Honestly, it's probably because of TikTok. TikTok is a social entertainment app. It's addicting, informative, educational, funny, and interesting. The new way forward is 3-10 minute, vertical video, mini series shows. JUST SAYIN

I'm not saying you're wrong -- I have no idea. What I do know is TikTok is the GED equivalent of entertainment. And that may be an understatement.

We canceled about a year or more ago after subscribing for many years. I know a LOT of people who have canceled in the past 6-12 months and many more who are planning on it. In my opinion -- and what many people have told me -- the service is just not interesting. It seems like people are choosing to sub mostly to a combo of Disney+ and Hulu, and some ATV+. And almost all those same people already watch Prime Video since it's incl. w/ their Prime sub.

IMO, Netflix truly sucks.
Everything good to watch on Prime Video isn't free. Amazon threw in all the garbage for free (with an occasional decent show to placate their subscribers of Prime).

It’s the price hiking, I was about to cancel last time but I kept it in the end for a couple of shows. But definitely still considering to cancel.

Content comes and goes for sure, but there's frequently decent content on Prime ... in my opinion. But yes -- sometimes I go to continue watching something or watch something I saw was on Prime ... and it's no longer included. But for an included perk, I think it's good. I wouldn't pay for it, and I won't ever pay for the full service.

To me Netflix is worth about $1.50 per month, so I subscribe one month out of the year and only watch the best stuff.

Man, I give you that Netflix has A LOT of filler shows, but can you honestly compare Netflix's Top 10 to Apple's Top 10? No way! I still find more entertaining and interesting content on Netflix than I do on Apple, Ted Lasso and The Morning Show along just does not cut it.
Ted Lasso
The Morning Show
For All Mankind
Dickinson
Mythic Quest
Central Park
Tehran
Schmigadoon!
Foundation
Acapulco
Swagger
The After Party
Severance
Slow Horses

All great shows in the past few years of TV+ existence. What has Netflix put out in the same timeframe that was worth the $12-$20 a month fee compared to the extreme value of TV+ measly $5 a month.

Most of Netflix’s great content is so old now or it’s is one or two shows that take forever to get a new season out or about to end/get canceled.

Yeah I’d totally go with the price hikes are killing their subscriber base shot discovery and paramount and HBO offer better stuff for cheaper now days.

Are people reading the same article as me? It explicitly said Netflix accurately predicted the number of customers they would lose due to the recent price changes. Therefore the unexpected losses had to come from a different reason—not the price changes.

If piracy ever becomes THE solution for the masses, that will kill the whole machine. It will certainly stick it to the "greedy and stupid" by destroying the whole industry. Thereafter, all original content would have YouTube video-type budgets and quality and the pirate masses will need to be happy with what was produced up to the point of the masses rebellion of 202X.

Analogous example: we're not wanting to pay Apple's "greedy" margin for the next iDevices or Macs. So let's just all steal them. That will show 'em... put them right in their place. And somehow Apple will be able to keep making new models year after year for no income that we can all steal too.

The piracy option only "works" while the numbers of pirates are small. If that becomes the masses "I'll show 'em" option, that's the end of new professionally-produced movies & TV content and the best new video will be YouTube quality made mostly by volunteers working for nothing-to-near-nothing in all of the professional roles of production.

I doubt piracy would ever become that widespread. There are too many older or not at all familiar with or want to spend the time getting it to work right. While it's easier than it ever has, it still requires some tech know-how.

Sharing is the excuse.

Reality is competition is catching up and in Disney’s case, surpassed them.

Add in Apple TV+, Peacock, Amazon Prime, and whatever other network wants their content back, Netflix is forced to do more original content or pay for it.

And lately it has not delivered.

They had 8-10 years of no competition or name recognition (HULU). They are getting competition from Verizon which owns paramount/ViaComCBS thats worth 200 billion, Disney that’s work like 100 billion, HBO MAX owned by AT&T worth 200 billion, Comcast that owns universal, DreamWorks, Peacock, NBC, NBC sports worth 200 billion, Amazon Prime Video thats worth 2.3 TRILLION, and Apple thats worth 3 TRILLION. They’re getting competition from the wealthiest companies in the world. But its not because of the wealth of its competitors. its because Netflix isnt putting out good originals, and they value quantity over quality. Netflix keeps putting out bad content and upping the price while releasing too much content. They also said they’ll lose 2 million more subs in the next 2 months ?

The only reason I have Netflix is that I have a TM wireless account that offers for free. And Prime Video because of Prime. If not, I would never subscribe to both services. Very weak overall.

I wonder what the number of people would be that subscribe only to the Video part of Prime? Amazon's content is even worse than Netflix and I would never dream of subbing just to the video portion. I barely use it currently.

At least make the $9.99 single screen tier 1080p! Who wants 480p crap for $10/mo? I think many would sign up for that and no password sharing with the single screen plan!
To be fair, Netflix upgraded $9.99 Basic tier to 720p. Still, that's awfully stingy in the days where most streaming services that offer 4K offer 4K as a complementary feature (e.g., Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max (ad-free tier), Hulu, Paramount+ (ad-free tier)).

Dear Netflix,

Some advice. Try to renew your licensing deals with major studios for their content as well. You keep losing stuff I used to watch on your service, now it’s at Paramount+ or Hulu. Also, try not to cancel a show every time the wind changes direction. Content that retains subscribers requires commitment. You’ve cancelled even top performing shows after a single season for absolutely no good reason. I’m 50 and I have disposable income and an attention span that lasts longer than 10 seconds. Millennials don’t have either. I know you want to be hip and all, but most of your stuff is either crass and shocking to shock or it’s disjointed and dystopian. Take the time to build something worthwhile instead of flash in the pan and on to the next. It’s not working for you.

People have been sharing passwords since 2008 when it first came out. This is BS.

The reason is the cost is too much and the quality is too low. $20/mo is way too much for 4K in 2022, which should be standard. Other streaming services don't break things out separately for 4K. They pump out high volume low quality shows that nobody wants to watch anymore. For the price of Netflix 4K you can get Disney+, Apple TV+, and Hulu combined. The value just isn't there.
