I've just checked my AppleCare status online, and it says it expires June 25 2011, a year from when they shipped my Mac. Because this is a replacement, the old applecare should overwrite it. My old Mac was bought in Oct 2008, which means AppleCare should expire Oct 2011 for this Mac too, since Apple said they will just transfer it.

It says I'm eligible to purchase and additional 3 years coverage . only thing is, I won't get it at the huge reduction price and I'm not paying full price.

Apple CR should ring today should I ask them to change the coverage to the original, or offer me the reduced one, or ask for 3 years as a goodwill gesture (since they said they will compensate me anyway?) But, I will be selling it in a year, or whenever sandy bridge comes out anyway...

I'd say just ask for the AC as compensation, if they say no, then just take the 1 year warranty from now, and buy AppleCare if/when you need it.

I wonder if they will give me it ad the reduced price (£60ish). I wanted something that I can sell on eBay to buy other stuff TBH... I will see what he says. If they give me the coverage until Oct 2011 (what it should be) I will take than + compensation... Like I said before I will be selling in a year or so, so at least then the buyer will have a few months left.

Apple just called me. The offered me an iPod shuffle:rolleyes: or Magic Mouse. I asked for a Wireless keyboard, which is the same value of the Magic Mouse and they are sending me it.

I asked about AppleCare and they will change it to Oct 2011...

I guess I got a good deal. £160 processor upgrade and a £55 Keyboard + the latest Mac. Overall I'm happy with the outcome :)

Haha I'm glad they finally came to their senses, that's the good thing about getting mucked around - you get free stuff!!

Goodluck with the new Mac, hope it turns out ok :)

Yep, I finally got there!

The Mac is running perfectly,I haven't had any problems with it so far.

Thank you all for reading my thread and giving my input I'm sure many people will learn from this!

^^ woohoo! no overheating? must have been a dud :(

goodluck with it all :D

I'm on 10.6.3 ;)

No overheating issues at all. The MAX is has reached is 60C . Even when installing CS5 AND running the graphics intensive program

And it starts us very very quiet compared to the older model and starts at least 30% faster...

Slightly off topic but do you know if installed Parallels (?) could I have Mac OS X on an external display and windows 7 on the Mac display? Could I run CPU intense programs on both windows and Mac platforms simultaneously or would it crash ?

Thank You

Hi mate,

I'm a graphic designer/photographer and have the same system by the looks of it.

Having read the first 4 pages of your thread, I was cringing for you! What a horrible situation! I was almost hesitant to read the last page, but very happy for your outcome. Good result that, finally!

I was very concerned about the heat my new MBP 17" i7 was kicking out, I was like "how on earth can this heat be good for components?" and I've been on and off the internet ever since trying to find some sort of reassurance.

Having read your thread, I've found istat pro (thank you thank you!) and was so relieved to see my CPU running at around the 49 degree mark.It does get noticably hotter than this (on my lap!) but not a great deal more, when using cs5 etc, so ill be sure to keep an eye on things but I feel so much happier now I know what I'm looking for!

Yours was a long story, but well worth the read so thanks!

My replacement (i7) actually runs cooler than my core2duo ever did! Again, it hasn't exceeded 60C yet, bearing in mind it's on a Mstand anyway...

The whole 6 weeks have been a very stressful time, I honestly didn't think that it would get resolved as the Apple tests came out clear, even though it was still 106C, and Apple kept reassuring me that the unit was 'working fine'. (but it really was not!)

I'm so pleased that I got a replacement though, I couldn't deal with the performance (or not) that my old unit had, maybe due to the heat it was subject to...

It's very reassuring that you can find out what the temps are though. I look at mine almost on a daily basis, particularly when running software I haven't sued before (Cinema4D etc.) to see how the CPU/GPU is dealing with it.

Overall I have a very nice machine here, I'm saddened that it took so long and the service was poor but in the end it was all worth it :). I can't imagine many other companies doing this i.e upgrading the CPU and giving me free Apple hardware, but I guess you pay for it...

Another nathan :)

Its totally reassuring! I honestly thought that the temp mine was running at, was hot enough to fry eggs!

I'm very happy to report - its isnt!

What does photoshop run at on yours out of interest (CS5) it would be interesting to compare given we have the same computers.

Might be good to do a test comparison, dont run anything else and just work on a fairly large file for 20 minutes or so

If you have any spare time this wkend, sned me a private message and I'd be happy to

Cheers!

Sure, I could probably do a photomerge today or something and report what the temps were... Photomerge on the C2D either made it crash or had temps around 85C

ok cool (pardon pun!)

dont go to any trouble, but it would be interesting to compare. I'll do a test on a 24mb raw photo, some editing and scaling, then some blends with two other images, Ill report back asap

Cheers!
