Talk about misreading the consumer, when people see ads they also expect things to be free or severely cheaper. That’s what ads means. I don’t see this going well for Netflix.
There are lots of services that use ads from free with ads to several dollars USD sVOD subscriptions. Many that watch OTA and Cable/Satellite subscriptions are wholly subjected to ads normally.

720P in 2022. Haha. What a clown show of a company. I have Netflix for one reason and one reason only... It's free with T-Mobile.
You kinda suggesting that soon Netflix will end those benefits you know. These services aren't dumb when they reach a certain level of revenue stream they can easily afford to get rid of free trials, phone linked video deals, and so on.

They know there are lots of free services with ads that make a lot of money, so they really don't need the bells and whistles.

Not worth it. If they are going to show ads, then the service should be FREE (they are making money off the advertisement). If I am going to watch TV (which is rare), I'll just use the Plex.TV service (https://www.plex.tv/) which offers free TV shows and movies. Besides, Netflix doesn't have anything to offer that sparks my interest.

Doesn't matter if it's HBO, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, and many other paid sVoD services, are not going to allow a non-subscriber to watch their premium original content free with ads.

They are making money on advertising which is a reason why they are discounting the price of the plan. It doesn't mean they should discount it the full $9.99/month. A pay/ad hybrid mode has been the norm for ages whether it be newspapers, magazines or cable/satellite television.

Other streaming services charge for (or will be) ad-supported plans including Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, Paramount+, etc. By offering an ad-supported plan, Netflix is doing what other streaming services have done and what Apple may be looking to do with TV+ next year.

Options are good, I find it weird people are complaining about this. Well I guess I should expect it
Well you are on Macrumors. It’s like a town centre for whiners.

If they get subscribers, it works. And I have no doubt, they’ll get subscribers. A tonne of people will now have access to something they didn’t before.

With lots of ads should be $free
Some ads $6.99
No ads starting at $9.99.

It’s just a matter of choice. The choice between free to paid options is all it takes. Some people live ads some hate them. But there should be a choice from no fee to ad free.

😂 Who is on the fence over $3 per month? Exactly who would find it valuable to advertise to that demographic? Payday loan sharks? Maybe you'd get it for your kids, but Netflix isn't a kids channel.
