Here’s What a Facebook Video Ad Looks Like

Some ppl can't piece the obvious together LOL

It's always to their benefits and not ours, in regards to any Facebook update. It's all about pushing as much ads as possible.

Ok but my last point still stands - what do you really think you'll achieve by never updating other than simply being locked out of FB anytime now? Or having a clumsy workaround version of the same ads foisted on your outdated app some other way?

If the ads come and are awful, people will switch off regardless. Chances are they've figured out a way to not make them awful, but we'll see.

To be honest I think by 7.1 a lot of peoples' opinion will change. It'll hopefully be a lot more stable, the animations seem to be faster and they're probably still tweaking other things. I think 7.1 will cause a lot of the non-upgraders to upgrade because at that point there's nothing really worth holding back for if everything else is up to par.

I never considered Fantastical or other calendar apps until I upgraded to iOS 7. I guess designers like Ive doesn't like organisation much.

Well, the calendar app has been improved a bit in iOS 7.1 (at least the latest beta 2).

I really wouldn't be able to tell you the difference. Since ios7 I barely use the double click home button. I feel the card view is useless and takes to much time. I really liked the old way better

Right there with you man

Ver 6.7.2 will have "some" compatible videos ads and 6.8 will have full compatible autoplay video ads. The lower vers of 6.7.1 or lower can't display these ads. A lot of the older ver of the Facebook apps still work from this day.

It doesn't matter if the ads are good or not, it's a waste of resources and bandwidth with the users having an option to option-out.

They've not had such a strong motivation to block older apps before; I think the idea that they'll allow people to resist these ads so easily is naive to be honest.

But again, if they're intolerable then page views will drop and they'll have to scale it back anyway, it won't be the first time that fb have overreached themselves and then had to backtrack due to the user reaction.

And can we stop talking about this as a IOS 7 problem anyway? Auto updating is an option in 7, it's not forced on anyone, and the vast majority of users of 6 and below will be updating themselves manually anyway.

Totally foolish and uneducated, once again you amaze me again with your lack of common sense to piece things together based on your doubtfulness.

If the app doesn't have the right video codecs to display a certain type of video that's streaming over, how is it suppose to work? Just like any hardware, if you don't have the codecs to run Flash, MKV, AVI and etc, it won't work at all and in this case none of the autoplay videos will run.

The automatic updates in iOS 7 is one of the worst features, if Facebook can get away with this kind of stealth updates and many more others will take advantage of this loophole, which many devs had already started rolling out a couple of years ago in iOS 5 with some paid apps.

Not a single person likes ads, especially video ads that's you have zero control over.

PS: None of my post had stated this "feature" was a bug LOL

This afternoon I went to the local Apple store with my sister to get her iPhone 5 replaced as it had a camera issue. The replacement had 6.0.4 on it and I actually played a bit with it before we updated it to 7.0.4. To be honest iOS 6 felt ancient and is really not as fast as people here would have you believe. Plus the icons now look ancient. iOS 7 is great and 7.1 will shut many of the complainers up for good.

My iPhone 5 iOS 7 was replaced with iOS 6...damn

Lol. Just lol. You call me foolish and uneducated and then try to suggest that the previous version of the Facebook app can't play these videos because it doesn't have the right codec? This has nothing to do with codecs; codecs are handled by the OS (which is why no version of Facebook is going to make the Flash files you mention work on IOS for example).

These video ads won't be using any format that isn't already fully supported by your IOS 6 phone; the updated app just downloads them in the background (using wifi only) and knows to make them start silently playing automatically.

The very BEST you can hope for on your older app, for as long as it still works, is for the video thumbnails to still appear throughout your newsfeed but not start themselves. If you're unlucky, they'll figure out a way to embed the video differently at the server end to make them auto play for you too (except perhaps without the courtesy of wifi-only downloads and muting, since those obviously do depend entirely on the app).

Automatic updates are the worst feature of IOS 7? Oh if only there was a way to turn them off. Oh wait, THERE IS - in fact I think they're even off by default, from memory. I wouldn't know as i have them turned on and thoroughly enjoy the convenience of being completely up to date without lifting a finger. That's my choice. And I maintain that clinging on to some rusty old bugridden app out of fear of the new is a pointless exercise which will gain you noting in the long run - I've spent the last five years of iPhone ownership updating all my apps every day and have never once looked back.

How many IOS 6 users will simply click update on this Facebook app to make the red badge go away? The vast majority I would imagine, wouldn't you?

And the real point here? If you've got a problem with what Facebook are doing, TAKE IT UP WITH FACEBOOK. The only way you're really going to avoid is by either not using Facebook, or if Facebook changes their strategy because enough people stop using Facebook - whining on and trying to keep your precious FB while hiding from this is just pathetic. This is a Facebook issue so stop trying to pin this on IOS 7 when it has absolutely nothing to do with Apple or their OS.

How to disable auto-play videos on Facebook for iOS when you’re on 3G or 4G LTE

Doesn't solve the issue, but helps for those who updated.

Good tip. Got to always remember to check out app settings after updates just to make sure nothing changed and see what might have been added.

The truth is also the 3GS was BLAZINGLY fast with iOS 3 and not so much with iOS5 or 6. iOS doesn't follow the OS X pattern where Mavericks or ML both have been WAY faster than Lion in performance.

The price of upgrading your phone to the newest system may be free, but has definitely some caveats attached.

Mavericks and ML are still slower than SL (10.6)

If I were you I'd just jailbreak it and wait until iOS 8 before updating

Really not gonna lie. I'm soooo tempted to upgrade to iOS 7 now. It was only a month, a little less until I felt I wanted iOS 7 back. I'm just holding back for 7.1, but I'm sure once it launches it'll definitely be running on my iPhone 5. Damn!

Um - the person you're replying to just said that they didn't like IOS 6 and already updated to 7 quite happily, so - I don't think they're going to take your sage advice?
