The way they are going to do that is to make sure they don't have any content worth anyone sharing a password to see.

It's not simple if members of the family move. Netflix says absolutely nothing about a family who has had an account for decades but decide to move, or send their kids to college or heck even the military. Your post pretty much tells me you live alone and families should never move if they want to keep their accounts.

Well, you would be wrong, people who lived under my roof shared my account. When those people moved away and their legal address changed they got their own accounts, which is as it should be. Pretty simple concept.

Netflix pays for mine and I still want to cancel after this BS. Greedy pricks.
They will all start doing this. Just watch Disney. It's like how one after another major sVod services (Netflix, Disney, HBO Max) abandoned free trials. Even the single user subscription can readily stop a second sVoD usage occurring at the same time. You already have too many devices authorized with Apple iTunes movies services as another example.

I have two places, each in a different state. Same person, two households. Do I then have to pay extra?🤣

Good, pay their price for their service or unsubscribe but sharing with those outside your household is against the TOS and analogous to theft.

Simple as that.
Kids in college? You travel a lot and like to watch Netflix when you're in a hotel? How will they know? Go to a friends house and want to watch something? How does that work?

In general, the devil will be in the details on this one. I think this is going to be super hard to police effectively.

My guess is that subscribers in a similar situation to you are expected to be written off. Netflix will have this exodus the ship will tilt and then be righted.
Yep. Surely they’ve planned for that and aren’t assuming we all desperately need Netflix to survive.

And I’m under no illusions that I’m hurting Netflix, nor is it my goal to do so. I just voted with my dollar after determining the value was no longer there. With this impending move the value just falls even more. I just marvel at the absurdity of it all.

The amount of people bitching about Netflix cracking down on theft is pretty hilarious. You got free Netflix for a decade, and now you want to cry about ripping them off?

Sorry?
its not actually free though it was paid for stop throwing theft around you need you look up that definition because its not what you think it is

Netflix has just become a trash-bin of sad titles, poor content, B content, and just a general reduction in content quality. They've become a company that pushes a message more than pushing good, quality content to watch. I won't be sad if they go down in flames. Their pricing is outrageous for the crap they are putting out these days, also.

What if it’s temporary? My roommate, who’s lived with me for 10 years, is spending 2 months with her mother. She still pays rent at her legal address, with me, but Netflix is probably going to be annoyed at seeing a different zip code login for 2 months.
Similar with my gf’s sister. She’s spending a month at a time at the family’s 2nd home in Palm Desert, then moving back home.
How do you deal with people who don’t live 100% of their time in a single home? *shh* not well.

Exactly. They have no way of knowing someone is “sharing” or traveling.
This policy is going to hurt Netflix more than the current exodus.

I believe the jist of their TOS is "members of the account owners household" and define their legal address as being the same as the account holder. If one would ask your roommate what her address was my guess is she would say yours, problem solved. Same with your GFs sister, if her primary residence is the same as the account owner then no problem.

A lot of people are being overly pedantic, IMHO Netflix is not going after adults who travel for work/pleasure or kids in college. They are going after people who share their accounts with people who do not claim the account owners address as their primary. I don't care how close one is with their cousin who lives 1000 miles away in their own home, one cannot claim they are living in your household.

This is a really simple concept.

I wonder if they are going to implement minimum duration accounts... 3 months minimum and so on to counteract those of us who will account swap between different VOD services if we have to have pay more just to use our account at a second location.
I wonder what’s been keeping them from doing this. Streaming services like Disney+ and TV+ let you sub for one year at a time at about 10 months’ worth of payments. It would help lock in users for a longer period of time and prevent switchers.

I suspect Netflix realises this might end up actually costing them money. Because while “switchers” may pay more, faithful subscribers who continue to pay month after month may end up paying less.

Sounds like Netflix basically wants their cake and to eat it too.

My kids use my Netflix account. Some days they stay with me and some days they stay with their Mom. How is this going to work? I believe it's the same as me watching Netflix on my phone or iPad while I'm traveling. Movie devices are just that... mobile.

As someone who travels quite frequently for work, I want to know how 1) the hotels that offer Netflix will work (I assume it doesn’t count), 2) staying at an AirBNB and using their smart TV to login to Netflix will work, and 3) how using my phone or tablet while connected to a network in another state will work?

If a hotel offers it, its ether a broader account benefit offered to guest free, or added to room cost.

If you use your account to log into a rental/AirBNB that would be no different than using your phone/table/laptop and logging in.
If your are traveling within the USA that is no different than above.

There is nothing about being mobile or traveling, staying at a temporary lodgings that falls under shared passcodes. If your got a email about it, you could reply that you are legal subscriber on travel.

Thank you Netflix, this could be just what I need to convince my wife to cancel you. I personally find little value in Netflix with so much better streaming services available.
