I haven't heard of that message, the one I still have on my order is:

'Your order contains an item which is out of stock. We will deal with your order as soon as possible.. Your order should have arrived on Mon, 14 Jul 2008."

 thats so crap! I'm pretty shure that 0800 000 000 is not a real number. Just noticed i've got a city link job number. Its not on their system yet...

Hey All!

Sorry for anyone who is still waiting today. I got my iphone 3g today. I pushed the guy who served me for some comp and got £20. I told him I would give him a recomendation apparnetly this gives me a further £5. I'm happy with that.

Hope you all get yours soon!

Cezza!

I went into CPW at 8:30am on the day of the launch and was told they'd sold out of the 16GB Iphones but had loads in stock in the warehouse which they could send out for next day delivery to the store which I could then collect.

I chose to go for this expecting my phone on Monday 14th. Signed all the contract and stuff and left the store with only a sim card ready to go in my new phone.

Chased them Monday (which was a right nightmare which I wont go into now) and was eventually they would have stock on Wednesday.

Eventually spoke to them yesterday and they said they'd still not got stock due to Apple and it was now looking like tomorrow (Friday) or Monday before they'd get it delivered.

Tracking my order online I still just get a message saying they are out of stock and I should have my phone on the 14th.

To top it all off I got home yesterday and have received my first BILL from O2 for £46.50 without even having the phone!

Exactly the same as me, I have the active sim at the moment in my other phone without my iphone. Still on stage 2, I am going to phone again tonight to see what is going on. A lot of people had updates late last night so hopefully the same could happen tonight

Yep, EXACTLY the same situation here too. I ordered a black 16gb on Friday 11th, instore, at 11:30 and told there were over 1,300 in stock and that it would be ready for collection Monday afternoon.

Yet it's still showing as stage two, despite speaking to customer services yesterday and them telling me I'd DEFINITELY have it today (Friday 18th).

But I've just got a letter through the post saying I will have it on or before Friday 25th, three days after I leave to go on a two week holiday around the UK. Great.

Is that the letter saying you'll get £20 CW credit?

I'm off on the 25th... so you have my sympathy!

I've received that letter also. £20 to spend in CPW is a bit of a joke considering I've got a sim here which i can't use and it's going to cost me about £22 in line rental by the time I get the phone.

Do you mean line rental for the iPhone? (Sorry if I'm being dense!)

yeah, I've got the sim card for my iphone, and have had my first bill from O2 for £46.50 which they'll take out of my bank account on the 26th but dating back to the 12th July. I'll have only had my phone 1 day by the time they take the money.

I'm defiantly going to phone up for the free £5 voucher for a 5 minute survey now and tell them what i think 02081277410

Definitely call them (I know that's stating the obvious and you don't really need me to tell you that!) as that sounds like a clerical cock-up... to an otherwise smooth launch :p

I've received the letter about £20 being credited to my CPW account..

I don't have any kind of account with CPW though :-/ Just upgraded and seeing as the contract is direct with o2..

Unless I have to show the letter in store?

I would certainly take the letter in... I would love to say 'what else could go on wrong?' but far from the optimist at the moment! ;)

If you upgraded through CW (which I guess is why you got the letter) as the contract goes via them, you would be on their records as a customer.

I've not actually seen the letter yet, just had it read out to me over the phone but it is worded quite funny, it say's £20 credit to your account to be refunded off your next purchase or something along those lines.

I got impatient with the lies CPW kept spinning me and cancelled.

Then went straight to the Apple store and walked out with a lovely black 16GB

Heres the letter I recieved this morning;

Thank you for ordering the iPhone 3G!

Thank you for ordering the revolutionary iPhone 3G from The Carphone Warehouse.

There has been overwhelming demand for this product and as a result, we have been unable to fulfill the orders placed for this product for all of our customers as quickly as we would have hoped.

This is as disappointing for us as it is for you, particually when it concerns a product as exciting as the new iPhone 3G. However, I can confirm that your iPhone 3G will be either ready for collection in store or that you will be recieveing you iPhone 3G delivery by Friday 25th July.

As your iPhone 3g is arriving later than we initially though, we have, as a gesture of goodwill, credited £20 to your account, which can be redeemed at any Carphone Warehouse store when you make a purchase.

Once again, we are sorry for the delay and hope that you will enjoy using your new iPhone 3G

Thank you for choosing The Carphone Warehouse.

Yours sincerely

Nigel Pearson

Think quite a few of us would have done that if feasible - personally, it would take me about 5 hours to do the round trip with either of the two stores that I can get to most easily... but due to various commitments (sooo many friends getting married... most considerate), the first Saturday I could make such a journey is mid-September! Assuming they have one in stock when I get there...

In any case, considering that Apple has contribted no little part to this fiasco by only confirming to CW that it was only to receive a fraction of the units it had been expecting a couple of weeks before launch and then hasn't been able to or willing to give definite dates (until yesterday or the day before) when CW can expect a decent sized shipment of 16 gig models, I'm not that inclined to move all my custom to the company.

How did you do this? I tried to do this but Apple only allow 1 contract per customer - and I was told at CPW that the order would have to be picked before it could be canceled so It would be jsut as quick to wait. Getting really really angry with CPW now.

But, as a result of my constant nagging I have got (and everyone else should apply for):
REfund of line rental for period of time without phone (circa 16quid)
20quid credit at CPW
15quid refund for sat delivery
+free accessory of choice.

Does not compensate the b+_*s up that they have made of this but better than a slap in the face...maybe

15quid refund for sat delivery

I think - and I stress that I don't know this for sure - that CW, as standard, gives you £5 compensation for a failed Saturday delivery. Certainly, this was being offered last weekend - possibly it's now being incorporated into £20 credit.

I just asked the guy on the phone if I could cancel and he said yes. Got a cancel confirmation email shortly after. Had no problems at the Apple Store because of it.

I appreciate I'm very lucky being in London as I can just walk to the Apple Store. Hope you guys get some stock to you soon.

I went into the CPW where I made the order. They told me they could only cancel it once the order had been picked, which in hindsight may have just been another ploy to keep my custom. I am going to call the CPW now and see if they can cancel it over the phone.

As for the line rental refund I just caused a fuss and said that it was their fault that I have not been able to use my contract and that they owed me a refund.

I live close to 2 apple stores and could go and get one no probs, but the CPW is making my life hell with so many different stories. I guess it serves me right for not going straight to apple. Nevermind, the glory of having a new iphone on the first couple of days has gone now and I am a bit over it all now. I just want a mobile phone now!
