Ironically this could be great for me, we currently pay for Netflix as do my parents in their house, sharing a password had never occurred to us but this move will now save us money, as my parents will cancel their membership and join ours so instead of paying 2x £10.99 a month (£21.98) it’ll now be £15.98 (£10.99 + £4.99) between us

TIL that stealing is when you pay for something and let family members use it. 🤣
Have you tried this argument with movie tickets or museum memberships? Cell phone plans? Was it legal to split your neighbors cable back when cable was a thing?

I simply do not see what's wrong with Netflix, HBO, etc., trying to keep people from stealing their service. If your friend or family member gives you their Logon info, YOU are stealing.
How is it stealing? As I said in a different post if it was theft/unlawful Netflix would have already put a stop to it and maybe partnered with the ISP similarly to people who pirate. I will say that it is easier to target a person pirating as opposed to sharing an account. Show me proof in the past (because I know that the Netflix TOS has changed due to upcoming changes) that Netflix had the same rules, because as also stated multiple times on this thread password sharing was encouraged by Netflix.

By saying someone is stealing that is saying that they are subject to the law so fines and possible jail time.

As proof, your Honor, that I didn't steal that second shirt I have here last years "buy one get one free" advertisement where customers were encouraged to take two.

The difference with movie tickets and museum memberships is the rules are clearly stated like whenever I bought a movie ticket online it clearly stated something along the lines of one person per ticket and you select how many seniors/adult/child tickets. Museums will often have varying membership plans that sometimes does include one guest per visit.

Cellphone plans? really you most certainly can share lol swap sim cards! I used to all the time when I had an android and iPhone and when I wanted to use the other just pop the sim card in the other device. your cell phone plan one makes no sense because that is a pay per device model you pay for cellular service one one device, but guess what Netflix plans just said how ever many screens simultaneously so therefore the plan was say 4 screens+4k and blah blah.

When I don't, I don't claim I shouldn't be fined because I was in a hurry to see my kid in college...
And never drank alcohol till 21...Are you like Mr 100% perfect?
When I don't, I don't claim I shouldn't be fined because I was in a hurry to see my kid at college...
You do in my state for medical emergencies....and again how is this to do with a minor sharing a password??????

So... in one post you talk about the legality of things, but in another you talk about when you don't drive the speed limit, which is something you are legally required to follow, but sure try to talk down to others for sharing a password.

Is a movie ticket good for multiple users like how a Netflix Standard (up to 2 streams) or Premium (up to 4 streams) plan is? No.

Museum membership? Hmm... like one to The Met that allows for 2 members and 2 or 4 guests?

- Free Admission for 2 Member cardholders and 2 guests every visit (and children under 18)
- Free Admission for 2 Member cardholders and 4 guests every visit (and children under 18)

Guess what? Those guests don't have to reside at the same address as the primary cardholder.

Cell phone plans? Oh, you mean like the family cell phone plans and where members on the family plan don't all have to live at the same address? Those plans?

🤣

Didn't this conversation come up because Netflix clearly stated their rules?

Sending a SIM card back and forth to your kid in college or your granny when they want to make a call seems a rather laborious way to avoid a second plan...

And now it's 4 screens in the same household.

#1 No one in Florida drives the speed limit. #2 I was replying to your comment cause it made no sense...Sarcasm? Also, I have used Netflix when it was an alternative to DIVX in 1996 and then took over Blockbuster....They make up things as they go since the 90s and you know what....I do what I want, and they can with there's...not hard to set up proxies.

Horrible attempt at 1. not actual proof of TOS and 2. even getting your point across because "buy one get one free" would have an expiration period on it, and if it doesn't that is something you can truly fight. Why do you think that every sale/buy one get one/etc has end dates...so that your example doesn't happen...

If a Netflix stream is good for 4 users, what's your problem with it?

Don't you have to arrive with your guest? I think Netflix will let your kid watch if they come to your house. Many memberships I've had ask for ID when I present my member card.

Waiting for the email. Will immediately start to pirate again. The only reason people pay is due to it being convenient and cheap. Once that is taken away and the nickel and diming begins, the days piracy will rise again.

I can't believe the mindset of you guys that think "sharing" your logon docs is ok. It is stealing, plain and simple, and you have been getting away with it to the point you expect it.

Look through the earlier pages of the thread, specifically the user highlighting the TOS.

Whoah. Ok, I've missed something really important in this conversation... Was there a one time purchase for life option for Netflix that I missed?

And I think EU will probably put an end to this practice on Netflix sooner or later with new consumer protection law allowing account sharing as “fair use”
They most definitely won’t. There’s zero reasons for them to get involved because Netflix is not a monopoly, they’re not charging third party developers or limiting their access to a market place. Or polluting the planet more than they have too with this action.

The elimination of password-sharing is essentially a price hike for those who share their password...and a significant one.

For others, there is a misplaced sense of entitlement in that they believe that Netflix should perpetually allow sharing passwords.

They changed the terms and conditions. As Netflix customers we either accept the change or cancel our subscriptions.

I find it amusing that many of the people who complain about the change are the same ones who complain about Netflix having nothing worth watching and lack the courage of their conviction to simply cancel. Netflix knows this and that is why in spite of all the doomsayers forecasting the demise of Netflix, they're still around. They will eventually be correct one day... but that day isn't today.
