What is 4:2:2 aspect ratio?

It's not an aspect ratio. 4:2:2 is how the luminance and color is handled with video. Regular DV is 4:1:1 meaning that you have 4 pixels of luminance for every 1 and 1 color sample. Basically it means that there is four times the infromation in the luminance (brightness) of the pixel than the actual color. 4:2:2 is only twice as much info so you get better color information. Much better for things like green screening.

Academic Question for Multimedia

Very worthwhile FCS 2 upgrade. $499 from FCS1 and $699 from any version of FCP all the way back to the beginning so no penalty for doing the FCP to FCS upgrade for $199 and everyone who missed it can now jump to FCS2 for only $699 which is really great for all who missed the $199 deal during this past year which did not include FCP 1, 2 & 3.

Only Academic 4 owners who didn't upgrade to FCS1 lost this time as they can only buy FCS2 for $699 academic and not get commercial FCS2 for $499 like those who did.

I purchased the academic Final Cut Studio in January. Are you saying I can buy the $499 upgrade (when I decide to upgrade later this year or next)?

... and no sign of Logic Pro. That sucks.

Did you SERIOUSLY expect an announcement of Logic Pro 8 (or whatever it may be called) at NAB?????? Especially after the "Lights, Camera, Action" intro??

It never fails to amaze me what some of the posters here at this site seem to expect from Apple...!

From the Apple Store...

* The upgrade version requires a valid serial number from a commercial version of Final Cut Studio, Production Suite, or Final Cut Pro 1, 2, 3, or 4. Academic and not-for-resale versions are not eligible for this upgrade.

They really won't honor Academic versions for this upgrade?

That doesn't mean they do it every year.

No one said they did, but to put people down because they hoped for hardware is absurd given the fact they HAVE introduced hardware before.

Now hoping for an ipod or imac etc is a little out of line.

It annoys me that there wasn't a DVD Studio Pro update announced. I spend more time in DVD SP than in any other FCS app.

My guess is that DVD SP 5 may come later and could be Leopard only for HDCP reasons.

I thought Logic Pro 8 might come as well but clearly it isn't ready. Soundtrack Pro 2 will give us some hints as to where LP8 can go.

We haven't seen anything yet. Leopard will bring us even more features probably in a point release in the fall.

Come on guys, watch the feed from Engadget.
It is STILL going on, and they are talking an App called Color right now, for color correcting and recolorizing.
