'll post more later. BTW- I'm not really sure how I got downranked lol. Especially on MACRUMORS. I didn't flame the SGS2 OR Android- just gave honest feedback. Maybe it's just because of the inherent strength of loyalty operating systems receive from their users. Or maybe people ARE tired of iOS so they are hoping that Android can be what they've wanted. Either way, I'm just being honest.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_4 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8K2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Worse resolution on a much bigger screen does not appeal to me at all. That is a double ding on display quality.

AT&T kept the screen size of this phone the same (and the name) as the international version. The other carriers chose to increase the screen size which is why you get the resolution issues with those carriers.

I started out a couple of weeks ago waiting for the new iPhone and came across the S2 and I have to say unless Apple provides at least a 4" screen its the S2 for me. My wife's iPhone 4 screen is tiny.

A phone with a larger, nicer screen, expandable drive up to 64GB and probably stronger (even though its plastic) is a win for me. I have never owned a smartphone so its easier for me embrace Android I guess. I am still waiting until the iPhone 5 comes out so I can see them both side by side before I make a switch but as of today I am looking more at the S2.

I would not recommend doubletwist for syncing itunes, at least not on a Mac. I would however strongly recommend iSyncR, and downloaded the .99 wifi sync as well. ISyncR is 2.99$, and probably the best money you will spend on an android with an itunes setup.

I bought a SG2 yesterday to replace an i4. I have to say, I love widgets, but hate how each app has its own settings. THe overall feel is not as polished, but is more customizeable. Also, the keyboard is hard to use. That will hopefully change with use.

If they simply bump the screen size on the iphone 4 tomorrow, I will buy one, and take this phone back.

I recommend iSyncr too. I never had a problem with it and it synched my play counts too.

Just a little background- I've had every iteration of the iPhone. Besides the 2G iPhone, I've picked up each new iPhone on release day. I love my iPhones and my many Macs however, I've recently felt intrigued by Android and figured I'd try it out- and with AT&T's 30 day return policy, I feel comfortable in trying my luck. SO- I picked up a SGSII today.

What I like:

1. Beautiful 4.3" screen
- This is one of my main reasons for switching. The iPhone 4's screen is just too small. 4.3" is great! I'd maybe even like 4.5"...
-The colors on the SGSII from the SAMOLED a incredible! They make the iPhone 4's colors look VERY weak.

CONS:

1. Lower resolution
-While the screen may have beautiful colors, it is immediately noticeable that it's resolution isn't near the iP4. On the iP4, the engadget app's thumbnails looks like true pictures. On the SGS2, they look like old bitmaps.

Good job you've got a 30 day return policy, you do realise they just announced a new S2, Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE.

4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD screen with a 1280 x 720 resolution

Only available for the Korean market initially, but might be worth keeping an eye out to see what their plans are. It addresses your points of the 4.3 inch screen not quite being big enough for you, and the resolution issue.

I certainly wouldn't buy the S2 until there's more info on the S2 HD.

I'd hate to see Apple stumble for the first time in a long time due to a new iPhone still having a 3.5" screen.
Upgraded internals/new camera etc are all great but the trend with everyone else is 4"+ screens. If all we get is an iPhone 4S with the same screen size and upgraded internals I fear that the pundits and market might not take to the new phone quite as much.
Perhaps the assistant feature which has come to light recently might be the "one more thing" that really makes this a compelling upgrade but for me I wouldn't hesitate to get a new phone if it has at least a 4" screen.

Once you play with a SGS2 with such a big screen it's really tough to go back to 3.5". Of course, there is a limit in my mind as to how big a phone screen can get (4.5" I think might be pushing it) before it's too uncomfortable.

I find it impossible (or nearly) that people don't experience glitches and lags with their iPhones. I and all of my colleagues at work who have the iPhone 4 have experienced them from time to time. More or less than Android devices - I can't say. But the notion that iOS and the iPhone is free from technical issues seems dis genuine to me.

Its lens flare. My $2500 camera and $1,100 lens gets flare when you take a picture of the sun, what do you expect?

I'm really debating a switch to the samsung also. I got my first iPhone a year ago, black iPhone 4. After I few months I tried an inspire, then back to a white iPhone.

From what I've heard of the sgs 2, it flies. My mom and my daughter just both got galaxy tab's for their birthdays and I really am impressed by them. My only downfall is that I've put a lot of money into my iPhone apps wise. I'm just really looking for a bigger screen and I'm almost positive now that's not going to happen tomorrow. Plus, while I love the retina display, the shape of the iPhone 4 is really uncomfortable for me, and a glass back is ridiculous.

Picked up the SG2 yesterday. I'll just say that apple had best bring something tomorrow or else I'm sticking with the samsung. Phone just flat out flies, looks gorgeous, and Android OS isn't difficult at all to transition to. I used Doubletwist air sync to transfer over all my music/photos/video and it worked flawlessly from Lion OS X. Having been with apple since the 3G and now playing with the Android device, you really can appreciate just how much you are restricted with iOS.

Lately, it seems that Samsung gives love to Asia and Europe but lets the US sit on its hands. So while you are correct about their new device- it could be months before we see it here. Now, I got the SGS2 to see if I could switch to android if tmrws keynote turns bad. I think I'llbe able to- as long as I root the phone. Therefore, I'm excited to see what'll happen in Google's keynote next Thursday BC I'll prolly Pick up the nexus prime.

you didn't list

at&t shovelware, sluggishness and malware (android viruses) apps on your cons... that to me is the main reason why android sucks

I'm actually considering the IIs (on ATT) as my next phone. I'm only hesitant because it mean a little more investment to repurchase some Apps. But at least most of the ones I use are available on the platform.

I'll have to play a bit with one in the store before I made that decision. And I'm also not in any hurry to change phones since the iPhone 4 does anything and everything I want and need at the moment.

OK I went this morning and played with the Sammy GS2 for almost 2 hours. I love it. I found it intuitive and the screen was great. I darn near bought it because the store only has 6 but I'm waiting until I see if Apple brings it tomorrow.

Honestly my minimum requirements to stay iPhone went up because I liked the Sammy so much. We'll see tomorrow.

I'm in the same boat with most of you. My friend has the SG2 and I loved playing with it. Sexy device.

If Apple goes full-retard tomorrow, the SG2 will be the choice for me.
