it works perfectly on my new macbook. the quality is great too on a 13 inch screen. i was so sick of swithcing over to my windows partition (and then having to launch ie7) to watch instantly.

Working well so far on my year-old MBP. For some reason it detected "good" quality even though I have a 3 Mbps connection and that should be "best" according to their site.

I could see this being added to Apple TV, but I wouldn't count on it. This is just a beta version, and it's also a Microsoft product (eek). But Microsoft, Apple and Netflix don't hate money, and Microsoft and Apple have a history of working together.

I also don't know that I see this as straight-up competition to the Apple TV downloads. A little bit of it is, but most of the iTunes rentals are for very new movies. Most streaming stuff is "older" except for TV.

As far as HD streaming, don't count on it. The Internet is a series of tubes, not magic. It would take much faster Net connections than most of us have to literally stream it.

I'm bummed they use Microsoft Silverlight.

Me too, but what are you gonna do? I just feel lucky that I started my Netflix trial like two days ago. It looks like they have a pretty good listing of TV shows, new and old, so they'd better be ready to stream like nuts!

It loads fast and no errors, however the few videos I tried to watch were like watching a Godzilla movie in that the video and audio were out of sync. I have the 15mbps package from Brighthouse.

Anyone else having this O/S issue?

Silverlight doesn't show up on Safari

Using Firefox 3.01. I called Netflix - video was quite choppy. Told me the fix was Cntl + Shift + Option + S (have to wait 2 seconds or so) and you get a menu to change from 500 to 1500. (Make sure you click inside the movie first). However, it had already bumped up to 1500 automatically. It was much better, but still more than occasionally choppy.

While on the phone I offered to try Safari - the tech said that they tested mostly on Safari. Plugin was not detected so would not play at all.

They're going to get back to me. This will be pretty cool if they get it to play more smoothly.

I haven't noticed any lag between audio/visual.

Cntl + Shift + Option + S

Nice to know this. Works in Safari too.

The choppiness could just be for that movie/show. What is it exactly? I have watched Helvetica, Ghostbusters I & II with very little choppiness (only when loading other pages).

Could just be a server/streaming problem for the more popular content.

I'm watching Penn and Teller- Bullsh*t at the moment.

Everything seems to be running clear and I am using firefox 3. I am pretty happy with the load time and the quality is decent.

While I am not a big fan of MS, Silverlight for mac seems pretty decent. Performance is a lot better then Flash video on a mac, and it does not lag when using the system for other things while watching a video on a second monitor.

What is the quality like on large screens (say a 50")? Are we talking regualr cable or is it closer to DVD?

I just picked "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and it too is choppy. Quite annoying when they use the handheld all over the place.

I can only vouch for my 20" monitor, but it seems to be almost the quality of SD iTunes downloads. The videos I encode, which are at a slightly lower bitrate, look DVD-quality on a 60-inch DLP. So I would assume these look pretty good. They're easily better than the streams from NBC, ABC, etc.

Ummm I signed up for a free trial.. the 8.99 one and I go to the instant view thing and I get a page that says it's not supported for Macintosh.

What's going on?

Edit: The link to the Silverlight Opt In doesn't work right on Macrumors.. took me to the wrong page.. I found a proper link from another website which took me to the Opt in page. And i'm good now.

In the community spirit of things, I think it's great that you've shared this link with us all just in-case there's anyone else suffering the same issues...!!

how much bandwitdh does this thing uses for 1 hour of video ?

My ISP has a 8bmit connection, but also a 20gig cap per month, pretty easy to bust it with that kind of speed

I tried watching a movie last night. I have an admittedly slow internet connection, but the movie quality was terrible. It wasn't overly choppy (watchable), but the quality was so bad that I couldn't tell what was going on in some scenes. Turned it off. Will try again soon. :(

works

silverlight thing doesn't matter to me. the intel only is a bummer. Have a work intel MBP so at least I can take advantage of it.

and netflix is coming to xbox360 on the 19th which is nice.

and the roku which isn't pretty, but is reasonably IMHO priced at 99 bucks let's you watch right on your TV.

Is this available in the UK?
Why ask questions like this is Google broken or something? Google Netflix and you'll see its a US only mail based DVD rental service, that also does online streaming. To use this service you have to have a US address, as their main service involves sending DVDs in the mail.

Vpc6+xp?

I've used Netflix on G4, running VPC6+XP for a couple years now

Cool, Now want to tell them where to buy a software application that is no longer produced?

so +1 on the native PPC not avail. Why should we spend $$ and just toss out a perfectly good working computer just because they are to incompetent to make the app multi processor? It would sure get the tree huggers panties in a bunch if I was being that wasteful. Economically, is makes no sense either.

Time to upgrade!
