I'm not sure if this is an iOS issue, or a hardware issue either. This was happening while I was on 10.0.1 and now 10.1 beta.

My new iPhone 7 Plus will just randomly shut off when listening to music or doing a random task at any percent. What gives? It just shut off around 61% and booted back to the lock screen without an apple logo. Is anyone else having this issue?

That sounds like a hardware issue. Best restore to a non-beta build and take it to an Apple Store.

Are you using the Apple Leather Case by chance? I found in investigating an issue I thought was Bluetooth related that the new Apple Leather case is slightly wider than the old, and with the aluminum buttons makes it very easy to accidentally reboot the device - because rebooting now is Volume Down + Power; not Home + Power like on older devices.

I have a spot in my car I used to place my 6S+ but with the new case it's just wide enough that when I put the phone in the case in the same spot it reboots after 10 seconds (which is how long you have to press the buttons down to reboot the phone). It took a few times of it doing this for me to figure it out.

I would contact Apple Care. This sounds like an internal hardware issue. iOS 10 is unlikely the cause.

Thanks. I'll revert back now and post results later.

I doubt I'll be able to get it replaced so quickly, this is a Jet Black 256GB Plus model.

I haven't had one reboot on my 7 Plus and I'm running on iOS 10 beta. If a factory reset does not work take it back and get a replacement.

I like how everyone automatically assumed hardware issue... It could be springboardd crashing and setting the device back to the lockscreen, have had this happen to me a few times already as well but not enough to warrant me considering the device as defective. If it was a hardware issue you'd see it go to the apple logo as a HARD reboot.

Whenever I am in iMessage and try to attach or take and send a photo my iPhone will randomly crash and respring. I'm wondering if this is a common issue and if there is a work around or if it's a bug to be fixed in an iOS 10 update.

Been happening on my 7 plus ever since updating to 10.0.2. It was just fine before then.

If you don't see the Apple logo, and you just see the spinning wheel and back to your lock screen then it's what we call a "respring". Resprings are rarely hardware related. At least in my XP of using iPhones for the past 7 + years.

If you see the Apple logo then it can indicate something more serious.

This reminds me of the resprings that cropped up a couple of iOS versions ago. (8.x I think). 9 fixed it.

Results will vary.

I second this notion. If it's just a swirly icon for a few seconds and the lock screen comes back, it means your "springboard" has crashed. Springboard is the application that runs the home screen on iOS devices. Normally is software related, not hardware. Either factory reset and restore or wait for the next update. iOS 10 still has a few bugs.

'15 Golf R - fits like a glove! :D

I reverted to the normal iOS version and restored from an iCloud save. I will post my battery from 100% to 0% as time passes.

Well, last night I reverted to the latest non-beta iOS software version. The phone was doing great! ...Until at 40% my iPhone just crashed opening the photo app. It "respringed", as the black screen and circle animation took place and went back to the lock screen as if nothing happened. WTF?
