WOW!!!!

AT...... L A S T !!!!!!

I have been wanting them to play nice for YEARS.

Netflix's refusal to integrate has always spoiled what is otherwise a fantastic experience in the Apple TV app - but right now im not believing it until I see it for myself.

But, I would be SO happy if this were happening.

(anyone in the UK seen this yet??)
Good news at last. Been waiting for this 😊

It's interesting to me when framed this way...

But when Apple does things for their own interests, that potentially degrade a consumer experience, everyone here celebrates it and defends Apple for some reason?

> Historically, Netflix has refused integration with Apple's TV app ecosystem.

It’s my understanding from folks within Netflix that they weren’t refusing as such, they just didn’t think it was worth the effort.

Didn't think it was worth the effort?!

I mean, if that's the case they obviously don't have many staff who frequent Apple forums such as MacRumors… There's definitely been repeated comment about wanting full Netflix integration with the tv app (there are plenty of examples in this thread alone), and you can multiply those comments by a factor to get an idea of how many of the general population find this to be an annoyance…

This could actually make me use Netflix more. I tend to sort of forget about it because nothing from it shows up in Up Next at the top of my Apple TV screen.
THIS.

100%

It's utterly baffled me why Netflix has stayed away for so long. I believe they originally sited concerns that people wouldnt go into the Netflix app for discovery...

But having it integrate does nothing but BOOST discoverability of their content and drive traffic TO their app.

Well, but how many AppleTV app users are there really? 25M? 30M? And in the same MR forums you refer to, it’s easy enough to find lots of Netflix hate, so we can extrapolate that as well and just as easily arrive at the conclusion that it’s not a worthwhile endeavor.

Does this matter to any of us now? I thought everyone quit Netflix (for about the ninth time) after the last price hike. And you know we'll all be ranting & raving and passionately quitting (again) after price hike #10 too. ;)
I quit Netflix over 10 years ago and never looked back, the only way I would reconsider is if they made a native app for the Apple Vision Pro and integrated Apple share Play.

It's a good thing. I lost my watch history when I cancelled Netflix. If they had integration with an ATV, I would know what shows I watched on Netflix and which season I left off on.
I don’t know if this is true. Doesn’t the TV just ask each integrated service for a list of shows to display? Not sure if it stores anything.

I assumed they've held back that info because it sends viewing data to Apple, who runs a rival streaming service.

it will probably let you browse Netflix shows easier within the TV (app) hub. you might get TV notifications when new episodes launch/new season begins. It will probably take you to the Netflix app to watch, like most other streaming platforms (unless you subscribe to a "channel" via TV app). I do like going to one place to browse all the shows/movies to watch instead of inside each app.
I find I watch more content from the video apps that directly integrate with the tv app. The up next que on the home screen alone pushes me to stay up to date with stuff

Interesting that Netflix is softening its stance.

Makes sense. When you turn on your ATV you get Apple's display of watched shows and suggestions; if a service is not on that users ar less likely to see its offerings. If that happens, newer shows may get less viewership as people may not know about them, so putting them front and center is important. Anecdotally, I find I watch more stuff on the ATV home page than search for other new stuff.

That's such an odd comment.

Funny, I reported something similar to macrumors months ago… (16th of December 2024) - in Germany. Maybe they tried something here?

Glad to see it. Hope it comes to Canada sooner than later. It'll probably make me watch more Netflix since I use the Apple TV app quite a bit more than the Netflix one.

Interesting step to only share Netflix originals. I wonder if it's because of licensing agreements with the other content owners or if there's a reason Netflix is ok letting Apple know which originals are being watched but not the rest.

My guess, Netflix has more to gain by increasing the visibility of their originals than they do other people's content (which could come with additional licensing costs).
