I’ll keep glossy. I rather have the deep blacks and the anti reflective coating or whatever does the job for me about 99% of the time.

Yeah, I use a simple capacitive stylus when my hands are dirty/oily. It works great, and unlike the Pencil, you can swipe up to close apps with it as it mimics your finger.
Yeah that's a good idea. I am also keeping the pencil attached for went my hands are not completely dry (although I always try to dry them well after washing something)

I am keeping both. The main reason is not even the deep blacks, it's that I can use it anywhere with no screen protector without worrying too much about splashes or scratches (and if I do I can always put a temporary screen protector). The anti-reflecting coating is good, but dark mode and dark videos are so much better on the nano, especially when you are not in dark rooms...

Dark videos and dark mode is better on the glossy screen. Black looks like dark grey on the nano. No thanks. I also don’t need 2 iPad pros

People who have nano texture or pursuing it for iPad Pro, do you also have it on your MacBook Pro or seeking it on your next (since I think it just started end of 2024, like the iPad Pros did in early/mid 2024 with M4 model)?

Also do you long for a nano texture iPhone Ultra or something like that?

Curious :D

I got the Apple Studio Display with nano texture years ago. But what REALLY influenced me getting it was the fact that ever since 2018 - I've been using film matte screen protectors on my iPads.

I physically went to the Apple store - because the Youtube influencer videos really didn't answer my questions - and that convinced me - I sat there for 20 minutes (Apple Store Employees were very kind) and compared the nano texture iPad to the normal iPad and walked out with a nano texture iPad. :p

The feel, the way it dealt with the Apple Store lighting, yep it was exactly what I wanted in a reading device.

I use my MacBook in clamshell mode with my Apple Studio Display so I probably wouldn't shell out the $ for it on my MacBook cuz I rarely use it as a MacBook by itself.

I'm planning on purchasing an iPad this year for the first time in years, and I'm facing this same dilemma.

Seeing them both in the store, the main "con" of the Nano Texture display for me is that it introduces graininess that isn't present with the glossy display. So the question for me is if I can get past that and get used to it, or if it will bother me.

And I'm not sure yet 🤔

I have nano texture displays on my iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and my Studio Display. This was after I was initially highly skeptical of them. I would never go back to a glossy screen now. It's a night / day difference for me. I just wish they did it for the MacBook Air and iPhone.

Is there anything special you have to do to clean the nano texture display? All of my screens now are glossy, so I use some pre-packaged electronic wipes for the screens now.

Stubborn fingerprints are a little harder to remove with a dry cloth - require some light moisture from your breath or a drop of water on a cloth - but for most of them, just wipe them off like normal.

Definitely planning to get nano texture with my next MBP. But I have a M3 model so the earliest I would consider upgrading would be the M6 generation (or whenever the big redesign ends up coming). I plan to get it but also am not going to buy a new machine right now just for the nano texture screen.

That being said, I wouldn’t want it on an iPhone unless Apple can improve the scratch resistance. The Ceramic Shield 2 on the iPhone 17 Pro is (so far) incredibly scratch resistant. I wouldn’t want to give that up on my phone. The glare issue is easier to deal with on the phone because the screen is so much smaller. It’s easier to find an angle that avoids the glare compared to a larger screen.

I was also skeptical of the nano texture due to the grain. But, I’m a convert after using a nano texture screen for a few weeks and A/B testing it with the glossy. The graininess is a real thing. But your brain tunes it out after a bit of use. It’s almost like looking at the texture of paper. Your brain is never really bothered by grain on the pages of a book because you expect it to be there. But the grain doesn’t affect your ability to actually read the book. The same is true on the nano texture. The only reason we are really even talking about it is because we went over a decade with only looking at glossy displays on iPads.

Let me put it another way, your brain is going to be tuning out something no matter which screen type you pick. If you get the glossy display, your brain has to tune out all the reflections from your environment (any lamps/windows, your own face, etc.) to focus on the screen. That takes effort, even if you don’t realize it. If you get the nano texture, your brain will need to tune out a bit of grain (and this is only on white or light backgrounds, you never notice it in dark mode). I have found my brain is much more able to easily tune out the grain than the reflections on the glossy screen. This screen is the easiest on my eyes of any I have by a significant margin.

Most things can easily be wiped away with the apple polishing cloth, or can be wiped away with a little bit of pressure. I have only owned mine for a few weeks but have yet to encounter a smudge (or bit of spittle) that the cloth can’t wipe off. I have not had to use any moisture so far. I will say I have noticed that the polishing cloth Apple sells in stores seems to do a better job than the one included in the box. Not sure why there are different cloths. What you do lose with the nano texture is the ability to wipe off smudges with your shirt. That has basically no effect and you really need to use the cloth. I clean my screen every day or two and it looks great. Nano texture also picks up many fewer fingerprints in general so it’s easier to keep looking nice as long as you wipe it down with some regularity.

Concerning graineness, it's mainly a thing on whilte background. That's why I use light mode on glossy displays (where the white virtually eliminate reflections and dark mode on matte ones where the dark eliminates graininess. But if you read black on white dark mode won't change it and you'll see the grian.
I have decided to keep both the standard glass and the nano, but not because of graininess, but because of situations where the nano is more at risk (kitchen, some trips) and I am not advocating anyone does get both.
In terms of graininess, it's similar to the one Paperlike introduces, but Paperlike is way more reflective. More matte screen protector (they exist and are often cheaper) introduce a lot more. I haven't seen a matte screen (and I have a ton of them) with no grain at all on white background because of... physics, but nano is one of the best. So for me it's totally acceptable.

I agree with this, but I would add that on white backgrounds (e.g. a Word page) there is hardly any reflection so there is not much to tune out, and similarly on dark stuff there is no viisible grain as you say. But again, I agree it's easier to live with some minor grain (typical of any matte display) than with reflections, especially if you like dark mode.

I agree that it's worth having both to clean and I would not use any liquid or other cloth. The guy at the Apple store also taught me you can remove some stains (not fingerprints) with your finger and then wipe and, as basic as it is, it works.

I am using mine with the ASD no nano, not in a bright room so glare doesn’t worry me, iPad though goes everywhere so matters.

Did you guys need a bit of time to adjust to the nano texture glass? It seems like, smudgy/blurry (especially noticeable on white backgrounds) but I also love how unreflective it is. Only got it today so am going to give it a bit of time.

There is a bit of grain on white, but it does not bother me. I only kept the standard glass too because of situations where the nano could be damaged by splashes (kitched, bathroom etc) but if it wasn't for that I would have kept the nano only, which is the one I use most often anyway.

Totally get that, but did you need a day or so to adjust? Or did you think it was absolutely perfect out of the box.

I’m asking because I moved from an 11 inch M4 OLED iPad Pro and the difference has been a bit of a shock, although even after a few hours of use, I feel I am getting used to it.

When it comes to cleaning nano display, the apple cloth is most preferred.

I know generally advisable not to use any liquids, but would a dot of water on the cloth help or not worth the risk?
Or not needed and a quick wipe of apple cloth resolves any smudges or abnormalities?

TIA
