It actually closer to $91 per year... used to be $8.69 per month for the bundle, dropped to $7.60 in October.
And yes, they Hulu is ad free. Doesn't show it here, but it is.

I was just curious as to how you were getting the bundle for so much less (seems like quite a deal) when the website lists the price at $19.99/month.

You should launch a competitor. Clearly a gap in the market.
Exactly! Love to see you negotiate and pay for licensing deals with all the studios that own the content you want to see. Oh and establish a studio to produce your content. Im sure that won't cost anything right!?

If the 4K plan meant EVERYTHING was in 4K then maybe - but it's not. It should be called the 'Some titles in 4K plan but you still pay top tier pricing' plan...
You do realize it is impossible for 'everything' to be in 4K. It is a simple fact that the vast majority of film and video content - especially anything more than 10 years old - is NOT available in 4K resolution on any platform, format, service or device. The files simply does not exist.

This has NOTHING to do with Netflix, it is up to the studios and owners of the original source masters these films and shows were shot on to create 4K versions. The only way to create proper 4K master is to frame by frame rescan the source negatives and audio tapes to create new master files with new 4K versions. A new 4K film scan of a feature film can easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce, add to that many hours of skilled technicians who need to do all the work to correctly process the material with color correcting, audio mixing and other work that in many cases needs to be done frame by frame. This is of course assuming the original source materials are still in good usable condition. Due to the complexity and expense involved studios are only going to focus only on the better known and more popular releases they know they can profit from. Unfortunately many vintage TV shows were shot on video tape which can never be in 4K as the source simply is not at that resolution.

That’s the way of the world mate. Nearly everybody in my area has sky tv through Amazon fire sticks or IPTV. It’s illegal but when Sky charge £90+ a month and instead you can pay £45 for an entire year, piracy wins. It will only be stopped when companies cut their greed.
Especially when it comes to the EPL, where a good chunk of live games are not televised but is in any other country. IPTV let’s you do that.

You can spend £90+ a month legally AND STILL not able to watch every single EPL game (because it’s impossible due to greed and a way outdated blackout).

Only LAST season which made history in the UK - was possible but that was because of the pandemic and no fan can attend games.

No one ain’t shaming me for watching stuff illegally. These greedy companies will live.

Yeah absolutely, I’ve had a couple of years away from it but am thinking of going the IPTV route again. I only want it for Liverpool games and F1 and had a IPTV for years even when it was less reliable than it is now. Most of my friends have it and say it’s been consistent for nearly 2 years now and is only £45. I’ve never understood why Sky don’t just lower their price and get more subscribers in the longterm rather than driving people to find alternatives. My parents have an official subscription with everything included and are paying well over £100 a month! No thanks lol.

I did hear Sky are on a marketing drive in my part of Wales and have seen them door knocking late last year. Apparently they have lost so many subscribers lol. Yeah because everybody is using illegal streams due to their costs.

Netflix I pay for along with Disney+ and Amazon Prime. I dropped Apple TV after the years free subscription came to an end because the content is rubbish in comparison to the others.

Then your internet company should give you 1 gig connection as complementary as well.

The problem is, what you consider as complementary (4K streaming), has higher server costs. I don't see anyone complaining about different iPhone models - 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max. Why shouldn't the features of Pro Max be complementary at base price?
Just as Apple gradually offer larger storage capacity at the same price point, Netflix needs to catch up with the time and offer what most streaming services offer as complementary -- 4K. As technology improves, hosting cost also decreases.

And if you look at the average bitrate, Netflix uses far more aggressive compression than many of its competitors, further diminishing your argument.

Less than half?? There aren't over 160 million U.S. households, more like 125 million.

Yes, the number of households with cable or satellite TV is declining (the pandemic even increased cord-cutting as more people than usual sought cheaper alternatives) but it's still a significant total number.

4K streaming is a service, not a product. Has Apple's iCloud monthly storage cost gone down?

Netflix has far more users than their competitors. Netflix has far more shows than their competitors. Some of Netflix's competition uses ads.

Every time Netflix raises prices this is the usual comment, then their subscriber numbers grow because they continuously acquire a wide variety of content to be developed or licensed for streaming by them. They also seem to be the largest international streaming provider of foreign language content. Remember back in Jan 2021 they Leased two production facilities in Korea? Squid game was theirs. They now seem to be getting a lot various asian productions on a regular basis, some dubbed, most subtitled. From Japan, Taiwan sources also. A lot of counties they stream to subscribers, demand local production content be included. Does HBO, Disney do that? Amazon? Even if a lot of their content appears so so they are marketing to the world which is pretty unique.
This. Also, people fail to realize that many of the myriad of streaming services in the US have already been consolidated by Netflix overseas.

They would be shocked that 1) most of the US streaming services don't exist overseas 2) those that do have a tiny marketshare and 3) Netflix has acquired streaming rights to many major shows of their competitors overseas.

Which has long been pretty common with products and services. In order to get "A" you need to buy the higher level package, version or whatever that has "A and B". Some people subscribe to Standard or Premium not because of the HD or Ultra HD but because of the increased number of screens you can use simultaneously while others subscribe because of the HD or Ultra HD and not the screen count.
all streaming services are 4K now. Netflix is the only one that makes you pay extra for it.

So I hope you don't own their stock!

I wouldn't own any stock or anything even riskier at the moment. It was already known that we were in a bubble for the last year because of low interest rates and easy money policies around the world. People just shrugged off the warnings and figured they would only start selling once the decision to raise rates became official.

Then we have the potential for conflict in eastern Europe within the next month and continued supply chain and energy prices increases.

All risky and volatile investments are off the table.

Netflix isn't the only one. HBO Max with ads isn't 4K. You have to buy HBO Max ad-free to get 4K. There may even be others.
I think the supposed dig is at Netflix not offering 4K when compared to Apple's own streaming service which does. After all, this is an unofficial Apple forum, which tends to be frequented by those being partial to Apple products.

Netflix just got around to raising the monthly price for me a couple months ago (to $17.99) -- I am grandfathered into paying via iTunes. I suspect us users who still pay via that method will see the price increase later than everyone else.

In our house, Netflix is used everyday between my wife and I, so another couple dollars won't make much of a difference. But at some point, we'll get to a point that if prices continue to go up, we'll reevaluate the situation. Especially since there are cheaper streaming services out there.

Welp this was the push I needed to cancel. They don’t have near enough decent content to justify that price. We’re now going to use only one extra streaming service per month and Netflix might get a shot every 3-4 months. They’ll be getting far less money from me, not more. Good move Netflix. ?

As good as Netflix is and I am happy to pay for it now, they do have to be careful with the price increases. If it becomes too expensive then people will leave and in vast quantities. It’s happened to other companies and with so many competitors in the market, it can all go south very quickly.

Yeah, go ahead and raise your prices right before Stranger Things Season 4 comes out. Slick move Netflix.
