If Netflix is a bigger burden on a private company's network than this web site, why shouldn't they be allowed to charge Netflix more? Why do you think this should be illegal?

Content providers are already charged for the amount of bandwidth that is served. You and I are charged for receiving it. The transmission is billed on both ends. And it’s billed according to the “burden” of the content delivered—the speed of the connection.

I liked your comment because I agree, but let me add one thing. The “trust us” argument doesnt hold much water with ANY political climate not just the current. But yes, I agree with you.

Agreed, but some politicians take lying and deceit to greater extremes than others.

It appeared your point was that Obama's Net Neutrality resulted in you getting a new ISP. If that wasn't your point, what was it?
Well, see, you made a statement that was demonstrably false (that government regulation is “the barrier” to market entry) and so I demonstrated that it was false, particularly under Title II regulation which supposedly “crippled” infrastructure spending (it didn’t).

And before you inevitably say it, it wasn’t even a huge cable company like Comcast or Charter that entered the market here.

There were instances of blocking under "net neutrality" too. There's also any other cell phone carrier you could haven taken your business to that didn't block Skype. Also the FCC made AT&T stop blocking it. Didn't need neutrality rules to fix the problem.

Most people have access to all the major wireless carriers and MVNOs offering broadly comparable features.

In many markets there’s few and sometimes only one game in town when it comes to true high speed internet.

This is why NN matters. The providers can’t be trusted to act fairly, responsibly and to self regulate.

I can't wait until they reimplement net nutrality so my cell provider can double down on throttling video over cellular as they did while it was in effect.

You mean like the conservative snowflakes that cry for freedom, but have a change of heart when someone takes a knee?

Where is the change of heart? Freedom includes the freedom of speech to oppose ignorant liberal brats. Those privileged brats can protest on their own time. They don't have any right to protest during working hours. None of us do.

Bandwidth is neither "liberal" nor "conservative".
It makes no distinction as it streams to your device (last time I checked).

Why are you introducing political tags? RED or BLUE does not matter. It is colored NEUTRAL.
You really think that the bandwidth is the problem?

People who control the bandwidth have a lot of power that can be utilized in serveral ways.

But this is hypothetical as of now.

The pay-per-access concept

Until we see it in practice, the screeching is unwarranted imo

The counter argument is this will force competition to start stepping their game up, and we know what competition means for consumers

If one ISP starts toying with customers, they’ll leap to the other that dont do this

And the counter argument to that is, when one does one thing, the others follow suit. Look at cell phone carriers.

Yet they aren’t subject to non-net neutrality and still find a way to hose their customers

...So which end is up? I maintain we do not know,
Your forgetting that most to the US really doesn't have a choice on ISP provider.

It is one 'cable ISP' or some slow DSL service.

That is not competition.

That’s why I said It’s cnn mind you. No point in arguing. You think obama was an economic champion. I am literally laughing.

Also don’t care you don’t think the economy is doing well. Lowest unemployment in half a century. Not a big deal to you. That is to me. That is to a lot of people. You let your partisanship not allow you to concede trump is doing a single thing right. That’s your right but that’s also how I see it

Lastly, Obama’s economy was terrible people working 3 part time Jobs to put food on the table. Padding #’s that weren’t good to begin with

Let’s see a globalist formerly failed community organizer (which he admits if you watch the episode with him on netflix’s Letterman show) or a populist and a patriot and proven successful business name (no he’s not! Having his name on buildings is not a big deal. I’m a cashier at GameStop. Now that’s a big deal) . Hmmm

Guy who’s hates America And goes to Jeremiah Wright’s church who condemns and says g-dam- America in his sermons, is friends with Louis Farrakhan, and whose wife said the only time she’s been proud of her country is when obama was elected... and never walked it back or clarified it, because we knew exactly what she meant and so did she and she’s unapologetic about it

or guy who loves America, has lived the American dream, wants to improve It and is constantly attacked for wanting to improve it. The ultimate sacrifice.

Tough call
Ah, I see the classic "Economy is so great! Ever since January 20th, 2017!" Seems to me like we're still riding on the Obama economy, along with people still working 3 part time jobs. Sounds to me like you need to visit some other news sources besides Fox and Breitbart, along with developing some actual critical thinking skills. It's a real shame many of these red states have cut funding from education so much where we're no longer providing students vital critical thinking skills.

I see the general conservative news talking points about NN are on full blast today. And I see actual facts, as usual, are not swaying these people about the abuses ISPs did to consumers prior to the 2015 legislation. The whole reason that legislation was brought forth was because of the ISPs abusing their position in the marketplace and the general outcry from the public asking for them to be regulated. We had an actual chairman who decided to listen to the people instead of Pai who is clearly ignoring consumers and listening to the ISPs. Give it time, we won't see drastic change for a few years as the ISPs aren't stupid enough to enact "packages" akin to Portugal's ISPs who charge to view various websites. You can be sure they'll start off slow.

How would you like your electric or water provider to provide "fast" and "slow" lanes? Rolling blackouts? Here, we'll charge you an extra $50 so you can be prioritized in our grid! Low water pressure an issue during high water usage times? Here, spend this extra $25 to prioritize you in our water delivery grid!

WWI and WWII era presidents are rolling in their graves right now from the bout of facism we're currently going through. It should be clear to anybody here how anti-consumer this administration is, and how much disdain they have for the common people, and the media reporting on their BS. Just the sham of a tax bill they rammed through should be clear evidence of not caring for the average Macrumors member unless you're apart of the 1%. Trickle down has been, and always will be, a farce.

What fantastic things? The only major economic legislation passed by Congress and signed by Trump is the tax cut, and tax cuts are statistically known to be very weak forms of stimulus. That's proven by the fact that most companies used it for stock buybacks, which is a stimulus for individual stocks and not the general economy. The tax cut also exploded the debt which Republicans previously claimed was horrible for the economy when Obama was president.

As for black/hispanic employment, the numbers (like general unemployment as well) are just a continuation of the trend that already existed under Obama. Black unemployment peaked at 16.6% in 2010, then fell to 7.8% by Obama's last month in office. Hispanic unemployment peaked at 13% in 2009, then fell to 5.9% by Obama's last month in office.

I love it when liberals realized that Trump won the election they started screaming that the result was going to be that he would single handedly destroy the economy and the markets and it would be completely his fault.

Fast forward a little over a year. Economy booming, markets at all time highs, unemployment at all time lows (especially for minority’s), etc. Yep, you guessed it, it’s all because of what Obama did. Even though for eight years they screamed that it wouldn’t get any better than it was because Bush had damaged the economy so bad that even Obama was limited at how much he could fix it.

It would be pathetic if it wasn’t so predictable.

The fact that you can label someone partisan while lacking any self-awareness in the rest of your diatribe is quite astounding. Well done.

Guilty. I am partisan. I want USA and this president to succeed and I don’t Let hollywood or media or peer pressure from people my age dictate how I think.

I wanted obama to succeed too, but he didn’t and I knew hoping too much would’ve been a waste of effort. Because HIs heart wasn’t in it. His heart was in showing up on late night shows and becoming a smiling meme

And when I am presented with uncomfortable evidence , evidence as the operative word, Whuch has contradicted that which I thought I believed but discovered that I knew nothing of, i re evaluate ... I don’t just double down screeching my emotions, think it’s fact, and call it a day.

I am oh so guilty of all of this

If he legalized weed federally, Liberals would stop smoking it as a show of the resistance! They would change Their lifestyle Just to be spiteful.

And reefer madness jeff sessions would be livid. Which is great cause he’s a terrible AG and that’s been his main obsession

And Democrats would be permanently unelectable. Obama was the cool guy but he did nothing in this department and somehow liberals are like “it’s congress! It’s all Congress!”

triple winning

You really don't know much about liberals.

You really don't know much about liberals.

Oh?

“Ms13 is really bad”

Trump: “they are animals”

Liberals: “we need to be more tolerant of ms13. They’re people too. These rapists and carvers and murderers, they have feelings”

“We need to make America great again” -bill clinton

“Well yea. Improving the country is called progress” -liberals

“We need to make America great again” -trump

“What kinda crap is that? How pessimistic can he get? I wanna go back to Obama Utopia”

“We need to do something about border control” -bill clinton

“Of course, that’s national security and our sovereignty at stake” -liberals

“We’re gonna build a wall” -trump

“What a racist! Why would he wanna do that?”

Are you seeing a pattern? Probably not .. sigh

So those snowflakes decide what an employer allows and doesn't allow their own employees to do? Employer allows their employees to knee, get over it and find something else to cry about. Like maybe go complain how the other 99% of companies out there don't even have the pledge at the start of the workday.
