I just spoke to CPW customer service and was told that they're expecting a delivery either Wednesday or Friday and they don't really expect the Wednesday delivery to happen.

So in other words I can now expect my iphone to be delivered next Monday at the earliest. Wonderful.

The last unsolicited correspondence I had from them was on Friday 11th telling me that it might come on Saturday 12th instead of the 11th. I had to speak to 3 different people before I was told (once they'd confirmed the Saturday delivery) that in fact there wouldn't be a Saturday delivery because I hadn't paid extra for weekend delivery (but... why would I have....oh never mind), but I could pick it up from the city Link depot the next day. Calls on Saturday to City Link revealed that in fact they don't allow this, and in any case there was no record of a pending delivery to my address. A call to CPW revealed (after a worrying 10 minute period where they appeared to have lost my order entirely) that in fact the best I could hope for was a Tuesday delivery. This was extended to Friday "at the latest", in a phone call yesterday. Now it's Monday. Definitely.

I'm not so much irritated by the delay in delivery (it's just a phone after all) as by the continual lack of information, and the questionable veracity of that I have received.

Sorry for the rant, but the gist of what I'm saying is that CPW are rubbish, and not just incompetent, but purposefully so. I imagine somewhere they have a spreadsheet with the expected number of people they think will give up and cancel their orders and the loss in revenue due to that is smaller than the gain from allowing an overabundance of orders and just keeping people in the dark until they can be completed.

I hate to sound like I'm gloating or anything but you guys are having a really bad time of it!

I went to CPW on Friday to get my upgrade from an original iPhone and after much faffing about with untrained salesmen, was told that their computers were unable to upgrade me.

I later went to a CPW at St James's Park and was told "no problem" although they didn't currently have any stock in store and they ordered an iPhone 3G for me to pick up in the store yesterday. They were very frank with me and said that a home delivery was probably going to be more trouble than it's worth

I was very surprised that they were able to do that given the stock problems but despite my initial anger at the incompetence of the staff in Billericay, the CPW St James's Park staff were very helpful and I can have nothing but praise for the way they've dealt with it. Keep the faith!

im confused... you keep switching between weeks....

Sorry. What I meant was until this morning I had been told it was coming on Friday 18th at the latest.

Now I've been told to realistically expect delivery on Monday the 21st, if they get their Friday (18th) shipment.

Edit: I've asked about changing it from a delivery to a store pickup, but apparently once orders are made they are locked.

:,(

Hi,

New to the forum but had to join to comment on this thread.

I'm having the same problem. I rang up on Thursday and was assured that the iphone would be in-store the next day.

Obviously not... the delivery date on the guy's screen said 12th.... I was a little annoyed but was happy that I would get it the next day...

Well you lot know what's coming next... Saturday it was due to come in on Monday, Monday it was due Tuesday. Interestingly CPW has blamed Apple for promising them more stock. He alleged that there were only 8000 handsets available. I said the usual... HOW CAN YOU TAKE MY ORDER IF THEY ARE NOT IN STOCK!!!! but it don't get me anywhere. I rang again today and spoke to a rude woman who didn't give a damn. She seemed fed up of hearing about the iphone, but take it out on your employer not the customers keeping you in a job! I have been guaranteed that every one will get their phone by Friday. I'm very saddened to hear people being told to expect them on the 21st.

What further frustrates me is The money has gone from my bank account £159 and I have apparently passed the credit check. I'm still waiting for an e-mail to tell me when it will be delivered... I haven't even officially been e-mailed to say its been delayed.

Anyway! Thats off my chest. Thanks:)

Ceri

So you ordered on Friday and your phone arrived yesterday in store? I ordered at 11.45 at Fleet Street when the computers were showing over 1200 16gb.

My order is still 'being fulfilled'. The Manager at Clapham Junction told me (this evening) that they had taken 'too many orders' and that my phone has to be fulfilled from the stock arriving on Friday. He tells me that it is up to the Manager at the particular store as to whether he fulfills my order or sells the units to new customers.

Disgraceful. I used to work for CPW but sadly 5 years on, I don't know anyone who can help.

I think i'm exactly the same boat as you, even ordered instore (Islington) at 11:45! They also told me they had over 1200 in stock and my order is still in the 'fulfillment' stage. Fulfilled is the last thing I feel. After various conservations with O2 and CPW customer services today instore and over the phone, i've had estimates from as soon as tomorrow and as far away as next Friday! The amount of misinformation is a joke, it would appear that no-one seems to know anything, what kind of business model are O2/CPW/Apple running???!!!

I've been an O2 Select customer for 8 years and I am livid that a company that I've always been impressed by and happy with has effectively sacrificed the happiness of existing customers in order to drum up as much business as possible from new customers. Thing is, they've got everyone by the balls as they know we can't go anywhere else for the iPhone!

I gave up on CPW and went into work ridiculously early this morning so I could leave early to go the Apple store in Glasgow, where they had LOADS of iPhones (but not the black 16GB). I got a white one and I'm well happy. I'm thoroughly looking forward to phoning CPW tomorrow to cancel my order with them. I've rarely come across a more incompetent company...Apple on the other hand were a dream to deal with today and there were only two people in the queue when I arrived (the one benefit of Scotland only having one Apple store is that hardly anyone seems to have thought to visit it!).

Good luck to you all...

white iPhone

Congratulations waughmeister! But I am surprised - I didn't think the white iPhone was going on sale in the UK... or maybe this is a second shipment?

thats what im doin today, cancelled my order with CPW after it became a farce and im goin to bluewater in about 30min :)

Will that work out OK with your contract - presumably you signed up for another 18 months with 02 when you ordered you new iPhone?

I've cancelled with CPW now. One of the first to order and repeatedly promised the phone, last friday, today, now next friday - I've given up. They've been stringing me along awfully.

It now means I don't know where to get hold of an iPhone but at least I don't have to deal with CPW. Guess I'll have to play the waiting game.

I've related the farce of my story elsewhere on this and other threads: ordered with CPW on Monday 7 July for Friday 11 delivery. Money taken Wednesday 9. A series of broken promises. Still waiting. If I don't get the phone by this Friday 18 (latest "definite delivery date"), I'll cancel. Frustration and anger has now given way to a resigned acceptance of incompetence (but a promise to myself never to use or recommend CPW again).

I note that a number of people have cancelled orders with CPW. Have any of you attempted to claim interest on the purchase cost? It won't work out at much (pennies), but if it makes life worse for them to have to work it out and process it, I figure they deserve it.

In essence, if you can argue that the delivery date was a term of the purchase contract (they certainly seemed eager to guarantee it: "you'll be one of the first to own" etc.), their non-delivery amounts to a breach of contract and entitles you to rescind the contract and be put back in the position you were in before ordering. This includes an amount of interest on the purchase amount which is payable from the date they took your money. The standard rate is 8%. My rough calculations mean that, should I cancel on Friday and they refund me the same day, they owe me 10 days' interest on the £159 purchase price: around 35 pence.

It might seem anal, but it's an entitlement. Given that seemingly hundreds of people are affected by CPW's incompetence, it might amount to something if everyone does it.

Yes I ordered around the same time as you in the end at St James's Park to be delivered to the store (on the advice of the store manager). Mine was the 8GB though.

What seems to me to be part of the problem is that nobody centrally seems to be handling the issue and individual stores and sales staff are making decisions about the allocation of iPhones without knowing the bigger picture in terms of available stock and the likelihood of being able to fulfil those orders within a reasonable timeframe. That to me seems to be pure mismanagement caused by bad planning and a severe underestimation of the demand for a long-awaited 3G Jesus phone.

Congratulations waughmeister! But I am surprised - I didn't think the white iPhone was going on sale in the UK... or maybe this is a second shipment?

I'd heard that too - I think Apple kept all the white ones for themselves...I have no idea why, but that was probably the reason they had so many of them in Glasgow!

I've now cancelled my iPhone order with CPW and the guy on the phone was curiously keen to let me cancel it. At least that's one more iPhone freed up for you guys when CPW get new stock!

I popped into the store I ordered my 16gb from on Friday and the manager said my order that I placed at 8am when I went in store had allocated me a phone and the systems crashed, when he put it through again it was when o2 changed their systems and I had been then allocated one when there were actually none left.

So he said it will be be sent when CPW have more stock which should be at the end of the week and as a sorry a £15 voucher will be issued to me. So he said I should get my iphone at the end of the week or start of next week.

I know this is what has been said by most already but though I would share what was told me today

in stock guarantee

Hey guys,

I've still not had a deliver date  I found this on the CPW webstie that you may like to quote when your contacting them.

I didn't call them today but will tomorrow quoting this

At the Carphone Warehouse, we believe in being totally honest with our customers. That means that when you see an item with the "In stock" badge against it, we guarantee that this item is in stock.

You can still 'back-order' an out of stock item and we will send it to you as soon as it is back in stock. We will also give you regular updates as to when the new stock is due to arrive.

Please note: When comparing our offers to other websites, be careful to check that they mean 'In stock' when they say it. Many websites will happily take your order for an In stock item, only to tell you that the item is not in stock but due in "any day now", and then leave you hanging for weeks on end...

can be found here

That last statment really winds me up! gotta stop reading it :S

Thank you for ordering with Carphone Warehouse Online.

We are happy to tell you that stock of the item that you ordered has now arrived and we have processed your order. It will shortly be dispatched from our warehouse.

:) hoooray!!!!

gonna try and get some knind of good will! Will let you know how I get on!

Update

CPW still haven't responded to my email sent to customer services just over 48 hours ago.

The chaps at Fleet Street on the other hand however, have been more than helpful. It seems that a number of 8gb phones have been sent out but none of the 16gb.

The new promise is that all orders will be fulfilled by Friday 25th July. I have re-emailed CPW asking them (i) to confirm whether that is true (ii) to ask them how they intend to compensate me.
