My other half had it in a leather slip case, banged it on the bus and it looks like a bullet hole in it. She is on my account and I have insurance on all iPhone lines so all is well but she still owes me £25 ;)

I have a contour case, and it's a tad too bulky for me. I couldn't see myself going naked with it. It spends nearly all of its time outside of my pocket, though I haven't dropped it yet, I just feel its too susceptible to being damaged.

I'd go naked on mine if State Farm still offered insurance on cellphones.

But since they don't and I can't afford to buy one full price, I put a case on it cause I really can't afford not to. I'd be upset even if I had to go to a 3GS (which is still a step up from the 3G I had) but I am not sure I could even afford one of those at this moment. And I'd be really really upset if I had to go back to a 3G :(.

And honestly, so far I'm very glad I put a case on it (a basic 20 dollar silicone one but it works and does not add too much bulk and looks better than the more elaborate cases imho) cause I have dropped it a few times, not a scratch. (I know myself, I *will* drop my phone. I am careful with my phone, but things happen).

If you like your iPhone naked get a incase snap case it's basically as good as having it naked

Check out SquareTrade they offer a pretty good insurance policy for a whole range of products including the iPhone 4. They have a sale going on for two years of coverage for 99.99.

Its not worth the hassle to *not* get a case in your situation. I would get a case if I were you, so don't feel bad about it. I have a case on my 3GS but take it off occasionally.

Honestly, I'd rather use a case than go through all that insurance stuff. Or I'd rather deal with the phone the way it is. I don't think I would drop the phone though

I had been going naked (With the exception of the leather skin back from SGP) for a while before having my phone slip off the table and getting all scratched up the screen and a small minor crack on the screen (not terrible, but it was cracked).

Luckily the Apple store near me is full of extremely nice and helpful individuals and they replaced my phone (at no cost). Now I have a clear screen protector for the back, the SGP leather back over that, a SGP bumper, and a ZAGG screen protector (hate it, ordering a SGP one soon). When I order the screen cover for the front from SGP I'll probably order one of those full sets that covers the antenna, back, and screen as well.

So, no naked for me anymore. Not worth the risk, plus the SGP bumpers look nice.

I have and I have done the math and it honestly isn't worth it. Especially if it is true that if you bring in the busted iPhone that Apple just charges you 200 for a refurb.

State Farm offered for 50 dollars a year full replacement value that also covered *theft*. Squaretrade's offer really isn't as great as people think if they do the math (and realize that Apple will give them a refurb for 200 to "fix" their broken phone). So you end up paying 150 dollars for the two years (the 100 - on discount - for the two year plan plus the 50 dollar deductable) whether you use it or not. Vs. 200 if you do break your phone and have apple "repair" it. 50 dollars is not worth throwing 100 dollars down the drain if I don't use the warranty.

State Farm's was a better risk to cost ratio honestly plus they covered theft and loss as well.

Don't know, never had to use it (I had it on my old iphone). Personally, I liked the peace of mind and I didn't try to abuse my old iphone just cause I knew it was insured (I didn't want to actually have to use it, I figure it's probably a one time deal that they wouldn't insure me again if I used it). But it was a nice "backup" just in case.

Plus... a case won't save you if the phone gets stolen. State Farm would have ;). And a case won't always save you if you drop your phone either. I'd rather have the option of doing the paperwork and going through all the insurance stuff in case something did happen.

naked.

i'm also on my 4th iPhone due to accidents. besides, unlike most other manufacturers that require you to replace the device at your cost, Apple charges only $200 for an Out Of Warranty replacement.

That's because they charge so much Apple Tax on their laptops, and have such massive cash reserves, they can easily afford to replace it for $200.
