Great post, good story. Really shows how people are on this particular forum that no one even answered the guys question. They just saw a new person to attack. Of all the forums I've been on, this one does seem to have a particularly "bad" bunch for whatever reason.

When people keep spouting words like thievery and morals and all that, they don't really believe that crap. Quite often they just wish they could get away with such things too. Perhaps they tried to exchange a phone because it had a hairline crack but Apple wouldn't do it. Then another person sails in and gets a free replacement on a water damaged phone. Perhaps it's not that someone got away with being dishonest, it's that you weren't able to do so as well?

Here is a story (short version) that I'm sure will get your panties in a bunch and I fully admit I'm partially going to post it just to see the reaction from it.

Few years back when the first iPhone was new, my then fiancee when to Palm Springs for her little bachelorette party. Upon arriving at the hotel they made last minute room changes to get 2 connecting rooms. In one of the new rooms was a gift bag, clearly not meant for them. In it was a brand new iPhone, when they still costed $600 for a 8 gig. They did not turn the phone in. If someone would of came to claim it, they would of done so, but they did not openly try and return it. So when she got back, she had a gift for me that I have enjoyed for the last 2 years. What's more is I've replaced the phone like 4 times via apple due to various (and honest) hardware issues. So an initially found iPhone I've gotten like 4 out of. Back during this time, I wouldn't of bought an iPhone, it was too expensive and missing too many features I wanted. But I sure enjoyed having one for free! That being said, the 3GS finally has become the iPhone I always wanted and I did happily buy it and I do admit it's one of my most favorite gadgets I own.

But anyway regarding my story. How many will now spew about how that was basically stealing and dishonest and how many deep down only wish it had been them who found a phone like that? Let's not pretend our compass points north when we have not had a true temptation to test it.

I would have done the same thing. I am not sure what that is classified as?? However, if the hotel asked for it - it would be handed over period. Since they did not - oh well.

Purposely defrauding someone is another story and that's what takes place when someone trips a sensor and then tries to cover it up to get a replacement when they know full well (they are replacing/covering the tripped sensors) the warranty does not cover something like that.

That - I do not agree with. Pay the 200 and be honest.

I really wish the OP would come back......

I really liked his name:D

I'm going to refrain from raining down on anyone with my moral judgement....because lets be honest, we've all done things that morally we should not have done.....at least I think it is very difficult to get through life and not do anything that would be considered immoral.....

gobblity gook

Ok I wrote a repsonse but got timed out since like I said I'm on my iPhone. The long and short of it is, 80% of our bodies and the world is water. Are we supposed to not use our iPhones near bodies of water, bathrooms, kitchens, rain, sweat and saliva, wet dogs, restiraunts and bars, humid places etc? I think apple should be more upfront about what voids the warranty so we can all treat our iPhones like the Mona Lisa and not like a useful everyday device.

And if you knew your inside dots were white and for some reason they came out and told you they were red you could 1) ask to see it open 2) open it right there and call them on it 3) let everyone know about their practices. In this hypothetical situation. It's not the human component I'm worried about but the corporate element that might compel people to be dishonest about something.

And no, I wasn't looking for a pat on the back just wanted to share my story so if someone was in my situation they can make an informed decision as to which course of action they should take. Sorry I don't get my kicks from attempting to garner praise on a forum.

Maybe we need accidental water damage insurance?

yes to that, but do you listen to what comes out of your mouth? It pisses me off, and I don't give a crap about you.

No need to, you made the case quite well for yourself

It is also good that you have a mate with no values, like yourself. I wouldn't trust either of you, as I am sure that you don't trust each other.
