From someone that listens a lot through OS X:
- Way too much crap in iTunes, a lot of times I accidentally click on iTunes Store and just get a 2 min preview
- iTunes Store and Mac App Store has always had long loading times for me and with no gesture support

Yeah, it seems counter-intuitive, but you really do not need a huge sample size to apply it on a much grander scale, and 5000 is massive.

meh, Apple has never been good at making online services. This is not even theirs, it is just a rebranded service. One that was not all that successful in the first place.

I knew a lot of people were gonna drop Apple Music after free trial. Apple is so out of it that it basically humiliates itself. The announcement they had that Apple Music had 10 million subscribers was a fail. You only announce numbers after free trials not before. Thats what happens when a company is showing off its ego.

Again, there are other ways of getting music without paying. Or, for students there's a better discount out there. If you're an Android user and have rooted, well let's just say that free premium and unlimited skips is possible.

I think this sentence: "A new study by consumer research firm MusicWatch finds that 77% of iOS users in the United States are aware of Apple Music, with 11% currently using the streaming music service." is very telling.

Spotify sucks big time and I cannot wait for spotify to be hacked and put out of business.

I don't trust their CEO and don't trust my credit card with them. Besides, if it weren't for the ad infested free option, spotify wouldn't be in business.

I rather people use Google music or MS Groove than spotify.
Why do you even care about what other people are using? Is your life so sad that you need other people to only use things you've approved?

Apple Music screwed up my files. Not using it again without a very, very tempting reason to do so and some fixed bugs.

T-Mobile employees and customers with unlimited data plans get a discount on Rhapsody even after the $1 for three months trial period, so I'll use that. :D

5000 is a pathetic sample size of a global service.

This is barely a survey at all. Also asking a demographic consisting of young teenagers are more likely to favour a free service over a paid one even with a free trial due to financial restrictions.

Macrumors is getting close to posting click bait far too often with this sort of "news"

It's not the sample size to me, it's the negative spin being put on the percent return. I mean if 60% of recipients of some direct mail offer actually signed up for whatever was being pitched, the marketing outfit in question would be out getting drunk right now to celebrate an astounding success.

But because it's Apple... "Only 98% of Apple gear users think their gear is any good..." would mean FAIL to some people. Depends what you're looking for. I mean anyone can write a piece and say Apple's a fail. It's been happening for decades. It tends to obscure any real issues Apple has, so it's sorta stupid, but it's been background noise since at least the 90s.

So I guess having something over 60% of some surveyed Apple Music users saying they like it enough to pay ten bucks a month in future, well, it may be clickbait to spin it as "only half will sign up."

However, for an optional revenue stream, the beancounters at Apple can't be too upset however anyone else wants to spin the info. What could they have been expecting? Ten, maybe twenty percent? Of course time will tell as the freebie trial moves into the era of measuring sustained subscriptions. But half the trial users figure to continue? Way past pretty good...

The usability is just so incredibly awful right now... especially from iTunes. I use Tidal w/ Roon for listening at home, but Tidal's library is relatively limited and I'll either keep Apple Music or Spotify for mobile / family listening and discovery. If Apple Music wants my $15/month more than Spotify wants it, they have until September 30th to fix their mess.

Serious question: is anyone surprised by these stats?

I played with Apple music for less 30 minutes and knew it was rushed into live production. The reviews and serious, library corrupting bugs that were reported shortly after launch only proved my instinct.

Unfortunately, and sadly, Apple is now behaving like Microsoft: get something to market and then fix all the issues so that by v3 it's usable. The Apple community used to rail on Microsoft for this—"APPLE TAKES THE TIME TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME"—and now guys like Gruber and the other pundits are silent on the matter.

I think part of what made it easy for MS to fail was their fans and pundits created an echo chamber, so the company couldn't hear what most people were thinking about the slow decline of their products. I wish the pundits were less understanding, less worried about pissing off Apple, and spoke truth to power. We owe it Apple and to ourselves.

Apple Music was a big miss. Apple had all of the pieces, and they missed. And the scary thing is they don't know they did. Instead, they're sending out press releases bragging about 11,000,000 trial memberships.

I'm sure a lot of people signed up to try it without any intention of keeping it once the free trial was over, so this doesn't surprise me. It would be interesting to know how long it took on average for people to turn off auto renewal, I know if I ever sign up for the trial I'll most likely turn off auto renewal the same day as I sign up to avoid accidentally forgetting.

I think the best way for us to find out if it is successful or not is to wait a few months after the trial is over and see how their numbers compare to other streaming services.

I'm sticking with Apple Music. Beats 1 is weak most of the time but its there when I need it. I am more into listening to all the music I wanted to but never bought. The only negative I have come across is their suggested playlists. They almost always consist of music I already have liked or bought. I want suggestions of new music so that I can expand and discover new things.

Why do u care about what other people are using? You sound awfully angry at Spotify. Did they come to your house and pointed a gun at you or something?

I also wanted to like it. But Spotify is just so much better and easier to use if you want to stream. Better navigation, cleaner UI, better playlists, things are quick, it's its OWN app and not thrown in to a cumbersome app like iTunes, it has a social aspect where I can follow friends and see what they're listening to, not just marketing updates from artists, I could go on for days... no I can't get my Taylor Swift fix, but I'll live. And hey, President Obama's playlist is only available on Spotify -- that says a lot.

Apple Music is really a disappointment and it's a shame. Hoping they'll do some significant changes to get it at least in the ballpark of Spotify one day.

Lets hope this forces Apple to make it proper. They did a seriously poor job with Apple Music, it almost feel like an Alpha. I still dont know if Im going to keep using it myself after the 3 months trials are up. I want to, but without any response from Apple and seeing Apple Maps still stinks after years to fix the issues I have my doubts.

They need to fix all the broken crap that borks users libraries and mismatches music and artwork. It's pretty sad that 60% of the people who tried don't want to renew. I am in that camp, because AM trainwrecked my music files.
Those issues were fixed in the last update. Try to keep up

Even with the tiny percentage of users having a few issues, it's miles ahead of Spotify. Where's spotify's human curation, live global radio, and exclusive content? Oh that's right, nowhere. Spotify's UI is a complete disaster
