Everyone cheered on the writers and actors attempt to get more money. Here are the results!
Don't blame the workers for fighting for fair compensation. Blame the poor business practices of Netflix. If a company can't afford to pay its workers a fair wage while offering a good product or service at a reasonable price, it doesn't deserve to exist. It's not the workers fault. It's not the workers responsibility to keep the company finically viable out of their own pocket.

Do what I do. Activate the service twice a year for a month. Watch everything you want during those two months.

Between kids watching normal TV (yes, we do have tens of free and good channels in Germany), me watching football at the weekend, the wife and I spend less time with the TV anyway. We are even struggling to keep up with AppleTV+ content. I don’t have any conversations with anyone about great movies/TV shows elsewhere. I don’t need that, because it wouldn’t add any value by knowing. And once I don’t know about it, I could care less what Netflix does. I hate having too much content anyway.

I am in two minds about this, because 'for me' Netflix has some great content, I use it a fair bit. For me I think Netflix, Prime and You Tube are my go to apps. I have a couple of others too but not overly fussed if I didn't have them including Disney Plus. Then you have the free services like FreeVee and Pluto which are also very good.
I don't go out don't drink so it's where my leisure money goes.

Love the complaints here. “Netflix price increase is bad, but paying the Apple tax on everything Apple is okay.”

Very few people, including here, think the 30% (or 15%) "Apple Tax" is okay.

I only have Netflix because it comes with my T-Mobile plan, but I haven't watched it since Stranger things season 4, which was over a year ago I think? I don't watch much movies/tv/streaming.

UPS drivers make up to $170K.

And at $170k/yr, UPS drivers still cannot deliver iPhone's correctly to people their houses.

They won’t be making that much. That figure is misleading as a notable portion of it is max benefits (healthcare, sick leave, life insurance, tuition assistance, pension and 401K contributions, etc.). The increase is also not right away, it's over a five year period. I believe by the end of the five year contract; the average top rate pay for UPS drivers will be $49/hour.

I'm just glad I still get over 110 HD channels, 3 streams, on demand, and DVR for $40 a month with what started as DirecTV Now back in 2016. I'm locked in at this price for life since I was an early adopter. The same plan today costs $124.99 a month. Between this and our Plex servers, I'm good.

That’s not objectively true and it’s an apples to oranges comparison. Netflix is a discretionary service one elects to pay for. The commission on digital goods for the App Store is an opt-in contract between the developer and apple.

If your takeaway is very few people are okay with the “apple tax”, I think we have different interpretations of posts.

Raise pricing for lost subscribers so it doesn’t hurt them much overall.
rise and fall of Netflix.
What lost subscribers are you referring to? Total Netflix subscribers have been increasing every year.

TotalNetflixSubs.png

Sure, they lost some subscribers in the 1st half of 2022 (lost 200 million in Q1 2022 and 1 million in Q2 2022), but overall, they grew subscribers for the 2022 year. And ever since Q2 2022 they've been back to subscriber growth mode.

QuarterlySubs.png

They gained 8.8 million subscriber during the reported (3rd) quarter and are expecting to gain another 8.8 million subscribers (give or take a few million) for their 4th quarter of 2023.

Their ability to increase subscriber numbers while raising prices shows they have pricing power.

Everyone does realize that they don’t HAVE to subscribe to the service if they don’t want to right?? What’s with all the complaining lol

And people will complain…. And still pay for it. These companies know we can’t live without our shows so they know they can get away with it. If we all unsubscribed, they’d roll back their prices in a day. We as a people, have more power then these greedy companies. We just never come together to use that power unfortunately
People used to pay 170 a month for cable so they know they have room to raise prices.
