The potential problem is that this is *not* how it is with a standalone GPS and a cellphone. If I get a phone call, the GPS display still works and I can glance at it, if I miss the voice directions due to the phone call.

So you are telling us while driving your car you are talking on your cell phone and staring at your stand-alone gps?

I am not sure why I would (or should) be browsing the web while using this product. I would be using it while driving. Wouldn't you want to just focus on that? I am surprised he didn't say "You are navigating and you get a text message...no worries, just switch over, answer your message and after you are done, you will be right back where you left off." Too bad although your iOS 4 multitasking is working perfectly, you are wrapped around a tree.

Sooo If she can hear the turn by turn... does that mean music too or baseball games?? .like if pandora were running in the BG.. or I could broadcast some MLB games to my bro over the phone lol..

In theory yes. The iOS 4.0 APIs would allow for that. But since it doesn't make any sense, I don't think Pandora etc. would implement such a "feature"...

Wow, people complain that they can't get directions while in a call, then you give them that and they complain that the voice gives them directions during a call?

My words ...

The only time it would be annoying is if you are navigating some downtown city streets and making lots of turns, then you get a call.

Exactly, but in such a situation I would simply not take the call anyway...

However, with an integrated device, the phone call takes over and the GPS is no longer displayed. Perhaps it is possible to "multitask" the phone call, so it's in the background and the GPS is on screen.

Not really that much of a problem, I think. Technically you should be able to switch back over to the GPS thru the multi-tasking menu, and the call will work in the background and you can see the map. There also may be an option to disable voice prompts during a call. I think all but the most incompetent people will manage just fine with this... though the most incompetent greatly out number everyone else.

That's in part because because Navigon didn't think to have a button to repeat the last voice instruction.

Doesn't tapping the button in the bottom left corner repeat the last voice instruction? That's what I use to adjust the volume level of the voice, and afaik it always repeats the last instruction when I do that..

On topic: I hope that Apple will allow an app to stay on the foreground when receiving calls in the near future. That would be much better in this case.

Don't be dumb. How else would it alert you when you're on the phone? You would be the exact same person who would complain if it didn't alert you and you miss your turn. It's the disadvantage of using a all in one device.

I swear some people just don't think.

well what if the call kept playing while you're inside your app. so you don't have to hear the GPS navigator, but rather see where to go on the screen.

The question is....Can you text while talking on the phone, using your gps and listening to Pandora?

I'll just stick with Google Maps Navigation which is free and looks to be 1000 times better than this.

If apple wants to get serious about navigation software they have to include it in their OS to compete with Google.

Navigon rocks

I could have used this feature at the beginning of this week. I was just pulling onto a toll road that I was unfamiliar with, when the phone rang. I had to pull over, take the call, then wait for Navigon to relaunch and return to navigation (which takes a L-O-N-G time on my iPhone 3G). This is wonderful!

Ok... so I have a BlueTooth handsfree in my car, and I have a TomTom GPS (second device). When I get a phonecall, while I am navigating to a destination.... the TomTom doesn't know this, and continues to announce my path. It can get distracting.

My solution? PULL OVER! You want to be on the phone, trying to find a location and receiving directions all at the same time? How about you just pull the vehicle over... take your important call and move on. You probably don't even have to stop the navigation app then... as since your not moving it won't have to update your directions. ... :D

Also while your pulled over and stopped I suspect your chances of running over a small child is reduced by atleast 50%... Don't check my math

lol, I like your solution :D

Video shows receiving a call and the navigation voice keeps talking (annoying) and he says "isn't that cool?". Well no, it's not - it's annoying. How can you hear your phone conversation when you have Mrs. Robot speaking "turn left ahead".

You can pull over and take the call which probably safer and the voice won't continue because you're not moving

Learn To Multi-task

Wow.... You got two ears (For those of you with only one ear, yes this is a personal attack) use one ear to listen to your phone call, and the other to listen to the voice directions, put the car on cruise control (Preferably at 80mph) turn your head sideways and chow down on that taco... Too much whining ssrsly ppl? The point is that you wont lose what you are doing and the app/os has made the improvements that ppl have been demanding for a long time.

Sent from my iPhone, whilst driving and eating a taco.

Am i the only person on earth who simply pressed the home button while on a call then re-entered the app and continued navigating with no problem.. Oh yeah and when the voice promps got in the way all I did was flip the mute ring switch.. Sure multi tasking takes about 8 seconds out of the process but you would thiink that this was impossible to do before I os 4

I was thinking the same exact thing. This would not go over well when I'm talking to my Wife or business associate. I can't barely stand the audible direction when that is all I hear.

This is nice and all, but I still can't switch between apps while using a chat client and NOT get disconnected. **** is that so much to ask for? :apple:

Wait for the apps to get updated, just because the OS supports it, doesn't mean the apps do.

If an OS can print money, but there is no driver to connect to the printer, that doesn't make you a rich man does it?

Uhh, that's not the point. I read somewhere on here that chat clients won't be able to run in the background without disconnecting when switching between apps, period. So, this isn't a matter of most apps not being updated to take advantage of the APi's yet. Thanks for playing though.
