Interesting discussion.

I do not believe in "spirits". I do believe that individuals and even groups of people can "see" and experience supernatural or paranormal activity, but I am convinced that they are psychological constructs, not external phenomena.

I'm not rejecting the existence of the paranormal out of hand, but I have yet to be convinced by any "evidence" I have ever seen.

I've been to places that were purportedly "haunted", including an abandoned insane asylum and a cemetery. It can be scary, but I have never witnessed anything that I thought was supernatural or paranormal.

Regardless, what are you going to do? Hang around or find another place to live that isn't haunted?

I don't want to believe these things are here, but when an RC car with no apparent power source zooms across the room and into somebody...you have to believe it's a phenomenon.

I'm going to stay, nothing can harm me, this isn't the devil, it's just electromagnetic fields or gamma radiation for all I know.

While I agree with that I must confess I did see "something" when I was 11 or 12.

A couple of friends and I were riding our nifty banana seat bikes we found an old house up on a hill that was dilapidated and partially torn down. It was a mansion and had 4 garages.

Well being curious kids we parked our bikes and went inside to look around. All we saw inside was torn down walls and an empty house.

We left through the front door and as we were walking back to our bikes I looked back and up on the second floor I clearly saw a human being standing in the window. He was dressed in a butlers uniform.
Now we went through that house. All over it and saw nothing.

This may have been the active imagination of a 11 year old but I remember it to this day.

When I was about 7, I 'saw' what appeared to be a woman in Victorian era clothes walk the full length of the landing. Imagination I think.

Anyway, I have a few theories;

1. People are hardwired to feel as though they are not alone as some sort of primal mechanism to make children feel safe. Or something to that effect. Perhaps this could also be linked to chemical communication somehow. If this is the case (I'm not saying it is, most likely isn't) then this hardwiring may linger into adulthood for some.
2. Atmospheric conditions.
3. The power of suggestion and group hysteria.

Good idea recording on the Mac too, it's one less thing to worry about, malevolent possession is a Windows only security flaw :D .

I don't know about that, I've noticed that the Finder's eyes follow me...

Um, how come stuff like this is never captured on film?

TRUTH!

People make these outrageous claims that "every time you place a Snicker's bar on this particular bed it magically unwraps itself and disappears, I mean EVERY time!" yet they can't reproduce it in front of a crowd of skeptics or a camera.

That's why I plan to:
A: Film a few balloons in this house
B: Find time to visit the old house and film a few radio controlled toys

Meh, not exactly. The "orbs" and other things like that are usually light refracting or bugs barnstorming.

I've seen 2 things that I can't explain. This black shroud thing appears and morphs legs, then runs away from the camera...yeah it's worth seeing because it's just boggling.

Also when that chair in some attic moved when nobody was in or near that room and there was no way for wind or anything conceivable to have moved it, short of a giant electromagnet.

SRSLY? I always felt like Ghost Hunters was the ONLY serious skeptic-biased and real "paranormal" show on the television set.

Ah Cheeto, you're always good for a few laughs.

Thanks for the entertaining thread......

Oh, and perhaps you should check the carbon monoxide levels in your house.....

but when an RC car with no apparent power source zooms across the room and into somebody...you have to believe it's a phenomenon.

No. No you don't. You don't have to 'believe' anything. This is the fundamental failing in your 'scientific method'. This is where your psychiatric state is coming into play, and trumping reality with it.

It could be rogue RF from another RC transmitter that suddenly triggered the car. It could be a thread from a pair of jeans that got tangled on it and dragged it along and into the back of someones ankle. I've known RC cars with one battery as it's dying, the speed-controller fails 'fast', and of it sets, out of control.

You WANT there to be something anomalistic phenomenon going on, or an array of potential and, to be honest, quite obvious explanations, would have come to mind. That they have not attests to your subconscious motivation here.

Oh, I forgot that radio interference can power a 6v RC car >< silly me.

And the likeliness of that string finding its way under a bed and looping itself around the car and pulling it so fast, I mean it happens EVERY day!

You're reaching far beyond probability just to hide the fact that you CAN'T logically and probably explain how it happened.

Again, all I'm claiming is the facts. A RC car shot across the room, acted as though it was powered, there were NO batteries in the car. Just the facts, enjoy your Rube Goldberg theories ;)

Cats love to play with things. Ever consider that the cat batted it and it went riding across the room ?

Don't get me wrong Lee. I still watch the show "just in case" they actually DO find an authentic sighting. I have yet to see anything that can not be manipulated with off-camera people though.

I keep an open mind however.

Well, anything can be manipulated these days. They just seem like sincere folks who are trying to prove to people how many things can seem like hauntings that actually aren't. I would hope that after 5 seasons and spinoff shows, someone would have come forward to call BS on it if that were the case. Brian Harnois comes to mind. I would think he'd be screaming bloody murder about it after the bad blood when he was booted from the show.

Point proved!!

Have you ever watched "Ghost Hunters Academy". It's the next best thing to a reality show. Really. A trainee gets booted off ?

Who will get released next week ?
Stay tuned and find out.

I've watched some of those shows, including "Ghost Hunters," and where there is "narrative" it always strikes me as very easy to contrive for television, but the rest of it seems to show how much you can achieve just by having a bunch of people standing around saying, "Whoa! Did you hear that? Get that camera over there!" and then jiggling the camera around in low light. They seem to do a lot less showing and a lot more telling people what they are meant to have seen and how spooky it is.

If you want proof of the super natural, just watch an episode or two of Ghost Hunters.

In all seriousness, from the evidence I have been presented through this thread (yes I read the majority of it) I have come to the conclusion that this is a case of a group of gullible people getting together. Too many gullible and paranoid people get together and suddenly a balloon going from one room to another is caused by an evil spirit.

Cheeto, I know you believe yourself (who wouldn't believe their own self?) but please try and realize how ridiculously asinine this whole thing is.
