NAB: Final Cut Server, Final Cut Studio 2, ProRes 422, IO-HD

Very worthwhile FCS 2 upgrade. $499 from FCS1 and $699 from any version of FCP all the way back to the beginning so no penalty for doing the FCP to FCS upgrade for $199 and everyone who missed it can now jump to FCS2 for only $699 which is really great for all who missed the $199 deal during this past year which did not include FCP 1, 2 & 3.

Only Academic 4 owners who didn't upgrade to FCS1 lost this time as they can only buy FCS2 for $699 academic and not get commercial FCS2 for $499 like those who did.

It's nice to see Apple's still on its toes and still very much on its game of bringing great concepts to reality. I can't wait to get my hands on the new hardware AND software.

No one said they did, but to put people down because they hoped for hardware is absurd given the fact they HAVE introduced hardware before.

Now hoping for an ipod or imac etc is a little out of line.

Yes that's true. It's just sometimes a bit frustrating because Apple will use certain events to announce new product but that's usually a one time deal (a la WWDC having new Apple Cinema Displays)

Doesn't DVD SP 4 NOT Support Blu-ray®?

At least not until they support Blu-ray®. I think right now DVD SP4 only supports HD-DVD right?

This makes me want to wait for the Blu-ray® support DVD SP 5 shoe to drop later this year I hope.

Why are they not adding a Blu-ray® optional DVD writer to their Mac Pro configure page? I know we can get them ourselves. But this is crazy not offering it. Maybe they have a price they want to pay/sell them for before they pull the trigger.

Come on guys, watch the feed from Engadget.
It is STILL going on, and they are talking an App called Color right now, for color correcting and recolorizing.

Yeah but the store is already up. If there had been Logic 8 it would have been in the store now.

Looks like we will get a QT update soon.

Minimum system requirements to install all Final Cut Studio applications

• A Macintosh computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, or Intel Xeon processor.
• 1GB of RAM
• An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
• A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
• Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later
• QuickTime 7.1.6 or later
• A DVD drive for installation

new displays?

Will come when they are ready. Chances are Apple is looking at LED backlighting and at the minimum need HDCP support before they call fully support HD DVD and Blu-ray.

Samsung has a 24" panel coming in the summer as one of the first. Right now would have been too early if Apple is indeed looking at LED lighting.

No, it only supports DVD although you can make a high def DVD (NOT HD DVD) that plays only in Macs.

Incorrect in some ways. You can burn HD content to DVD-r that does indeed play fine in a Toshiba HD DVD player or on Tiger Macs with DVD Player 4.6

It has been confirmed that they play in the Toshiba HD-DVD players as well. It looks to essentially be an HD-DVD on a red laser dvd disc.

So the NAB conference is still going??

It starts tomorrow Antonwalker. We'll have more cool stuff coming. Maybe not from Apple but lots of other companies like Adobe, Avid, Red Giant and more. Red the hottest camera for Indies on the planet as a booth next to Apple.

Stay tuned...we're just getting started.

Any notes of a stream of the event being posted later? I have seen people track down the URL for that in the past if there is going to be one. I would love to see some demos of this awesome stuff.

Lame, lame, lame. I was hoping for a complete re-do of audio editing in FCS. As is, it looks like you still have to use ProTools. Sigh, Vegas is better in that department :(

Apple: FCP 6 was supposed to be a complete re-do of FCP 5, considering that they've been cruising with very minor improvements since FCP 4.0.

I work with FCP, and I guess my expectations were higher for 6. The fact that DVDSP was left untouched is also lame. How are you supposed to take advantage of all that HD handling if your output capabilities still suck? I thought the Sony execs were there to help with BR for DVDSP.

Oh well. Maybe my expectations were too high. So far, I don't feel they've delivered the revolution 6 was supposed to be. Lamo.
