MAN! thank looks awesome. I would so show off in a coffee shop or airport just because its unique and nobody has it, yet.

to be honest though, i would never have guts to do that to a macbookpro... you could end up with a unusable hunk of metal.:D

Redo using really really fine sandpaper, then it'll look good, looks pretty bodged at the moment, good job though for having the balls for doing it, one day when mine gets replaced I might do the same.

IMO, this looks horrible.

Yet, I wouldn't mind seeing it when it is completed. Please do finish the job and post pictures.

Well, it was pretty much a mistake using 220 sandpaper. You should have used 1000 or more. It takes a long time, but you wouldnt have those deep scratches that will be hard to buff out. But youll definitely have to use a buffing wheel, the bench grinder method will probably give you the most control over the pressure, which is important. Since you used such rough grit, youll probably need to use rough medium and fine buffing compound.
Something such as this will probably be good for your purposes.

There is a lot of really nice and unique (more underground) jewellery out these days that really has a raw architectural design with a lot of unprocessed and brushed metals like that. They aren't overly processed and polished and they look really organic and great. I think it looks awesome like it is with the rough swirls in it.
Does this unique "underground" jewelry start out as expensive, professional work that is purchased for a substantial sum only to be scratched into unsellable trash by the owner?

The last time I saw someone go through this much trouble to "uglify" their hardware it was because they wanted to prevent people from stealing it. And lo and behold, it worked.

lol. Not that I didn't expect it, but some of the responses in this thread are priceless.

It looks like you took one of the most appealing aspects of a MBP and found a way to turn it into a weak point. But hey, at least you're not bored anymore.

"Your opinion is wrong!!" "No, yours is!" "I decide what looks good and what doesn't and it's a universal truth!"

Cracks me up.

Oh FFS for the love of Allah get over yourself. What does it matter to you what I call anything of sustenance in my life? Jealous much?

It disgusts me that you consider your computer a source of nourishment.

That, or you don't know what sustenance means.

And jealous of what? I have the exact same computer as you, but with a better hard disk.

I strip guitars and paint them all the time.

Borrow a sander and go through different grit sandpapers. Don't go from the roughest to the softest as the deep scratches will stay there in the polish.

Once done it will be very cool looking. Hopefully the surface will be even and you don't eat too much material.

Fingerprints on it will be a bitch!

Actually, if I were to do this it would look like the pics in the first post which is the main reason why I'm not even attempting it. I know my limits :)

Apart from that, the way a wip looks like also says an awful lot about how neat people work. In this case it looks more like it has been stuck under a car for several kilometres. As you can tell from this thread a lot of people think about it that way. So yeah, the idea is great but its obvious the work is not done neatly. I hope it will be fixable because it will determine the end result. Since whatever you do will determine the end result I'm not attempting it as I suck at working neatly at a level which is crucial with this kind of stuff.
