Such BS, so i finally made the call to get another of my issues fixed while explaining to the specialist that my right fan's bearings are going because compared to the left, which is the sound of fans whirling along, the right has a distinguished ticking sound at any rpm.

The specialist, Chris, insists that it is "normal" behavior. So I tell him again that the sound is really bothersome and obnoxious. Again, he refers to it as "normal" behavior. He noted on the dispatch work order to have the tech look at it, but I'm certainly calling tomorrow and playing the video clip for the rep so he/she can note it for replacement, and nothing less.

OMG, that sounds like blender! Surely, they replaced that... right?

C2D MBP, and Firmware

Has any one put the new firmware on the MBP while running smcfancontrol? I guessing nothing bad will happen but I Like mt new temps too much to risk it.

Also anyone with a C2D MBP or MB could you post temps?

I've been using Fan Control for the last few weeks, and although it is awesome, it shows that only my left fan is working... my right fan shows -1 RPM. What's wrong?

I've noticed the same problem with my white macbook - I tried using smcFanControl, and the slider for my right fan was disabled, and never ever lit up or became usable or anything. Do recentgrad and I just both have bum fans, or what? And if we do, how do we go about telling Apple how we figured out that our fans had problems?

I would say probably, yeah. You might try going a wee bit lower - maybe 2300 instead of 2600? - and seeing if that does the job for you. I don't know for sure if it would wear out your processor going as high as 2600 in the long run, but I'd probably lower the speed a bit just to be safe ;)

their isn't really any data to say if faster speeds are harmful, probably yes. whether it's significant, probably not.

just a note:
I run my fans at 3500 and have for 2 months.

I'm pretty sure MacBooks only have one fan, which is why the second fan is disabled in smcFanControl.

Hmm i cant seem to get this program to work with my MBP. when ever i click on it it seem to de-click itself so i can never change anything or enter my password.

also i take it is not normal for the temp to be at 88c or 184F when idle right?

yes thats bad. make sure nothing is blocking the back vents and try raising it in the back. Thats weird what kind of mbp do you have?

the vent are clear, etc.
the kind of MBP i have is a broken one which shocks me alot.

I notice that it seem to go through periods of very high temp e.g. 80c+ and then drop of to around 60c. Both happen at idle times.

And the fans dont kick in at either point - yet they are working because the blow like mad during startup.

you didn't use my early methods by any chance did you?

edit: and if it shocks you, call up apple. This is bad. Demand a new laptop.

Sounds handy, wonder if it'll work safely on my MB, then again, I have no idea what Im doing when it comes to that stuff XD

Big thanks!

Rokem,

Thanks SO MUCH for putting this script together. I have been using a iLap from Rain design (which works well but...) for the past 6 months or so, and stumbled across your post and now I can put the computer directly on my lap again, running at around body temp!

Happy Holidays to me!

after reading all 12 pages...seems like Fan Control 1.1 is the better
app to use. but what settings are u guys using on this app? some screen
print pictures would be awesome of your Fan Control 1.1 settings.

Could someone please post originals?

Hey, I downloaded SMC fan control....it seems to work fine, without changing system settings. Could someone please post the original contents of the Appleblower and Applefan files? I want to make sure I got them back to their original condition.

Thanks-

Mike

SMC fancontrol

hi all, im new here,
just thought id let u guys that are nervous about the fan control...
my friend has smc fancontrol it on his MBP 15" coreduo...

is's a nice program
site from google:

http://81.169.182.62/~eidac/software/page5/page5.html

as of now it is still ONLY INTEL PROCESSORS. NO PPC :(
!I AM NOT RESPONSEABLE FOR ANY UNLIKEY DAMAGE TO COMPUTERS!

Everyone questioning if it's bad for the fans to run at a higher RPM.

Faster speed is obviously going to cause more wear on the bearings. How much so is the question. So yes.. a higher RPM will most likely shorten the fans potential life span.

You would need to inquire with the manufaturer for its optimum RPM rating.

And now, for something completly diferent:

Cool down your mac laptop

Well i had no solution but this today so i felt like sharing :p

by the way my iBook keeps getting those random shutdowns since it came from RMA. Any solution? besides send it again to RMa saying it was their fault.
