You have to type:

[ itunes-purchases ]your user ID[ /itunes-purchases ] with no spaces in between the braces.

Actually, I was just complaining about this too -- but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. If everything is clickable and takes you to where you can buy the song, then obviously Apple doesn't want to open it up to NON-iTunes-purchases -- because that leads to the potential of clicking on songs that maybe AREN'T on iTunes. I personally don't see the problem with having a "that song is not yet available on iTunes" message popping up -- but I can also see why Apple might be worried of that happening too often. The widget won't seem as "smooth" then, and it may make the iTunes store seem limited.

I don't like it, but I get it.

I think it is even more simple that this. The Flash widget only has access to iTMS info. It can't show what you are listening to, because it doesn't know. that would require a whole 'nutha level of integration with iTunes, and a lot of data that some people might consider personal being transmitted to apple.

So, anything you do or write or set in iTMS can be relayed to the widget. But not much else.

I bet they did this in Flash just to keep up good relations with Adobe. I'm sure Adobe felt a little snubbed with the iPhone's lack of Flash support, so now Apple is throwing them a bone. I agree with the above poster who said this makes iPhone browsing more appealing... the web could really do with less Flash-litter, please!

but... from a stock holder's perspective... Way to get more links to iTMS out there Apple! Click on myspacers! and on and on!

iPhone

So now Apple likes Flash?

How are all these widgets and the new .Mac photo gallery stuff supposed to work on my iPhone?

It works pretty neat. Now when you take a picture with the iPhone you can choose a web gallery to upload it to. Very cool. Also, when you select a webgallery to view on your iPhone, it looks alot like the photo section of the iPhone. You can flip through the picture thumbnails, then tap to select a picture to view full size. Very nice.

Do I get some kind of commission for all the songs I'll sell? Like gimme a free song for every 10 someone buys from my list or something.

Brilliant idea!

that would require a whole 'nutha level of integration with iTunes, and a lot of data that some people might consider personal being transmitted to apple.

Ya, that would be goofy. Not sure I'd like that. What if I go on a sudden Journey kick? I don't want people knowing about my sensitive side...

which "user ID" is supposed to go in this tagilne? the MacRumors UserID McPaul? my apple store ID?
-------
awwww nuts!

Now the problem is to work out how to modify my phpBB2 site to use similar kinds of tags.

This is pretty interesting, but Last.fm does it all a lot better.

It reminds me a little of when my friend had some plugin for MSN Messenger that showed what he was playing in Media Player. Much hilarity ensued in the computer lab at uni when we noticed him watching a few 20 second clips of "vivid hardcore" porn, followed by a number of Celine Dion tunes.

Ouch.

EDIT: One of Last.fm's offerings:

sorry.. doesn't seem to work for some people. I threw together the vb tag... so it looks like it's a touch more complicated.

I thought apple store ID, but it's supposed to be the "ID" given in the url string copied from the website. Didn't work for me however. Won't bother with it again. Shame it doesnt work.

....%2Fuserid%3D93323086%2Fx....

For example - you have to put

[itunes-purchases ]3D93323086[/itunes-purchases ]

[itunes-purchases]3D93323086[/itunes-purchases]

... it is kind of neat to see what others have bought. Here's mine:

[itunes-purchases]8538699[/itunes-purchases]

(and yes, I purchased my own music, jido-genshi, only to test it!)

Has anyone found out why some of these are no longer displaying as they did yesterday. When I put this up on the forum (and my website) yesterday, it worked fine and showed all of my purchases, now it gives the message "There is no information from this iTunes Customer to display in this My iTunes widget". That's not good! I tried searching Apple's Forums and Support, but nothing.

Any clues from anyone as it seems it's happening to a few of us here.

It's NOT all purchased based from what I've seen. It gives you a choice to show "Purchased" or "Favorites" or "Reviews" that you have written.

In any case, it is kind of neat to see what others have bought. Here's mine:

[itunes-purchases]8538699[/itunes-purchases]

(and yes, I purchased my own music, jido-genshi, only to test it!)

So it seems like the information is not available when the user is not connected... clever.
Do you know if you must be logged to iTMS or to the website (macrumors in this case) to show your widget (or actually, what's inside)?

Not sure if that is it as I tried testing that by logging on (to the Apple site) and even opening my iTunes, logging on and purchasing something. I'm still logged on (for a couple of hours at least) and nothing...

Very strange and not cool if it's going to be this spotty.
:(

Same. I was logged in and all of the above, and I still didn't get it to work. Won't ever use this - too much hassle!

The frustrating thing for me is mine WAS working! And now it doesn't despite me being logged in and even making a new purchase. That's what doesn't make sense.

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Before I spill some obvious facts, a few comments. We're simply discussing the iTunes widgets here. Simply asking what iTunes is would have been enough. Now on to your comment on Napster...

Don't like iTunes yet? Well, then. Keep enjoying Napster. I'm neither here to convert you nor do I want to. I'm done.

He was just funning you (without the smiley).

It is brilliant. We all analyze so much what Apple does that sometimes I feel we loose the big picture. I do on many occasions...

I developed this iTunes Gadget 8 months ago...

I developed this as a Google Gadget,

http://www.google.com/ig/directory?.../www.captunes.com/google/itunesgadgetmini.xml

And you can just copy the following code to your web page. It is also auto updating as I update the code.

<script src="http://gmodules.com/ig/ifr?url=http://www.captunes.com/google/itunesgadgetmini.xml&synd=open&w=160&h=350&title=iTunes+Gadget+mini&border=http%3A%2F%2Fgmodules.com%2Fig%2Fimages%2F&output=js"></script>
