I've cancelled Netflix on this news. I hadn't been watching much anyway and I suppose this was the straw yada yada. Hulu is where I usually end up, or on YouTube. Hulu I have the ad-supported plan (only because their "ad-free" isn't really ad-free) and YT I find Premium is well worth the money.

No I watch Netflix on a 50” LG 4K compatible TV mainly. Don’t assume.

The standard high definition quality is fine for my tastes, therefore I see little point paying £10 more a month for a slightly crisper picture. People can laugh at that all they like as it makes no difference to me .
Is it OLED? Do you have Dolby Vision support?

If you are talking down the vast differences between those two streams you clearly have not experienced it. And it is far more than a "slightly crisper" picture.

You can do a rather simple check - given you are subscribed to Apple TV+ and own an Xbox. Open up "See" on your LG native web. You should have a nice and clean Dolby Vision stream. Now start the Xbox, open the Apple TV app there and recheck the stream (as the Xbox App does not support Dolby Vision).

If you are still talking about a "slightly crisper" picture you may should have your eyes checked. And you are free to explain why you buy a mobile phone that records and outputs in Dolby Vision (iPhone having this is one of the major differences).

It's still a fraction of what you pay to cable providers, and there are no adverts.

I currently subscribe to the following:
  • Netflix 4K - £13.99
  • Apple One (including multiple services) - £29.95
  • Disney+ £7.99
  • Prime - £2.50
All of this is under £55 which is still less than what I would pay for Sky TV, mostly everything is in 4K, on all my devices and I don't have to watch any ads.

If I switch to Sky again, I'm inundated with adverts every second with regular TV and the same service is over £70. Moreover, I can barely take that anywhere.

I'll take the above any day of the week.....

Given they removed friends over here in NL, which was a go-to if we were knackered with none sleeping kids and now a price increase, I kinda wonder whether to bother.

No it’s not OLED and if I haven’t made it clear enough, I’m not bothered about the Netflix 4K subscription as the standard is fine for my viewing. I don’t own an Xbox either and although I have an OLED iPhone, I have it because I upgraded to a current model, not because it had OLED or Dolby vision. You’ll be pleased to know there is nothing wrong with my eyesight. I’m sure it was genuine concern and not a condescending snipe.

This is what happens when the rights holders of programs, movies, sports want more money for the products they own, it forces others to raise their prices too. In the next couple of years expect to pay $30 to $50 for Netflix.

Isn’t there talk of Netflix getting the F1 highlights, not sure if this just applies to the UK….anyway it will have to be paid for somehow.

I’m hoping Netflix get the full coverage and outbid SkyF1 at the next contract. The success of ‘Drive to Survive’ should hopefully make the sport realise that they’d probably get a bigger audience with Netflix if they ignore free to air broadcasters.

Thank God I live in a sh!thole country that will never suffer from increased Netflix fees

This occurs when anyone wants to be paid more. Whether it be rights holders or employees who think its a human right to be given an iPhone, 5G and 1Gbps fiber internet in the middle of nowhere

Also, re: price increases -

Meh. It costs a little more. Everything costs a little more. If I watch two movies (or a handful of series programming) a month, it works out to a better deal than going out when we used to go out to a theater.

They can't "force" anyone to do anything if not enough viewers/subscribers are there seeking the content. Content providers, distributers, etc. can only raise prices if enough people are willing to pay. What determines "enough" depends on the types of margins, profit expectations, etc. a company has.

Netflix is not worth $240 a year. The shows lately have all felt uninspired and algorithmic and then if a show is good it’s canceled too soon. I stopped Netflix almost 2 years ago and really don’t feel like I’m missing anything that compelling.

I spend a lot of time watching TV too. I usually have 5+ active content subscriptions. Nearly every other streaming service is a much better value.
In the beginning, I had Netflix too but I didn't watch it so often to pay that money which I paid. Now, I've got IPTV which has all series and movies from Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO and others.. and I'm paying 25 pounds (I'm in the UK) for 3 months. Plus ofc I've got live tv. The deal is a deal... if Netflix will rise the prices, again and again, ppl will be looking for some alternatives.

We dropped DirecTV ages ago to save money. Our monthly bill with them was over $200 per month.
The hardware fees are what get you. My actual plan was only $65 per month.
Throw in 3 receiver, the Genie DVR, and Whole Home DVR service and it was just stupid high.

Now I have
Amazon Prime - $119 year ($10 month)
Apple TV+ - $5
Netflix - $15
Disney+, Hulu-Ad free, ESPN bundle - $79 per year ($7 per month)
HBO Max ad-free version - Free (included free with my AT&T plan).
Discovery Plus - $6.99
MotorTrend TV - $4.99

Puts me at $49 per month.
Streaming is still the cheaper route even with the minor price increases.

I’ve subbed to Netflix since the days of mail-in DVDs. Am I happy with the increase? Not really. My family and I have enjoyed a lot of Netflix originals (Red Notice!) and it’s a great place to watch Star Trek (for now). Compared to the other services I’m paying for, Netflix is definitely a lot more expensive. Any more and we’ll have to start treating it like I do HBO Go - only paying for it when I need/want it.

Like others have mentioned, nowhere near what I used to pay for Direct TV back in 2014.

How are you getting the Disney+, Hulu ad-free, ESPN+ bundle for just $7/month or $79/year? Disney+ alone is currently listed at $7.99/month or $79.99/year. The Disney+, Hulu ad-free, ESPN+ bundle is listed at $19.99/month.

In the end, these choices really come down to the type of content people want. You can get a DirecTV Stream Entertainment package with over 65 channels including local stations, 40,000 on demand titles, etc. for as little as $70/month or you can go hog wild with streaming services, premium channels, live TV, etc.

Between Apple TV, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video (all of which are cheaper and can often be obtained for free or discounted through other subscriptions), who needs Netflix? I cut the Netflix cord a long time ago and haven't regretted it.
Netflix is the best streaming provider out there period. I do hate the price hikes and will drop them if the price gets too crazy. Let's review the landscape:

1. Amazon Prime = Ultra low budget Sci-Fi channel. Absolute garbage.
2. Disney+ = Devoid of content unless you are big on Marvel and Star Wars.
3. Apple TV+ = Great content for Adults. Needs more content.
4. Netflix = King of streaming services with loads of content for all ages.
5. Hulu = Probably the second or third best option out there with Adult content.

Discuss.

Just remember, there is no benefit to be grandfathered in.
You want to hit Netflix in the pocket, just cancel for 2 months (or 1 at minimum).
What are you going to miss, another Red Notice movie?
That will reverse the price hike to hit them, you will realize that it is not necessary to always be subscribed.
I hate that they have price tiers, it should be one only.
Their real problem are people sharing accounts and Netflix wants to punish everyone else.
