So. Just a small update. I bought the 13” nano from Costco (awesome deal) with cellular. It arrived a few hours ago. I’ve never had a nano texture screen before. I can say, unequivocally I’m not going back to gloss. I wanted a screen that gave me that e-ink vibe but without the limitations of those devices. I can already tell I’ll be able to read a lot longer on the nano texture without eye fatigue. Right now I’m typing this with a window behind me in the mid afternoon. I don’t see a single reflection on the iPad. And I can tell it’s there because the glossy bezel shows me the amount it’s diffusing.
Anyway. For those that have been on the fence about the nano and such, if you find a great deal, highly recommended.

Having finished a 400 page book with the nano texture (I bought it about a month ago) - I can never go back either. It's amazing - already planning on a good number of books next year (and maybe another before this month is over).

Reading on this thing is a dream. It's so thin.

But yeah that nano texture is amazing. Also nice to know that this iPad is going to last a long long time.

I know you read a lot, I was wondering have you tried all the iPad sizes for reading (books)? I use the 11" and like it, but have always wondered how well reading on the mini is (is it too small?).

I'm asking in part because I'm really looking forward to the folding phone and being able to read books on it. Always been a dream of mine to be able to double my phone as an eReader and have my book collection with me everywhere.

I've had a mini several times and while I like it initially because it feels better in the hand... I'm 40 now... so I appreciate the iPad 11 far more for the screen size difference.

I like a lot of text on the screen so I don't have to constantly be scrolling so - while I know I can increase text size, the iPad mini is just too tiny for me - especially when going to websites.

iPad 11 is perfect for reading - and by far the easiest on the eyes. I find I read FAR MORE with this than my phone or the mini.

SAME - I want one device. I went iPad free for the last year and a half - using my 15 Pro Max only - it's doable but it's not super comfortable (lots of scrolling - didn't feel great on the eyes). The foldable phone interests me for this reason (reading books - having ONE device).

Also why the mini doesn't work because my iPhone 15 Pro Max (when I had the mini) had the same sized text when reading in landscape mode.

Yeah, I know what you mean. When I got reading glasses not too long ago I was like, "Wow, these iPhone screens are really beautiful!" Who knew?!

That's really interesting, thanks. It did occur to me the mini is just a little longer page length with a rotated phone. I find when reading novels or some non-fiction the small screen is okay, but for technical books and things with diagrams/pictures, I really need the bigger screen.

I guess a tri-fold phone is really what we want!

Yep, I got reading glasses this year and they're amazing. lol.

Yes, I so badly want just one device. My 15 Pro Max was not super comfortable to read on - I got a slight finger press in eye feeling. I do not get this on my 17 Pro Max - actually quite nice to read on. So I know I could make it work as a reader. But, also agreed, anything other than non-fiction history reading without pictures, you're going to wish you had something bigger.

The iPad Pro 11 is just so nice to read on - websites, technical manuals, history book pictures / diagrams - it is so nice. Hours go by and you're still wanting to read more. lol.

I think I will be very tempted by the foldable... but might want it to mature a generation or two - especially now that I have this lovely M5 IPP11 with the nano texture. :p

I'm still rocking a 15 PM... What about the 17 makes it better? I think the screen is about the same size. Or is it just something about the image quality?

Yeah the iPad really is amazing. I used to haul around these three inch thick computer books in my backpack. Now I can carry every book I've ever read in my hand. Guess I shouldn't complain about carrying the iPad around -- never satisfied!

You're right about waiting a couple of iterations on the fold... if I only I had the willpower to resist!

Nano sounds great but $2,949AUD for a 11" is just nuts
As long as it doesn't hurt you financially, why not? What is the point of working hard to make money and then not spend it until later in life? What if later in life either doesn't come, or it comes and you are at a point in your life where you can no longer enjoy what would have made you happy?

The iPad Pro nano is definitely expensive but, it sure is nice. :)

You know, I have no clue at all. I tried to look into it and found nothing obvious. So I chalked it up to something that may just be me. I read many books on my 15 Pro Max (the year+ I had no iPad) but it was never comfortable for over an hour. Maybe it's a physical change in my eyes or something small in the panels used on the 17 Pro Max. <shrug>.

The iPad tho... If you can afford it, it's the way to go to consume text. lol. I'm hoping the iPad helps me with the willpower to resist the fold initially. lol. I really really want just ONE device.

plus you don't need to upgrade it often. can be a long term investment

That is exactly how I’m viewing my 11’ iPad Pro M5 nano-texture. It wasn’t cheap but if I can keep it for a long time - combined with the absolute joy of reading text on this screen - it is rapidly becoming one of my most enjoyed Apple products. (Using it now to type this on my kitchen table with a Bluetooth keyboard and stand). Lol

Yeah love mine and so glad went with nano texture. Will get it for my next MacBook Pro too

One of our major retailers here had some silver 11" M4 2TB nano for $1200AUD :) snagged one.
Same in M5 would be $3649.

Traded in my 256 glossy M4 11-inch wi-fi model for a nano M4 1TB + Cellular in the same size at BackMarket. When it was all said and done, it only cost me $600 and some change. It arrived in great condition. I’ve been rocking it for a week and it’s gonna be tough to go back to a glossy display after this. Using the pencil on it is just SOOOOO nice!

I have a mini A17 Pro, and I think it’s the perfect size for reading. It’s just about the same size as a paperback book.
The Mimi's 8.3" screen is larger than the popular Kindle PaperWhite and other eReaders. You adjust the text size to whatever is comfortable — I know some folks put the Mini on a stand and use a BlueTooth page turner for hands free reading. It is very good as an eReader. I switched from a Kobo Libra 2.

I’ve been using both back and forth for over a year now. My take is that I love the nano texture for editing photos. I’m a professional photographer that prints almost exclusively on Hahnemuehle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth paper that is a matte surface. The colors and B&W edited on my iPad are identical to the output on paper.

For entertainment, I like the regular screen because it is vibrant. It however, very rarely leaves the house. The nano texture screen goes everywhere with me and is a true blessing out and about.
