I got three receipts. One for the back to school rebate, one for my records, and one emailed to me. I was pretty impressed by the last one. Is this something done at other Apple stores as well?

As for the OP's lost/stolen receipt, it's no big deal. Just go back to the store and get it. If you have problems at that point, then you can entertain conspiracy theories involving ninjas, tax loopholes, and criminal employees.

OK guys, I think he gets the message! :D

For the OP though, I would suggest going into Argos when its quiet so they can help you properly, as looking through a till journal and looking for a single transaction can take some time and effort. Going in when its crazy busy wouldn't help the staff, their customers or even yourself for that matter but don't go wagging your finger with false accusations as again it helps no one.

Also, with the huge cutbacks the police force are facing, I'd doubt very much they'd do anything over a reported lost receipt.

Neither going in like crazy lol

I just drove by Argos and some guy is camping right outside the front door. I thought maybe Apple was releasing a new product or something but then I remembered about the guy who lost his receipt.

I have been sitting here for a couple minutes trying to think of something to add, but I've got nothin'. Really, I just wanted to post in the thread so that it's easier to see when I'm scanning for it later on to find out what the outcome is.

Ah, hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

Still, I'm wondering; am I the only one who thinks that the OP may secretly be last weekend's 'rapture guy'? Harry Camping, is that you?

I get the same vibe, lol. I know it's silly and there's no chance he's gonna be right about the outcome. But, still I can't help but wonder "What if?":eek::eek:

I don't get paper receipts at my local Apple Store. They're all emailed. I think it's funny that I can walk out of an Apple place with a $2600 laptop in my hand and no receipt and no one says anything. But when I walk out of Home Depot with a box of light bulbs I have to be inspected.

It's well into the day in the OP's time zone. Where's the update? Maybe he found the receipt under a bag of crisps on the floor of his Ford Prefect.

Yeah, I love that too. Apple does employ Loss Prevention personnel, however, during the busier times at least. My brother works for an Apple Store and told me that over the holidays, their loss prevention officer saw a kid steal two Apple TV's from a stack, waited for him to actually leave the store (since of course they're not technically stolen until he leaves with them), and then chased the kid down and dragged him back into the store. He then proceeded to force the kid to loudly apologize to the entire store, before taking back the merchandise and sending him running from the store. The kid never came back.

ok so today i purchased a macbook pro from argos, the lady was putting my cardboard boxed macbook in two bags, she then looked at me and said the reciept is in bag,

I assume you mean it was double bagged. Maybe she thought she put it in the inside bag and actually put it in the outside bag, effectively putting the elusive receipt between the two bags.

I'm panicked now. No update from the OP.

I wonder if my missing Apple sticker was stolen by the same person. I am feeling a conspiracy here.

That's awesome. I'm sure that kid will never steal anything ever again. Lessons like that tend to stick with a person, I think.

What?!?!?  Am I missing something? You didn't take the time & effort to check that the receipt is indeed in the bag when you accepted it in the store & the receipt might have been misplaced by the salesperson (a likely honest mistake IMHO), but you just want to push all the blame to the salesperson & get her fired?!?!?

Your signature is wrong. Just sayin'.

OP should have posted an update by now, it was probably a misunderstanding lol.

Unfortunately this is changing at lots of malls. Now people are suing stores when they are accused of stealing. My fiance used to work at a store in our local mall. The company that managed the mall had a policy that nothing could be done about thieves. Even if the store had a video of the person literally taking things and leaving the store. She said people would come in all the time to "try things on", enter the dressing room and leave with stuff. If they confronted the guest they would fired on the spot.

It's an insane policy. I could literally walk into any store in the mall here, grab something in front of an employee and walk out with zero repercussions.

Our society is f*cked with policies like that.

Reminds me a lot of this thread:

What is it lately with overreactive jackasses that think they're entitled to get somebody fired for something they only presume and not prove? Especially going as low as insulting the looks of the employee, like has happened in both the topic I linked as well as this one. It seems more like the OP has no idea what has happened to the receipt, so they're trying to find some sort of way to rationalise their frustration. Do you honestly think that an employee in a computer store is going to risk stealing your receipt and money, as well as jeopardising their job, employer trust and criminal history? And, of all things, using an Apple computer to do it? If she works there then she obviously understands that the amount that resellers actually earn on Apple products is virtually nothing, as being a reseller means you have to stick to Apple's pricing (so you can't undercut pricing of other resellers and - most importantly - of the Apple Stores themselves). Basically, if she did something like this with an Apple product, somebody would obviously realise it.

But hey, why am I bothering... you actually think someone is capable of disabling your computer just because they have the receipt, so you clearly don't know what you're talking about. And if you think that you're going to be able to get somebody fired based on mere assumptions then that is just as pathetic - if you honestly believe someone is going to get fired just for misplacing a receipt, or forgetting to put it in the bag, or for a mistake where it may have fallen out of your bag when you had already left the store, then I'm not going to have any hope for this world anymore; no one will be able to hold any kind of job if people think it's reasonable to try and get someone fired over something so trivial.

OP she was keeping the receipt! She is going to give it to the government, along with the money you paid with. They are going to use it to track your scent. You have something they want!

Scan your home for camera and microphone bugs. There's a good chance they have one in your new Mac too...if you send it to me I'll clean it out.

You can never be too paranoid!
