Netflix CEO net worth 5.8 billion. Netflix made 7.8 billion with a profit of 1.8 billion. Yep, almost bankrupt they are. We need to step it up and pay even more.

That's because DVD 480p quality is actually good enough for most people and most screens. Really big screen TV's don't look great with 480p, but laptops, tablets and smartphones are absolutely fine with 480p. When people complain about not getting 4K on a device that is 16 inches or smaller (laptops, tablets and smartphones) then they are just upset because they know its available -- not because they are really going to notice much difference in video playback.
THIS. I'd also like to point out that there's a whole lot of us (see millions of) TV viewers who have vision disorders. This doesn't have to mean we're blind, we just might happen to find focusing on mid's or distance more difficult (even with glasses) which means the sharpness of 4K is lost on us. I myself can look at a 4K image and it looks no different than an upscaled DVD so paying extra wouldn't do me any good.

Also note that it doesn't ruin my enjoyment of stuff though because I've got a DVD collection so epic I could probably run a blockbuster out of my house and the quality of DVD video hasn't ruined my movie experience before.

At least it's not like Amazon Prime Video where you pay your Prime fee a year, get access to Prime Video, but every other program requires you to sign up to yet another streaming service. Really frustrating.

Yep, this is a total rip off, so you need to spend $20/month for 4k, only for fools. Never did get the fascination with Netflix shows, I subscribe for 1 to 2 months per year and watch all the shows I find interesting. The vast majority are uninteresting to me.
Question - do you lose your playlist, etc if you cancel and subscribe again?

This has nothing to do with Apple so on the outset I fail to see why this is even a “story” here.
Secondly it’s amusing to see so many who are willing to pay a premium for premium computer gear whining about a couple extra dollars a month. It’s Netflix, not an airport, nobody cares about your arrival or departure.

Netflix today updated the prices for its streaming plans, and all of its offerings are now more expensive. The Basic plan is now priced at $9.99 per month, the Standard plan is priced at $15.49 per month, and the Premium plan is priced at $19.99 per month.

The Basic plan is $1 more expensive, up from $8.99 per month. This plan allows users to watch on just one screen at a time, and it limits quality to 480p standard definition, with no HD streaming available. The Standard plan is $1.50 more expensive, up from $13.99 per month. It allows for 1080p HD streaming and allows users to watch on two screens at a time.

The highest-end Premium plan is now $2 more expensive per month, up from $17.99. It allows users to watch on four screens at the same time and it is the only plan that provides a 4K HDR streaming option.

Netflix says that the prices apply immediately to new members and will "gradually take effect" for all current members. Current members will get an email notification 30 days before their price changes and will have the option to change plans or cancel.

Netflix previously raised its prices in October 2020, so it's been a bit over a year since the last significant price jump. As of now, the Premium plan is $4 more expensive than it was in fall 2020.

The Basic Netflix plan is now twice as expensive as the $4.99 per month Apple TV+ subscription, and the Premium plan is four times as expensive. Netflix of course has a lot more to offer than Apple TV+ in terms of content, but it is also more expensive than most other streaming services on the market.

Hulu's basic plan starts at $6.99 per month, for example, and the no ads plan is $12.99 per month. HBO Max is $14.99 per month, Disney+ costs $7.99 per month, and Peacock Premium costs $4.99 per month.

Hulu, Apple TV+, and other services also do not charge for higher quality streaming capabilities, with even the basic plans offering 4K support.

Charging extra for 4K is such a scam when it’s literally the norm now like how you used to pay extra for HD content. No other major streaming service does that. No wonder piracy is going up again.

Archaic streaming model, charging more for the modern high definition that is 4K! All the other players don't do this.
Yeah. Streaming on Netflix is so 2019. People don’t want options, they want 4K!

Actually… the average consumer doesn’t know the difference between 480p and 4K. These are the same people that watch standard definition tv on a widescreen tv with the zoom turned on “to fill the entire screen”.

in 10 years from now
humans will be reading books, watching arial tv
and maybe looking at newspapers for safety and clarity measures

This why I canceled netflix months ago, no other service charges for 4k but them.
I pay 5-7 for disney, 3 for HBO max, and 5 for apple tv and music. Even those together is less than regular netflix.

Honestly looking at what I've watched since Christmas: Life of Pi, The Last Duel, Kingsman, Shang Chi, The Con — I'm not sure why I'm still subbed to Netflix as everything's on Disney+. Not the most popular opinion especially amongst the youngins in our household but to me Netflix nowadays seems to just churn out shows in the hopes that one will go 'viral'. Very quantity over quality imo.

What happened to competition keeping pricing affordable? Netflix just keeps getting worse compared to competitors yet want to raise their cost astronomically every year.

This kind of thing is why I never invest in streaming services in the first place.

They're cheap - wow - no-brainer, just get it. Service gets popular or even a household name, changes price, and now, 10 years on, they've killed off cable TV and replaced it with something just as expensive.

Seems to happen with all these. Apple TV is now 5 bucks, great - if they succeed attracting a lot of viewers, let's say they have crazy success and replace Netflix! then guess what the next step is, that's right it's gonna be $20.

Disgusting bait and switch, they do it over many years and think nobody will notice. It's not even by ill intent, it's a force function of the business model. You're on bottom - make it cheap or free, until you get to the top, then extract and milk for all its got.

So I stick with the pirate bay. Has been reliable. No nonsense. Offline viewing. Not as convenient, but hey. I wish there was a way to directly drop cash to content creators without the leechy intermediaries. Especially streaming services, they are known to pay pennies to the content creators.

In reality what we want is for content creators to create content, and for us to pay for it.

The middle men should be interchangeable, not monopolistic silos who will abuse their power the very second they are able to do so.

This whole viewing over the internet **** has turned full circle.

No one wanted to spend $100 a month on their cable subscription. Now you spend $100 a month on your freaking internet based exactly same type of subscriptions. Netflix, HBO Max, Disney, Apple+ and and and adds up and keeps getting only more expensive.
