What a complete and utter vile aberration.

I would throw a fit if someone did that to my BadBoy.

I would throw a fit if someone called my laptop a BadBoy.

OP: Looks kinda nice in theory, but do finish it up so we can see something that isn't so rough :p

Zing!

it just occured to me, that it would look REALLY cool if everything was smoth, but the palmrest on either side of the track pad were swirls, i think i would look awesome

It looks like you took one of the most appealing aspects of a MBP and found a way to turn it into a weak point. But hey, at least you're not bored anymore.

Ruined. One day you will wake up and look at it, thinking to yourself, why the hell did I do that?

Um, you guys realize that it's a work-in-progress, right?

It's like making a final judgement on a Ferrari before they've finished assembling it and painting it.

Once the OP finally finishes it, I bet it'll look awesome.

And shambo..... BadBoy Pro...... so lame......

right! come on, get it finished....

i think when you polish it up its gonna look well smart. you could try the brushed look??

come on get a polished pic up ASAP :)

Why? I think the OP's naked MacBook look rather charming and unique. It's like the factory finished modern-day unibody MacBook without the refined brush finish with the classic curvy finish of the more retro machines. Perhaps Apple themselves created a polished version while exploring new finishes...

Actually, it's more like someone who had the money to buy a Ferrari but then got bored and dissembled it so he could scratch the hell out of it only to realize he didn't have any other form of transportation and had to reassemble it in order to drive it around -- all the while asking what people thought of his newly scratched up super-car. I've seen the video of unfinished MBP's and I never winced at their ugliness like I did with this abomination. Next time buy a Dell and get the ugly for free.

I dont ever plan on selling my computer so thats not a problem for me. Screw resale value, if people want to buy a stock computer, many people will sell them a stock computer.
I dont really see how I 'hurt' my macbook pro, it looks different, maybe if it has feelings now it 'feels' like an outcast?

I didnt sand over the iSight. When I was working on the finish the computer was completely disassembled. The only part I didnt remove was the trackpad, I covered it with a few layers of masking tape as I sanded the case around it.

Its back together now, at least until the new year. I cant afford the time to take it apart and do the polishing until after the holidays. I might even have to wait until summer depending on my workload throughout the next term.

Thanks for the advice on polishing alu. I have a bench grinder at home that I can get a buffing wheel to mount to.

How about having it gold or chrome plated? I heard it's not really expensive and the look could add value to your machine, even if you decide to keep it.

But the point is, it's his money and he can do with it as he pleases.

And it's still a work-in-progress.

I like chocolate, you like vanilla.

+1

You folks are funny!!
Just because other people can't afford to give their Mac's a new look, doesn't mean other can't.

Next summer!?! What is this, the Lost of custom finishes? You can't post teaser pics now and then say you might not get a chance to finish until next summer!! ;)

I can't say I would do this... well that's not true, I took apart a guitar and sanded that down to the bare wood and varnished it, so I guess I would consider it, but I'm really interested in seeing what it looks like when you're done!

Talk about hypocrisy.

Looks like a great work in progress! I would say you should try to get it as mirror-like as possible like that G5 case though. It would look amazing like that. I'm not sure what you can do with the trackpad and keyboard - although heavily used trackpads and keyboards do end up looking quite shiny so you may be able to polish the trackpad. I wouldn't bother with the keyboard though since that would take forever and you would manually have to relabel all of the keys.

This is a classic example of a bunch of people with no taste in fashion or design rebelling against something new because it wasn't spoon fed to them by apple. There is a lot of really nice and unique (more underground) jewellery out these days that really has a raw architectural design with a lot of unprocessed and brushed metals like that. They aren't overly processed and polished and they look really organic and great. I think it looks awesome like it is with the rough swirls in it.

Unique? Definitely. Charming? No.
If he sanded it out evenly and consistently, it might've looked better. But he's not done. Vanilla and chocolate.

People with no taste? Spoon fed by Apple? Please.

This looks beautiful.

And if anybody actually likes the name BadBoy Pro, they need to be punched in the mouth repeatedly.

That looks like a tacky case you'd find in future shop that 13 your old boys would drool over. I'm talking about real fashion and design and not computer nerd fashion.

And yes badboy pro is also a horrible name that a 13 year old boy would love.

I call my 13" MBP an Ultra BadBoy Pro.. I was thinking about adding Deluxe, or Xtreme.. something like that. He calls it a weeboy, which is just as valid as my name or his name. I hope I don't deserve a punch in the mouth though as it should be obvious that I don't seriously refer to it as that to make a point.

i sort of like the concept of a mirror polish mbp, but i think your going to have a hard time achieving it.

are you spraypainting it?

i didn't think aluminum would polish in that way on its own

Well first he has to get down to a much higher grit sandpaper, and then use some polish and it will look like a mirror finish it, google it and see the results you get. Its actually quite spectacular what some sandpaper and polish can get you.

@ICEDD I could not agree with you more on the BadBoy Pro thing, we should get Ali back into shape and see what he can do about it. Or a resident hockey player...

EDIT: 400th post haha

That would be the case if it was actually a case. ;)

polish it. looks just scratched and beat up otherwise. but i like the idea though. fully polished it would look so much sexier than the original apple finish.
