Judging from the nature of the error, its likely to be a USB fault not a device fault. Do you have access to a USB 1.0 PC? Have you tried new USB drivers? Try motherboard specific usb drivers, i've had issues with my usb ports until i installed original drivers.

Hope it helps, I really doubt its a device fault.

I've tried it on three different PC's as well as my Macbook, I know it's not a usb fault. :(

ya i would try as many different computers as possible. its unlikely that the device is broken

Rachel,

If the phone won't restore from DFU mode (and yeah, you are doing it properly from the vid), and it isn't a USB/computer error (since you tried multiple machines), then the phone is simply fubared. Sadly, you are unlucky enough to have it fubared with the custom graphics on it...

Last resort is trying an iTunes 7.5 install which some claim helps, but otherwise the phone is dead.

Probably not even pwnage related since it just happened out of nowhere a couple of days after you pwned, right?

Bad luck, it happens to us all.

As for money for a new phone: you are a girl. You have a sweet voice. Just put up a video or website asking for 1$ donations and tell your sad sad story and how it broke your heart. You'll have the money towards a new phone in 1 day...

Leah Culver did that and got a new MacBook.

I am serious. You are woman in a sea of male geeks. Use it to your advantage :)

"Please help me buy a new phone, this is me crying over my broken one... send 1$ to this PayPal account."

Yeah but Leah Culver did it to "sell advertising" on her macbook.

I'm just someone with the ********* luck ever. haha.

A week after I got my xbox 360 it RROD'd itself. ;_;

I should just demand the next 599 people that read this thread paypal me a dollar. hahaha.

I don't know if this will help you in any way, but sometimes on my 1st gen iPhone running 1.1.4 jailbroken, it would get stuck at the Apple boot logo. Nothing would make it go away, but I could ssh into my phone and run the reboot command. It would reboot and startup normally.

I have not yet had this happen to me on my jailbroken iPhone 3G, but maybe you should try it, if you have ssh installed. You gotta know the IP address of your phone already.. if you don't, you may be able to find it in your router's configuration pages somewhere because routers usually keep a list of IP addresses they give out via DHCP.

Just a thought.

Have you contacted the Dev Team? They have probably seen all possible scenarios and could learn from your own experience. You tried restoring from the Custom Firmware? Find the Vanilla 2.0 Custom and use that for Restore.

I can't do SSH without a wireless connection, I can't even get to the main screen.

Yeah I went into the irc chat the night it happened. I can try again though.

I tried restoring using the custom firmware, yes.

What is the vanilla 2.0 custom?

I think he meant Vanilla 2.0 which is what you've been using. Original firmware.

If you PWN your phone again with Pwnage or WinPwn did that helped?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and have been reading the thread. Sorry to hear about the troubles...

I've recently found a site that details how to pwn the iphone (not sure about 3G) with 2.0 firmware on a Windows based machine.

It's called XPWN Guide for Windows http://geeb.zifnet.us/XPWN%20Guide%20for%20Windows.html

Reading through it, the procedure requires the use of command line-based utilities.

What caught my eye is the following:

Part 2 : dfu-util

dfu-util is an utility that allows the execution of our unsigned code.

YOU MUST COMPLETELY DISABLE iTUNES WITH TASK MANAGER OR EQUIVALENT BEFORE PROCEEDING.

Only AFTERWARDS do you put your device into DFU mode. If you switch the order of these steps, iTunes will be able to load software onto your device without this vulnerability, rendering dfu-util useless.

Start Task Manager (Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and right click on ANY task with Apple, Ipod, or iTunes in the name and end the process:

AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe

AppleSyncNotifier.exe

iPodService.exe

iTunes.exe

iTunesHelper.exe

Plug your iPhone/iPod into the computer.

Shut down the device in the normal way if necessary (Slide to shutdown).

I don't know if this will help or not, but it seeing as how everything else has been tried with no luck, I thought this won't hurt either.

Good luck!

... I just read through the page again and it looks like 3G iPhones are supported. :)

Have you tried another iPod cable? Maybe the one you've got is messed up.

I know that this is probably the dumbest suggestion yet, but considering the situation, we're all running out of ideas.

Yeah I tried my roommate's iPhone cable and same thing.

Nah, it's ok. I can hear inane ramblings from other females for free, thanks. ;)

yes because I am being totally inane.

If you take your faulty Iphone back to where you bought it, they will know you Jailbroke it when they turn it on, so no refund etc.
Remove or reverse the battery, they turn it on, no power, new phone.
Apple can afford for one or two to get through the system lol.
Only a thought better than a brick.

While the removing the battery idea is dumb ( sorry )... I kind of thought that a good electrical overload might not be a bad idea.. try to fry it if you can.

I feel really bad for you in your situation. I think that could easily have happened to a lot of us. Because of your story I have now restored my iphone and jailbroken it again unchecking the custom logos. So I at least thank you for sharing. It really is sounding like it's a bad phone you got so it probably is worth looking at the other options... Have you any insurance policies, either home contents or phone specific that would cover accidental damage if, heaven forbid, your phone got accidentally put in the washing machine or similar?

Im glad my story could help someone out! Yeah, it does sound like I have a bad phone, it really sucks. When I get another one I definitely won't be jailbreaking it.

Luckily, I have friends in high enough places that the jailbroke phone isn't an issue... and I'm going into an apple store tonight and a friend is going go "fix" everything for me.... hopefully.

I'll be back later on tonight to let you all know how this ridiculous saga is going to end.

Thanks to everyone that's been seriously nice and helpful.

I already thought of magnetizing and microwaving.

I am not going to do it though haha

Hey there,

Just a word of warning; your vimeo link had your name on it. If Apple were so inclined they could very easily look up your account and find out what genius served you at the Apple store; it's likely he or she would get into trouble.

Perhaps I'm being paranoid but beware your online presence!

Incidentally, I'm sure there must be a way to completely format the iphone, wipe it clean.

But I don't want it to be jailbroken anymore. I want the regular firmware back. :(

Please Mr. Wizard... I don't want to be a hacker no more!
