Wow!!!

I just realized that Final Cut Studio 2 includes "Color" the product Apple acquired from Silicon Color called Final Touch.

Folks this was over $5k for the SD version. BIG NEWS

Yeah, and movies are called FILMS and actually exist on iTunes... :)

LOL! ... Er, not actually funny at all..

Pretty sad really...

ALSO, I notice that all this nice new FCS goodness is only on the US site, again, not unlike the recent announcements.

Second class citizens again, these days, outside the US...

Sigh...

Are you serious? I thought it was only 62 gigs?

Either way its going to fill up my MBP.

Apple Website said:
Available Disk Space
4GB of disk space required to install all applications (Final Cut Pro, Color, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Motion, Cinema Tools, LiveType, Compressor, and Apple Qmaster)
Additional 55GB required to install all optional templates, content, and tutorials (may be installed on separate disks):
9GB for DVD Studio Pro content
8GB for Motion templates and tutorial media
24GB for Soundtrack Pro audio content
12GB for LiveFonts and LiveType animated elements and templates
2GB for Apple Pro Training Final Cut Studio Tutorials media
Either way, disk hog. I certainly wouldn't install the entire studio on my MBP, but on a Mac Pro or iMac, certainly.

I'm impressed with the few snippets I've read here thus far, but nothing appears to be unexpected and there are still some crucial features missing. Roll on FCP 6.1

New Displays

Will come when they are ready. Chances are Apple is looking at LED backlighting and at the minimum need HDCP support before they call fully support HD DVD and Blu-ray.

Samsung has a 24" panel coming in the summer as one of the first. Right now would have been too early if Apple is indeed looking at LED lighting.

Yes, I suspect Apple is working on achieving SWOP certification for the newer technology LED and Wide Gamut Displays. The panels that are out now have widely variable gamuts and gradiations between colors due to the lack of finely tuned internal LUT's for both Print and Broadcast work.

I am pretty confident Apple knows it would be Display Suicide for them to rush out a Wide Gumut or LED display without SWOP certification. Professionals to whom this matters would abandon these displays in a hurry, choosing EIZO's or existing ACD's instead.

I don't know many broadcasters that would work solely on a laptop either. They'd most likely have Mac Pros, and farm out rendering to Xserves or something.

How on earth is this possible?!

Can someone in industry explain the significance of the IO-HD and ProRes 422 format?

Are these revolutionary things or just Apple's entry into an existing market?

This is the reason why Avid has been the market leader. There's no reason why anyone should be shocked at FCP adding these features, as they have been in Avid for many years now. Take a look at Avid's codec "DNxHD" which does the same thing. I hope that FCP's ProREs is very robust.

External HD for the content and you're all set.

Not quite.
• An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)

The MB has the integrated Intel graphics processor so it isn't supported. It will run on the MBP.

Sorry, calculator malfunction!

* 4GB of disk space required to install all applications
* • Additional 62GB required to install all optional templates, content, and tutorials (may be installed on separate disks):
* - 9GB for DVD Studio Pro content
* - 9GB for Motion templates and tutorial media

* - 12GB for LiveFonts and LiveType animated elements and templates
* - 8GB for Apple Pro Training Final Cut Studio Tutorials media

Total 128Gb!

Still a lot though:rolleyes:

My god this is awesome. Finally they introduced 3D into Motion, that was the only real thing keeping me with After Effects. Now if I can get all the Trapcode plugins (i.e. Shine, Starglow, 3D Stroke). I am definitely going to upgrade. Although since this is Apple's first implementation of 3D Cameras, lights, etc. I might still get the new After Effects as a backup.

It's a tv broadcasters event. This is definitely not the event for Apple to serve up their own agenda.

None of the things you mention were announced because broadcasters don't care about them.

The breakdowns encapsulate the 62GB so its still 66 total. 62 for all the content and 4 for the apps.
